Brand and addiction: A network analysis of scientific literature.

OBJECTIVE: The paper conducts a network analysis of the fragmented literature on brand and addiction. METHOD: A thematic map, thematic evolution, word cloud, co-citation analysis, and cooperation networks were utilized to identify brand addiction study trends and topics. RESULTS: The data show that marketing and psychiatry have interdisciplinary groupings and multidisciplinary publications. These groups reflect societal changes, particularly the shift from traditional to digital challenges. Fast food addiction is different from alcohol and cigarette addictions due to its ease and extensive m

[Your Partnership for Psychiatry and Neuroscience in the World -An Integrated Perspective on Mental Illness-].

Human disease structure has constantly changed in close association with the times and society. Nowadays, there are so many"brain and mind problems"against a background of social issues. In developed countries including Japan, mental illnesses have seriously affected the lives and health of patients and their families. It is historically clear that stigma towards mental ill- nesses and a fragile mental health service have led to the existing situation. Therefore, to achieve the development of psychiatry in the future, we need to ruminate over the possibility of prevention, early intervention,

Munchausen Syndrome in the Context of Liaison Psychiatry: A Case Report and a Narrative Review.

Munchausen Syndrome (MS) has been widely recognized as a severe manifestation of factitious disorder, a condition where individuals intentionally fabricate or exaggerate symptoms for psychological gratification. It represents a complex diagnostic challenge due to its elusive nature and intricate relationship with various medical conditions. We present a clinical case of a 44-year-old woman observed in the context of Liaison Psychiatry, demonstrating the intricate interplay between chronic medical conditions, psychiatric factors, and the challenges in diagnosing and managing MS. The patient exh

The Preeminence of Early Life Trauma as a Risk Factor for Worsened Long-Term Health Outcomes in Women.

Early life trauma (ELT) comprises an array of disturbingly common distressing experiences between conception and the beginning of adulthood with numerous and significant potential long-term, even transgenerational, health consequences of great public health concern, including depression, cardiovascular disease, and other psychiatric and medical disorders, and neurobiological, psychological, and behavioral effects which are sufficiently robust to confound many types of biomedical research. The impact of ELT on a woman's health trajectory appears to vary with the specific characteristics of the

Future directions in preventing relapse to substance abuse among clients with severe mental illnesses.

The authors review the literature on substance use disorders among persons with severe mental illnesses, including the other papers in this special section on relapse prevention, and suggest future directions. Although prevention of relapse to substance abuse has a well-developed theoretical and empirical base, this perspective has rarely been applied to persons with co-occurring severe mental illness. Research indicates that clients with co-occurring disorders are highly prone to relapse to substance abuse, even after they have attained full remission. Their risk factors include exacerbations

Stratifying the Risk of Depression in Adolescence: The IDEA-RS Calculator.

Adolescent depression remains one of the leading causes of disability worldwide, contributing substantially to the global burden of disease.1 Despite growing interest in early identification and prevention of depression, a persistent challenge is to deliver the right support to the right young people, at the right time. Lessons from other fields in medicine illustrate how risk-informed prevention-guided by composite prediction models-can make preventive efforts both proportionate and effective. Depression, in particular, demands a multifaceted, individualized approach to early detection-especi

Delirium in cardiovascular medicine.

Delirium is a common yet underrecognized neuropsychiatric syndrome in cardiovascular medicine associated with prolonged hospitalization, increased mortality, and long-term cognitive decline. Patients undergoing interventional or surgical cardiovascular procedures-such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, surgical aortic valve replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting, or percutaneous coronary interventions-may be particularly vulnerable to its development. Delirium incidence varies widely across cardiovascular procedures, influenced by patient characteristics, procedural invasiveness,

[Stressful situations and their effects among psychiatric residents].

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Numerous studies in the international literature address workplace traumatic experiences affecting psychiatry residents and their impacts. No such survey has been conducted in Hungary so far, so I set as my goal to assess the occurrence of stressful situations affecting Hungarian psychiatry residents and their psychological consequences. Emphasizing the mental health of psychiatry residents and improving prevention in specialist training is an essential condition for training stable, well-prepared specialists. METHODS: A total of 80 psychiatry residents from the specia

Placebo and nocebo effect: a mini-review.

It is well-known that placebo is a substance without medical effects, which benefits the health status because of the patient's belief that the substance is effective and that the nocebo is defined as a substance without medical effects but which worsenes the health status of the person taking it by the negative beliefs and expectations of the patient. Starting with the history of the placebo effect and giving a review of the most significant studies reporting about the placebo effect from 1939-2013 it was our intention to give the all-around look on this phenomena discussing the neurobiologic

A Clinical and Psychopathological Approach to Radicalization Among Adolescents.

Recent studies have shown higher rates of radicalization of adolescents than in the 2000s. Since 2015, radicalization prevention units have been implemented in child and adolescent psychiatry departments in France. We aimed to report on the psychopathology of adolescents who were followed up in a university department due to their "radical conduct." Based on the available clinical data (from child psychiatry consultations, long-term family and/or individual therapy, and psychological testing) for 20 adolescents with "radical conduct," we examined the nature of their radical conduct, their psyc

Imaging the "At-Risk" Brain: Future Directions.

OBJECTIVES: Clinical neuroscience is increasingly turning to imaging the human brain for answers to a range of questions and challenges. To date, the majority of studies have focused on the neural basis of current psychiatric symptoms, which can facilitate the identification of neurobiological markers for diagnosis. However, the increasing availability and feasibility of using imaging modalities, such as diffusion imaging and resting-state fMRI, enable longitudinal mapping of brain development. This shift in the field is opening the possibility of identifying predictive markers of risk or prog

How animal models inform child and adolescent psychiatry.

OBJECTIVE: Every available approach should be used to advance the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Biological systems are important for the behavioral problems of children. Close examination of nonhuman animals and the biology and behavior that they share with humans is an approach that must be used to advance the clinical work of child psychiatry. METHOD: We review here how model systems are used to contribute to significant insights into childhood psychiatric disorders. Model systems have not only demonstrated causality of risk factors for psychiatric pathophysiology, but have also

[Psychiatrist's Perspective on Drug Overdose and the Expected Role of Pharmacists].

Suicide remains a critical public health challenge in Japan, with the interaction between physical illness and psychiatric comorbidity emerging as a major determinant of risk. Patients with serious medical conditions face markedly elevated rates of suicidal behavior, particularly when depression or alcohol use disorders are present. Conventional preventive strategies, including screening and provider education, have yielded only modest effects. In contrast, collaborative care models that integrate psychiatrists, primary care physicians, and pharmacists demonstrate superior efficacy, significan

[The pharmacological treatment of substance use disorders].

The pharmacological treatment of substance use disorders requires a complex, differentiated approach, in which acute withdrawal treatment, relapse prevention and the treatment of comorbid psychiatric symptoms are imple mented separately, but in close connection with each other. Alcohol, opioid, cannabis and nicotine use disorders, as well as problems associated with benzodiazepine use, show significant heterogeneity in terms of their clinical presentation, course, pharmacological treatment and outcome. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the pharmacological treatment of the most

Alcohol use disorders among healthcare professionals: a call for action.

Alcohol consumption and harmful and hazardous drinking are significant contributors to the global burden of disease, accounting for about 3 million deaths each year globally. Owing to their stressful work environment, healthcare professionals are at a high risk of experiencing physical and mental health problems, particularly alcohol use disorders. Alcohol use disorder among healthcare professionals is of concern as it is associated with decreased work productivity and performance and associated ill health and cognitive impairment. This review, therefore, aimed to gather evidence on the preval

Nicotine interventions with comorbid populations.

This article reviews and comments on studies of treatment and prevention of cigarette smoking in individuals with comorbid psychiatric and non-nicotine substance abuse disorders. Despite a high prevalence of cigarette smoking in these populations and interest in quitting, treatment interventions and studies of these interventions are sparse. Multiple barriers to implementation of interventions exist. Existing data suggest that provision of cigarette-smoking interventions in substance abuse treatment patients is efficacious and does not appear to interfere with abstinence from alcohol or illici
