Ectopic pregnancy after sterilization.

In a retrospective survey of 24 cases of ectopic pregnancy after sterilization it was found that, in most cases, there was a delay in diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy because of the history of previous sterilization. The sterilization operation was commonly performed post partum or after abortion. Patients who had been sterilized by laparoscopic tubal cautery were more likely to have ruptured ectopic pregnancy with acute blood loss and shock than those who had open tubal ligation which was associated with a more chronic form of this condition.

Non-tubal ectopic pregnancy.

PURPOSE: 11 per 1000 pregnancies are ectopic (NICE Guidelines, 2012) with 95 % of ectopic pregnancies being tubal in origin, and 80 % of these occurring within the ampulla (The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust). 5% therefore are non-tubal. In this review we aim to collate literature relevant to non-tubal ectopic pregnancy. METHODS: Literature regarding cornual, ovarian, abdominal, interstitial, cervical and Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy was reviewed using EMBASE and Medline databases. RESULTS: Non-tubal ectopic pregnancies are often overlooked, diagnosed late and are associated with higher materna

Tubo-omental ectopic pregnancy.

Tubo-omental pregnancy is a very rare form of ectopic pregnancy. Here we present a case of tubo-omental pregnancy diagnosed at surgical exploration. A 26-year-old woman presented with abdominal discomfort, nausea and vomiting. There was ectopic pregnancy with viable foetus in the right adnexa and haemoperitonium. Laparotomy was performed and on exploration tubo-omental pregnancy was found attached to fimbria at one side and omentum at the other. Fimriaectomy and partial omentectomy was performed. The patient had a successful post-operative recovery.

Ectopic pregnancy and laparoscopy.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to compare the success of surgical procedures performed by laparoscopy and laparotomy in the treatment of tubal ectopic pregnancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this prospective study, there were 57 women who were operated due to tubal ectopic pregnancy. Laparoscopic surgery was performed in 36 women (study group). Conventional abdominal surgical treatment was performed in 21 women (control group). RESULTS: Among 36 women from study group, a laparoscopic linear salpingotomy was performed in 69.44% cases, salpingectomy in 13.88% cases, and milking of tube in 16.

Ectopic pregnancy: a review.

PURPOSE: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) presents a major health problem for women of child-bearing age. EP refers to the pregnancy occurring outside the uterine cavity that constitutes 1.2-1.4 % of all reported pregnancies. All identified risk factors are maternal: pelvic inflammatory disease, Chlamydia trachomatis infection, smoking, tubal surgery, induced conception cycle, and endometriosis. These developments have provided the atmosphere for trials using methotrexate as a non-surgical treatment for EP. The diagnosis measure of EP is serum human chorionic gonadotropin, urinary hCGRP/i-hCG, progester

hCG in ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancies remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality in women of reproductive age. Management of these pregnancies has changed dramatically over the years. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of 2 dissimilar subunits, alpha and beta, joined non-covalently. The free beta-subunit is the principal immuno-reactive agent in pregnancy serum samples. Improved diagnostic methods using hCG levels in combination with transvaginal ultrasound have lead to earlier detection rates, subsequent treatment and a reduction in mortality resulting from ectopic

[Fertility after ectopic pregnancy].

BACKGROUND: The subsequent fertility of women who had experienced ectopic pregnancy (EP) is the best criteria of the effectiveness of the treatment. In the absence of randomised trials comparing laparotomy, laparoscopy, medical treatment by methotrexate (MTX) and expectative, the only way to compare treatments is to make use of data from observational studies. METHODS: The databases consulted were Medline, Cochrane Library, National Guideline Clearinghouse and Health Technology Assessment Database. Keywords used for research: fertility; ectopic pregnancy; expectative; methotrexate; salpingect

Bilateral simultaneous ectopic pregnancy.

Spontaneous bilateral ectopic pregnancy is the rarest form of ectopic pregnancy. A 31-year-old patient with spontaneous bilateral tubal pregnancy was admitted after light vaginal bleeding, 42 days after her last menstruation. Ultrasonography showed a bilateral tubal ectopic pregnancy. A bilateral laparoscopic salpingectomy was performed without complication and the pathology report confirmed the diagnosis. This is an unusual case of early diagnosis.

[Treatment of ectopic pregnancy].

Ectopic pregnancy, a sometimes mortal complication, currently rests one of the more frequently seen problems in women being treated for sterility. The treatment, classically surgical, is now tending towards a medical treatment by methotrexate. Surgical excision of a tubular ectopic pregnancy is done by laparoscopy in preference to laparotomy, which is reserved for an acute haemoperitoneum. The conservation of the fallopian tube depends on multiple factors. Subsequent fertility is dominated by the risk of a recurrence, making call to in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the case of bilateral tubular

[Hemothorax and ectopic pregnancy].

Ectopic pregnancy presenting as haemothorax is extremely rare and difficult to handle. A case report concerning this problem is presented and a possible mechanism is discussed. The importance of bearing pregnancy in mind when fertile women present obscure symptoms is emphasized.
