Links between self-regulation competences and aggressive and non-aggressive antisocial behavior in middle childhood and early adolescence: a three-wave longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Self-regulation (SR) competences have consistently been associated with aggressive and non-aggressive antisocial behavior (AAB). However, their relative importance remains unclear when various SR competences are simultaneously considered and when they are related to different long-term trajectories of AAB. In addition, little is known about potential differential associations with AAB measures. METHODS: This study investigated developmental trajectories of physical, relational, reactive, and proactive aggression; non-aggressive antisocial behavior; and an AAB total score in rela

[Advances and prospects of hemostatic strategies in hepatic surgery].

The liver is characterized by abundant blood supply and intricate anatomical architecture, rendering intraoperative and postoperative hemorrhage a primary clinical challenge. Conventional compression and suture ligation fail to enable precise perioperative hemorrhage prediction. Driven by the integration of precision medicine, artificial intelligence, and biomaterials, hemostatic strategies are undergoing a paradigm shift from passive compression to precise targeted intervention. This paper systematically reviews advances and future perspectives in hemostatic strategies for hepatic surgery. Preope

The differential effects of unihemispheric and bihemispheric tDCS over the inferior frontal gyrus on proactive control.

This study examined the effects of bihemispheric and unihemispheric transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) over the inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) on proactive control. Sixteen participants were randomized to receive (i) bihemispheric tDCS, with a 35cm2 anodal electrode of the right IFG and a 35cm2 cathode electrode of left IFG or (ii) unihemispheric tDCS, with a 35cm2 anodal electrode of the right IFG and a 100cm2 electrode of the left IFG or (iii) sham tDCS, while performing a prepotent inhibition task. There were significant speed-accuracy tradeoff effects in terms of switch costs: un

Behavioral measures of attention and cognitive control during a new auditory working memory paradigm.

Proactive control is the ability to manipulate and maintain goal-relevant information within working memory (WM), allowing individuals to selectively attend to important information while inhibiting irrelevant distractions. Deficits in proactive control may cause multiple cognitive impairments seen in schizophrenia. However, studies of cognitive control have largely relied on visual tasks, even though the functional deficits in schizophrenia are more frequent and severe in the auditory domain (i.e., hallucinations). Hence, we developed an auditory analogue of a visual ignore/suppress paradigm.

Climate-Chemistry Synergy Is Reversing Global Urban-Rural Ozone Differences.

Health-damaging surface ozone tends to be lower in populated urban areas than in the surroundings, yet this urban-rural difference is narrowing. While evidence from observations have attributed this narrowing to the reduced inhibition effect of urban nitrogen oxides, we lack clarity on how intensified humid-heat modulates precursor sensitivity in ways that reconfigure the urban-rural gradient under climate warming. Here, we integrated high-resolution air pollutant reanalysis with interpretable machine learning to quantify the global spatial patterns and temporal evolution of paired urban-rural

Motor cortex gates distractor stimulus encoding in sensory cortex.

Suppressing responses to distractor stimuli is a fundamental cognitive function, essential for performing goal-directed tasks. A common framework for the neuronal implementation of distractor suppression is the attenuation of distractor stimuli from early sensory to higher-order processing. However, details of the localization and mechanisms of attenuation are poorly understood. We trained mice to selectively respond to target stimuli in one whisker field and ignore distractor stimuli in the opposite whisker field. During expert task performance, optogenetic inhibition of whisker motor cortex

Dermatologic adverse events associated with afatinib: an oral ErbB family blocker.

Dermatologic adverse events (AEs) are frequently observed in patients receiving EGF receptor (EGFR; also known as ErbB1) tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy. The impact of these AEs goes beyond cosmesis to the discomfort from itching, pain and secondary infections, all of which may significantly impact on patient well-being, adherence and clinical outcomes. Afatinib is a potent, irreversible, oral, ErbB family blocker, inhibiting EGFR (ErbB1), HER2 (ErbB2) and ErbB4 receptor kinases. It also inhibits transphosphorylation of ErbB3. Similar to EGFR inhibitors, dermatologic AEs have been frequently

Intentionally versus spontaneously prolonged Gaze: A MEG study of active gaze-based interaction.

Eye fixations are increasingly employed to control computers through gaze-sensitive interfaces, yet the brain mechanisms supporting this non-visual use of gaze remain poorly understood. In this study, we employed 306-channel magnetoencephalography (MEG) to find out what is specific to brain activity when gaze is used voluntarily for control. MEG was recorded while participants played a video game controlled by their eye movements. Each move required object selection by fixating it for at least 500 msec. Gaze dwells were classified as intentional if followed by a confirmation gaze on a designat

Modulation of inhibitory control by prefrontal anodal tDCS: A crossover double-blind sham-controlled fMRI study.

Prefrontal anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been proposed as a potential approach to improve inhibitory control performance. The functional consequences of tDCS during inhibition tasks remain, however, largely unresolved. We addressed this question by analyzing functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) recorded while participants completed a Go/NoGo task after right-lateralized prefrontal anodal tDCS with a crossover, sham-controlled, double-blind experimental design. We replicated previous evidence for an absence of offline effect of anodal stimulation on Go/NoGo p

Inhibition of Arenaviruses by Combinations of Orally Available Approved Drugs.

Neglected diseases caused by arenaviruses such as Lassa virus (LASV) and filoviruses like Ebola virus (EBOV) primarily afflict resource-limited countries, where antiviral drug development is often minimal. Previous studies have shown that many approved drugs developed for other clinical indications inhibit EBOV and LASV and that combinations of these drugs provide synergistic suppression of EBOV, often by blocking discrete steps in virus entry. We hypothesize that repurposing of combinations of orally administered approved drugs provides effective suppression of arenaviruses. In this report, w

Managing High-Risk Drug Interactions With Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir: Experience From a Dedicated Pharmacology Advice Service.

Nirmatrelvir boosted with ritonavir is a key antiviral against COVID-19, yet ritonavir's potent CYP3A4 inhibition exposes patients to numerous drug-drug interactions. To make prescribing safer, a national proactive system providing expert pharmacology advice was implemented in France. This retrospective study reports the experience of the pharmacology department at Rennes University Hospital, which provided these expert services from February 2022 to December 2024. We evaluated 455 consecutive patients (median age 75 years, median eight co-medications per patient, 3813 prescription lines). Nir

Identification and Characterization of ACP-5862, the Major Circulating Active Metabolite of Acalabrutinib: Both Are Potent and Selective Covalent Bruton Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors .

Acalabrutinib is a covalent Bruton tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor approved for relapsed/refractory mantle cell lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma. A major metabolite of acalabrutinib (M27, ACP-5862) was observed in human plasma circulation. Subsequently, the metabolite was purified from an in vitro biosynthetic reaction and shown by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to be a pyrrolidine ring-opened ketone/amide. Synthesis confirmed its structure, and covalent inhibition of wild-type BTK was observed in a biochemical kinase assay. A twofold lower potency

Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors and cardiovascular adverse events.

Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKi) have transformed the management of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and other B-cell malignancies, yet their therapeutic benefit is tempered by clinically relevant cardiovascular toxicities (predominantly atrial fibrillation, hypertension, bleeding and ventricular arrhythmias). Pharmacological differences in cardiotoxicity arise from binding mode and kinase selectivity profiles. First- and second-generation covalent BTKi (ibrutinib, acalabrutinib, zanubrutinib) irreversibly target Cys481, leading to off-target engagement of other kinases that regulate card

The pancreatic signal of GLP-1 receptor agonists: A biliary phenomenon rather than direct toxicity.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are fundamental in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity. While early preclinical data raised concerns regarding direct pancreatic toxicity, contemporary human evidence from 2020 to 2025 has shifted the safety narrative. Meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) demonstrate no statistically significant independent association between GLP-1 RA use and acute pancreatitis (AP) (MH-OR 1.24 [0.94, 1.64]; P = .13).However, real-world data identifies a transient increase in risk during the first 6 months of treat

Variation in restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests relates to inhibitory control and shifting in children with autism spectrum disorder.

Symptoms of restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests in autism are theoretically linked to executive functioning, which includes problem-solving abilities such as inhibition and cognitive flexibility. This study examined whether inhibition and flexibility are related to higher order restricted and repetitive behaviors and interests (e.g. circumscribed interests and ritualistic behavior) and sensorimotor behaviors (e.g. stereotyped and repetitive movements and sensory preoccupations) among 102 school-aged children with autism spectrum disorder who had cognitive abilities in the average

Beyond mentorship: the promise and perils of sponsorship in health professions education research.

Mentorship has long been regarded as foundational for academic advancement. However, the potentially transformative role of sponsorship remains underexplored in health professions education (HPE) research. Sponsorship, the proactive leveraging of influence to advocate for others, can offer critical support to early-career researchers. Yet, while sponsorship has clear benefits, it is neither universally necessary, nor free of potential challenges. This article offers a critical examination of sponsorship in HPE research, discussing its advantages, complexities, and potential risks. Drawing from

Decoding human response inhibition: evidence from GPi and thalamic electrophysiology during a go/no-go task.

The globus pallidus internus (GPi), a critical output structure of the basal ganglia, plays a central role in motor control by facilitating or inhibiting cortical commands through its connections with the thalamus. This study investigates the involvement of the GPi and thalamus in inhibitory processes during a Go/No-Go task in six patients undergoing deep brain stimulation (DBS) for dystonia or Tourette syndrome. Local field potentials (LFPs) were recorded from externalized DBS electrodes prior to pulse generator implantation. In line with recent computational models of the basal ganglia, we h

Respiratory depression with concomitant use of opioids and cannabinoids: a case report.

BACKGROUND: The United States has had a 15-fold increase in daily cannabis use in the last 30 years. There is a growing importance for palliative care physicians to understand the pharmacological interactions between high-dose opioids and cannabinoids when treating patients with cancer-related pain who are increasingly concomitantly using cannabinoids. We present a case of respiratory depression following high‑dose THC and opioids. We discuss proposed mechanistic interactions, the importance of cannabinoid use in social history, and the role of proactive counseling of patients with concomitant

Neurophysiological Evidence of Enhanced Cognitive Control Following Auditory Control Enhancement (ACE) Therapy: A Pilot RCT in Schizophrenia-Spectrum Disorders with Persistent Auditory Hallucinations.

Schizophrenia (Sz) involves positive symptoms such as auditory hallucinations, paranoia, and delusions, and are commonly linked to deficits in cognitive control. These deficits appear in tasks like the A-X version of the continuous performance test (AX-CPT), which reflects reduced proactive control, and in diminished auditory steady-state responses (ASSR) during selective attention. Notably, in Sz, ASSR to sounds presented during diverted attention increases with hallucination severity. We report results from a single-blind randomized controlled trial evaluating Auditory Control Enhancement (A
