BACKGROUND: Contact sensitization in children is more common than previously thought, but few studies have been performed on a large population assessed by the same team. The objective was to evaluate contact sensitization in children with suspected contact dermatitis, the relationship with atopic dermatitis (AD), and the most common allergens.
METHODS: The same team patch tested 2,614 children younger than 11 years old with a standard series of 30 allergens.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of strip patch tests and patch tests in detecting sensitizations in patients with suspected allergic contact dermatitis by using patient history as the reference standard.
PATIENTS/METHODS: In a multicentre, prospective, investigator-blinded study 790 patients were enrolled. The defined reference standard was established prior to patch testing.

Allergic contact dermatitis is acute or chronic inflammatory skin disease of allergic etiology, which develops as a result of delayed type of hypersensitivity, i.e. type IV reaction according to the Gell and Coombs classification. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of Cr(III) (chromium chloride) and Cr(VI) (potassium dichromate) on RNA and DNA-chromium adducts formation in isolated nucleic acids and isolated pig lymphocytes. The metal alloys which were investigated histopathologically in the first part of this study, were examined with respect to their allergic potentials using the patch test. In this work, we developed and validated a practical phase-transfer headspace GC method that leverages automated headspace sampling for high-throughput determination of total oxidizable substances in porous media (i.e., soil). Copper(II) chromate and dichromate complexes with 2,2'-bipyridyl and 1,10-phenathroline were tested for their mutagenic activity in the standard Ames test. All of six tested complexes exhibited markedly lower mutagenic activity than the reference compounds--potassium dichromate and sodium chromate. The blockage of Cr(VI) reduction capability in the presence of the complex Cu2+ ion and the competition between copper and chromium ions in the interaction with cellular components are discussed in the light of the results of our previous chemical study.

Chromium permeation studies were performed on full thickness human skin in diffusion cells. All samples were analysed for the total chromium content by graphite furnace Zeeman-corrected atomic absorption spectrometry. This study evaluated the toxicity of hexavalent and trivalent compounds of chromium to the pacu, Piaractus mesopotamicus, in acute exposures of 96 h through mortality and histopathological responses.
