Co-fermentation of Hanseniaspora uvarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae improves flavor in low-alcohol peach beverages.

Isolation, selection and aroma characterization of native non-Saccharomyces yeasts are key for developing novel-flavored low-alcohol beverages. To screen non-Saccharomyces yeasts for alcohol reduction and aroma enhancement in low-alcohol yellow peach beverages, 327 yeast strains were isolated from the spontaneous fermentation processes in various fruits. Following colorimetric alcohol assays and the olfactory method, nine Hanseniaspora uvarum (H. uvarum) with low-alcohol and high-aroma phenotypes were selected for co-fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae). The alcohol conte

Divergent sensory-metabolic fingerprints in Longjing peach tea beverage: Decoding quality evolution under HPP versus UHT sterilization.

Thermal sterilization often compromises beverage quality, making non-thermal sterilization a potential alternative. This study systematically compared the effects of high pressure processing (HPP) and ultra-high temperature (UHT) sterilization on the quality of Longjing peach tea beverage. Through sensory evaluation, physicochemical analysis, and multi-platform metabolomics combined with multivariate statistics, it was found that UHT significantly reduced acceptability, enhanced cooked off-flavor and astringency, and accelerated browning. In contrast, compared to UHT, HPP resulted in a sensory

5-Aminolevulinic acid promotes cell division and young fruit development by suppressing the PpARF9-PpGH3.1 auxin-conjugation module in peach.

5-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is an emerging plant growth regulator, yet its mechanisms in fruit development remain unclear. Here, we show that ALA promotes early growth and ultimate size in peach (Prunus persica) fruits. ALA treatment significantly enhanced the mesocarp area and the cell number, accompanied by elevated levels of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and trans-zeatin riboside. Transcriptomic analysis identified PpARF9 as a key transcriptional factor, regulating auxin homeostasis and responsive to ALA treatment. Functional studies with yeast-one-hybrid (Y1H), dual-luciferase (DLR), electrop

A new optical interferometric-based in vitro detection system for the specific IgE detection in serum of the main peach allergen.

Food allergens cause worldwide chronic diseases with a great impact on public health. Immunoglobulins E (IgEs) trigger allergic reactions by specifically binding the allergens to which the allergic patients are sensitized. In this scientific work we report for the first time a new optical interferometric in vitro system for the detection of specific IgEs (sIgEs) to the principal peach allergen (Pru p 3) in real serum samples. Interferometric Optical Detection Method (IODM) was employed for reading out the signal of Fabry-Perot based interferometers acting as biotransducers. Pru p 3 was immobil

PpAPRR2 regulates chlorophyll biosynthesis and chloroplast development during early fruit development in peach.

PpAPRR2 promotes chlorophyll accumulation in peach fruit, and its overexpression enhances fruitgreening in tomato. Fruit peel color represents an important quality trait in peach (Prunus persica L.), determined by the dynamic balance between chlorophyll and anthocyanin metabolism. While the regulatory networks controlling anthocyanin regulation have been well documented, the molecular mechanisms governing chlorophyll accumulation and peel greening remain less understood. Here, we identified nine ARR-B family transcription factors in peach and found that PpAPRR2 was predominantly expressed duri

Structural and Functional Characterization of the Heterodimeric Voltage-Gated Sodium Channel in the Green Peach Aphid Myzus persicae.

Voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) are primary targets of pyrethroid insecticides, yet aphids possess a unique architecture with gene fission and a noncanonical DENS selectivity filter. Here, the VGSC of Myzus persicae was characterized using heterologous expression, electrophysiology, structural modeling, and molecular docking. Individual channel fragments failed to produce sodium currents, whereas linker concatenation partially restored activity with reduced amplitude, indicating impaired interdomain coupling. Despite the DENS motif, sodium selectivity was retained, indicating that ion di

Exogenous H2S promoted osmoregulatory capability via PpWRKY11-mediated transcriptional activation of PpGAD1 in cold-stored peach fruit.

The mechanisms by which hydrogen sulfide (H2S) treatment alleviates chilling injury (CI) in cold-stored peach fruit through the enhancement of osmoregulatory substances accumulation require further investigation. Exogenous H2S treatment increased the levels of osmolyte-related amino acids (glutamate (Glu), ornithine (Orn), and arginine (Arg)); enhanced the activity of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) metabolism-related enzymes and expression of PpGAD1, PpGAD2, and PpGABA-T; and elevated activity of polyamines (PAs) metabolism-related enzymes and expression of PpADC, PpODC, PpPAO1, and PpPAO2, ultima

Evaluation of two commercial peach extracts for skin prick testing in the diagnosis of hypersensitivity to lipid transfer protein. A multicenter study.

The clinical usefulness of two commercial peach extracts for SPT (by Lofarma SpA and ALK-Abellò, respectively) was compared in a multicenter study carried out in Italy. Peach allergic patients were tested with the two extracts in parallel and underwent the detection of IgE specific for all three peach allergens currently available (Pru p1, Pru p3, and Pru p4, respectively). The two extracts were almost identical in terms of sensitivity and specificity, being able to detect virtually all patients sensitized to stable peach allergens (lipid transfer protein (LTP) and, presumably, peamaclein) but

Dietary fiber pectin alters the gut microbiota and diminishes the inflammatory immune responses in an experimental peach allergy mouse model.

Since therapeutic options are limited the utilization of prebiotics is suggested to prevent food allergies (FAs). Using an experimental peach allergy model we explored the effect of dietary fiber pectin, a high-methoxyl heteropolysaccharide, on the manifestation of FA. CBA/J mice were sensitized, subsequently orally boosted and provoked with peach peel extract. For dietary intervention, mice were fed a pectin containing diet before (primary-preventive) or after (secondary-preventive) sensitization. Non-treated allergic and sham-treated mice were fed a diet containing 20% cellulose. Fecal micro

Peach DELLA Protein PpeDGYLA Is Not Degraded in the Presence of Active GA and Causes Dwarfism When Overexpressed in Poplar and Arabidopsis.

Controlling the tree size of fruit species such as peach can reduce the amount of labor and input needed for orchard management. The phytohormone gibberellin (GA) positively regulates tree size by inducing degradation of the GA signaling repressor DELLA. The N-terminal DELLA domain in this protein is critical for its GA-dependent interaction with the GA receptor GID1 and the resulting degradation of the DELLA protein, which allows for growth-promoting GA signaling. In this study, a DELLA family member, PpeDGYLA, contains a DELLA domain but has amino acid changes in three conserved motifs (DELL

Multimedia mass balance approach to characterizing the transport potential of antibiotics in soil-plant systems following manure application.

Antibiotics are ubiquitous in agro-ecosystems worldwide, which can pose remarkable risks to ecological security and human health. However, comprehensive evaluation on the multimedia fate and transport potential of antibiotics in soil-plant systems is still lacking. A mass balance approach was performed to gain insights into the transport and fate of antibiotics in soil-plant systems following manure application. Our results showed that more than 99 % of antibiotics were released from applied manure fertilizer into the soil-plant system. Antibiotic concentrations in soil and plant compartments

Effects of fruit bagging on pesticide fate and fruit quality in peach under mixed-pesticide applications.

Fruit bagging is widely adopted in peach production. However, its integrated effects on pesticide fate and fruit quality under mixed-pesticide applications remain insufficiently understood. This study systematically investigated the effects of peach fruit bagging on the deposition, dissipation kinetics, metabolism, dietary risk, and fruit quality of four commonly used pesticides (difenoconazole, azoxystrobin, thiacloprid, and spirotetramat) under greenhouse and open-field conditions. Our findings indicate that fruit bagging significantly reduced the initial deposits of all pesticides, but it a

A new library of pyridine carboxamides for the control of peach brown rot: synthesis, antifungal activity, and preliminary mode of action.

Peach (Prunus persica L.) is an economically important fruit crop, yet its yield and quality are severely threatened by brown rot, primarily caused by Monilia fructigena. To address this challenge, a series of novel pyridine carboxamides were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their antifungal properties. In vitro assays revealed that several compounds, notably II-6, II-9, II-13, II-16, III-4, III-12, and IV-4, exhibited potent antifungal activity against M. fructigena, with EC50 values ranging from 11.5 to 16.1 µg/mL, significantly surpassing the commercial fungicide azoxystrobin (EC50

Alginate Hydrogel with Pluronic F-68 Enhances Cryopreservation Efficiency in Peach Germplasm.

The long-term conservation of Prunus persica (peach), a crop of significant agronomic and genetic value, remains challenging due to its recalcitrance to conventional cryopreservation methods. Low tolerance to dehydration and cryoprotectant toxicity often results in poor survival and regrowth, thereby limiting the reliability of germplasm storage. This study evaluated whether combining an alginate hydrogel matrix with Pluronic F-68 improves vitrification efficiency and post-thaw regeneration of peach shoot tips by enhancing dehydration dynamics and reducing cryo-injury. Shoot tips were immobili

Ecospheric Decontamination Attained via Green Nanobiotechnological NiO-Based Nanocatalyst Derived from Nature's Biofactories.

INTRODUCTION: Water contamination from dye effluents from various industrial sources has become a major challenge of the scientific community that is difficult to remediate using orthodox chemical and biological procedures. As such, there is a need for more suitable and cost-effective ways to treat such effluents. The present work describes a green-synthesis approach for preparation of three types of Ni-based oxides as effective catalytic materials to remove environmental pollutants. Metal oxide nanomaterials are cheap, abundant, and ecofriendly earth metals, and thus are promising materials f

The Effect of Dietary Peach Pomace on the Performance, Blood Parameters, Carcass Traits, Organ Weights, and Meat Quality Parameters of Broiler Chickens.

Using peach (Prunus persica L.) pomace as feed material could reduce the environmental impact of agro-waste disposal while exploring alternative feed ingredients that may support sustainability in poultry production. Nonetheless, their nutritive value in poultry production remains unexplored. The effect of peach pomace meal (PPM) on broiler chickens' growth performance, physiological status, and meat quality was investigated. Seven-day-old male Ross 308 chicks (n = 280; 140 ± 0.07 g live-weight) were randomly distributed to four experimental diets containing PPM at 0 (CON), 100 (PPM100), 150 (

Identification of Putative Markers of Non-infectious Bud Failure in Almond [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb] Through Genome Wide DNA Methylation Profiling and Gene Expression Analysis in an Almond × Peach Hybrid Population.

Almond [Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A. Webb] is an economically important nut crop susceptible to the genetic disorder, Non-infectious Bud Failure (NBF). Despite the severity of exhibition in several prominent almond cultivars, no causal mechanism has been identified underlying NBF development. The disorder is hypothesized to be associated with differential DNA methylation patterns based on patterns of inheritance (i.e., via sexual reproduction and clonal propagation) and previous work profiling methylation in affected trees. Peach (Prunus persica L. Batsch) is a closely related species that readi
