[Adolescent psychiatry addiction centers--necessary and effective? Treatment follow-up of adolescent psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation for adolescent drug addicts].

194 patients who were referred to adolescent psychiatry inpatient unit (98) and a drug rehabilitation unit (96) in 1999 and 2000 were compared as to sociodemographic variables, comorbidity and course of treatment. Female patients were overrepresented in the psychiatry unit, whereas in the rehab unit more immigrants or referrals from juvenile detention were treated. Most psychiatry patients were comorbid with at least one, a quarter with more than one additional diagnosis and had less polysubstance dependence (69%). Due to a drop out rate of 71% in the patients with a criminal justice status, r

Psychophysiological stress response after a 6-week Mindful Self-Compassion training in psychiatric rehabilitation inpatients: a randomized post-test only study.

OBJECTIVES: Mindfulness-based interventions (including self-compassion interventions) are effective in improving stress management at psychological and physical levels. Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is a newly developed program particularly aimed at increasing self-compassion. The main objective of this study was to determine whether the psychophysiological stress response during a social-evaluative speaking task differs in inpatients participating in the MSC or the Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) program at the end of their 6-week psychiatric rehabilitation stay (i.e., post-test only desi

RESULTS: In total, 5375

A structured review of psychiatric rehabilitation for individuals living with severe mental illness within three regions of the Asia-Pacific: Implications for practice and policy.

INTRODUCTION: Psychiatric rehabilitation can provide and support recovery-oriented care by assisting individuals living with severe mental illness to lead full lives. Despite a well-established evidence-base, implementation and access to these interventions in clinical practice for people with severe mental illness in the Asia-Pacific region is low. We therefore aimed to evaluate prominent themes impacting on clinical practice, policy, and the implementation of psychiatric rehabilitation across the Asia-Pacific region. METHODS: A comprehensive review of relevant literature on psychiatric reha

Toward a Gender-Sensitive Approach of Psychiatric Rehabilitation in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): A Systematic Review of Women Needs in the Domains of Romantic Relationships and Reproductive Health.

Later age of diagnosis, better expressive behaviors, increased use of camouflage strategies but also increased psychiatric symptoms, more unmet needs, and a general lower quality of life are characteristics often associated with female gender in autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Psychiatric rehabilitation has shown small to moderate effectiveness in improving patients' outcomes in ASD. Few gender differences have been found in the response to psychiatric rehabilitation. This might be related to the predominance of males in research samples, but also to the lack of programs directly addressing wo

Meaningful Activities and Recovery (MA&R): the effect of a novel rehabilitation intervention among persons with psychiatric disabilities on activity engagement-study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Engagement in activities meaningful to the individual may support the process of recovery in those with mental illness. Persons with psychiatric disabilities may reduce their engagement in meaningful activities to various degrees with possible fluctuations over time. We hypothesized that activity engagement can be altered when opportunities and support are offered at an individual and a group peer-based level. Evidence is lacking regarding mental health interventions that enable engagement in meaningful activities, and powered effect studies are warranted. METHODS: We propose an 8

[Vocational training for persons with psychiatric illnesses in Gütersloh BTZ. Occupational rehabilitation by training comprehensive key qualifications with concomitant social adjustment services, but without independent training centers--can it be done?].

Gütersloh BTZ has practiced vocational training for the mentally handicapped since August 1995. The main goal is to place the clients into employment in the regular workforce. This is done by intensive vocational training yet without having workshops attached to the institution itself. Gütersloh BTZ is comparable to other training centres in Germany like those in Hamburg, Duisburg, Köln, Dortmund, Paderborn, Straubing, Wiesloch and Schleusingen. They are similar in terms of personnel key, financial support for participants and standards of quality. The main difference between Gütersloh BTZ and

Consumers living with psychosis: Perspectives on sexuality.

Mental health clinicians work within a recovery framework that is rights based and emphasizes positive and respectful approaches to working with mental health consumers. Mental health nurses' practice is also predicated on holism and inclusiveness, yet consumers' sexuality is sometimes neglected and rights in this area overlooked. Also overlooked is sexuality as an area for investigation, particularly from a consumer perspective, even though it constitutes part of consumers' broader remit of sexual health. This paper reports findings from a case study where consumers were asked about their abi

Predictors of Psychiatric Hospitalization After Discharge From Inpatient Neurorehabilitation for Traumatic Brain Injury.

OBJECTIVE: To examine, among persons discharged from inpatient rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury (TBI), the degree to which pre-TBI factors were associated with post-TBI hospitalization for psychiatric reasons. The authors hypothesized that pre-TBI psychiatric hospitalization and other pre-TBI mental health treatment would predict post-TBI psychiatric hospitalization following rehabilitation discharge, up to 5 years post-TBI.
