[Reconstruction of the orbit floor using a resorbable polydioxanone (PDS degree) cup. Analysis of a series of 71 cases].

A 71 patients series is presented, concerning primary orbital floor reconstruction by a polydioxanone cup (PDS degree) which has been used for five years. The technical data and surgical procedure are exposed. No infection either intolerance manifestation has been observed until the materiel was resorbed. Two early displacements of the implant are reported, due to a technical fault during the insertion of the cup. Only one late enophtalmy was observed for a patient with a large orbital floor defect. The loss a the rigidity of the polydioxanone seems to be relatively fast (probably 2-3 months)

Mechanical properties of a biodegradable self-expandable polydioxanone monofilament stent: In vitro force relaxation and its clinical relevance.

Biodegradable stents are promising treatments for many diseases, e.g., coronary artery disease, urethral diseases, tracheal diseases, and esophageal strictures. The mechanical properties of biodegradable stent materials play a key role in the safety and efficacy of treatment. In particular, insufficient creep resistance of the stent material could result in premature stent collapse or narrowing. Commercially available biodegradable self-expandable SX-ELLA stents made of polydioxanone monofilament were tested. A new, simple, and affordable method to measure the shear modulus of tiny viscoelasti

Surface Area to Volume Ratio of Electrospun Polydioxanone Templates Regulates the Adsorption of Soluble Proteins from Human Serum.

Neutrophils, the first cells that interact with surface-adsorbed proteins on biomaterials, have been increasingly recognized as critical maestros in the foreign body response for guided tissue regeneration. Recent research has shown that small diameter (SD) fibers of electrospun tissue regeneration templates, which have a high surface area to volume ratio (SAVR), enhance the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) compared to large diameter (LD) fibers, resulting in impaired tissue regeneration. In this study, we evaluated the adsorption of eight human serum proteins on the surface of

[Ligament repair with PDS (polydioxanone) in chronic insufficiency of the fibular ligament of the upper ankle joint: experimental and clinical experiences].

From September 1988 till February 1989, 14 patients with chronic ligamentous rupture of the ankle had been operated on using PDS-plasty. Of 12 patients checked in follow-up examination (mean postoperative period 45 weeks), only two showed good or very good results. Most patients had the same signs of chronic instability as preoperatively. Two patients had been reoperated on. Intraoperatively we did not find a biological substitute along the PDS guide line. In an experiment on the rat we examined histological changes and tensile strength at appointed times. Histological data showed no biologica

A Simple Solution for Infractured Lateral Nasal Osteotomy Lines During Revision or Primary Rhinoplasty: Osseos Stabilization With Polydioxanone Sutures.

In addition to precautions taken with perioperative surgical techniques, nasal packing and external nasal splinting are frequently employed to ensure the stability of the nasal bones following osteotomies performed during rhinoplasty. However, despite these precautions, nasal bone fragments, generally caused by trauma or healing problems, can approach the midline, progress in a posterior direction and heal with malunion in an infractured manner. Since cavities on the infractured side can result in asymmetries and/or airway narrowing, revision osteotomy is required to correct these problems. Su

Combining polydioxanone-based scaffold and allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells enhances articular cartilage repair - a pre-clinical study.

INTRODUCTION: Articular cartilage exhibits limited intrinsic regenerative capacity, making its repair a persistent clinical challenge. Polydioxanone (PDO) scaffolds offer biocompatibility, tunable degradation, and structural support, whereas adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) possess chondrogenic, immunomodulatory, and regenerative potential. This study evaluated the biocompatibility of the PDO scaffold (Plenum Tissue Ortho) and investigated its effectiveness in enhancing articular cartilage repair when combined with microfracture (MF) or allogeneic ovine adipose-derived mesenchy

[Single-layer closure of a subcostal incision using a monofilament absorbable suture material--comparison of polydioxanone (PDS) and polyglyconate (Maxon)].

In 114 and 108 patients who were operated upon the biliary tract with a subcostal incision and closed in one layer with Polydioyanone (PDS) and Polyglyconate (Maxon), the authors analysed the frequency of the complications in the healing of the operative wound. A superficial infection in the wound appeared in 1% and 0.9% of the patients in the PDS and Maxon group, while a deep infection of the wound appeared in 0.8% and 0% (P less than 0.05). In "contaminated" wound patients, the frequency of the deep infection of the wound was not significantly larger than the "clean" operations (P less than

The Local Damage and Systemic Inflammation Induced by a Biodegradable Polydioxanone Stent Implanted in the Rabbit Trachea Decreases Markedly with Stent Degradation.

Biodegradable tracheal stents have been developed to overcome the limitations of metallic and removable stents in benign airway disease. This study evaluated the local and systemic inflammatory response induced by a biodegradable polydioxanone tracheal stent in a rabbit model. Twenty-one rabbits were assigned to three follow-up groups (30, 60, and 90 days). In each group, six animals received a tracheal stent, and one served as a sham control. Clinical status and respiratory symptoms were monitored, and serial peripheral blood interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels were measured. At the end of follow-up,
