BACKGROUND: Single-visit pulpectomy (SVP) protocol with rotary files is highly recommended for the treatment of teeth with irreversible pulpitis. Various rotary endodontic files specially designed for use in the pediatric population are available. The aim is to clinically assess the parameters related to the time required for biomechanical preparation (TBMP) and quality of filling using a single file system vs a sequential multi-file system in infected primary mandibular molars.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 45 infected primary molars were allocated to three groups (two experimental group

OBJECTIVE: This randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the mid-term (5-year) prognosis of mandibular third molar autotransplantation between two surgical protocols: conventional autotransplantation and immediate pulpectomy autotransplantation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty patients with unrestorable molars and suitable impacted third molars were randomized into two equal groups. Group I (n = 20) underwent conventional autotransplantation, while Group II (n = 20) received extra-alveolar pulpectomy (performed on the extracted donor tooth before transplantation). Primary outcomes were 5-year

A 68-year-old woman received a formocresol pulpectomy of the right lower lateral incisor. The temporary restoration was lost within hours. The next day, the patient suffered continuous pain, the gingiva sloughed, and the alveolar bone was exposed. Four days after treatment, the patient complained of moderate pain. Six days after the pulpectomy, the tooth spontaneously exfoliated. At this time she was referred to our hospital. The clinical diagnosis was chronic alveolitis. Treatment consisted of irrigation of the area. Three weeks after the pulpectomy, the dull pain had subsided, but the alveol

The aim of this study was to present the treatment and long-term follow-up of a case in which white mineral trioxide aggregate (WMTA) was used in the pulpectomy of a non-vital primary molar with no permanent successor. The physiological, aesthetic and functional consequences of treating primary teeth without permanent successors makes this a unique challenge. In the present case, WMTA was used in the pulpectomy of a primary molar with no permanent successor in an 8-year-old child. The treatment was considered successful. Follow-up examinations showed that root resorption in the mesial root sur

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) and calcium hydroxide/iodoform paste (Vitapex), as root canal filling materials in pulpectomy, on delaying the root resorption of primary molars without permanent successors. Animal models without permanent successors were surgically established in beagle dogs. Root resorption was observed via periapical radiographs. The onset of root resorption of primary mandibular molars without successors occurred later (p<0.05) than physiologic resorption. ZOE pulpectomy clearly delayed the root resorption of primary molars w

Research evaluating the clinical and radiographic outcomes of lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR), particularly in terms of mobility, pain, sinus tract, fistula, swelling, root resorption, and interradicular radiolucency is yet to be conducted. This systematic review aimed to assess the clinical and radiographic success of LSTR using three antibacterial drug combinations-"three Mix" (3MIX)-and compare their success rates with those of conventional pulpectomy and pulpotomy in treating primary teeth. Additionally, the review sought to determine which antibiotic combination is most effe

BACKGROUND: An irreversibly infected carious primary tooth is often treated by pulpectomy or lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR), with the latter employing a triple mix of antibiotics (metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, and minocycline). Recently, double antibiotic paste (DAP-metronidazole and ciprofloxacin) has been shown to be safer with good antimicrobial efficacy and better biocompatibility with stem cells at concentrations of 1 mg/mL drug mix.
AIM: To assess the clinical and radiographic success of 1 mg/mL DAP and compare it with calcium hydroxide-iodoform pulpectomy in carious infe

When there's a diagnosis of follicular cyst. In front of lesions of advanced decay in deciduoud teeth about which is possible to presume chronical apical infection, we have to evaluate carefully the choice of treatment: pulpectomy or exodontia and the placement of a space maintainer. In this article there's a case in which a non-indicated pulpectomy was practised and caused a follicular cyst which is a menace to the formation and position of the unerupted permanent teeth. After the surgery we proceeded to exodontia and subsequently to place a space maintainer.

Dental caries is indeed the biggest cause of tooth loss, particularly in the primary dentition. In primary teeth with carious pulp involvements, endodontic intervention in the form of pulpotomy (removal of only the coronal pulp) or pulpectomy (removal of coronal and radicular pulp) is advocated. Pulpectomy can be laborious and time-consuming, especially when using traditional hand endodontic files to shape root canals. In paediatric dentistry, motorised nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary instrumentation has proved significant in enhancing the quality of pulpectomy. In primary dentition, however, t

OBJECTIVE: To assess whether lesion sterilization and tissue repair (LSTR) technique resulted in similar clinical and radiographic success outcomes as compared with pulpectomy in primary teeth.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Randomized clinical trials comparing LSTR with pulpectomy by means of clinical and radiographic parameters were included. Risk of bias was assessed using Cochrane methodology and the certainty of evidence was determined by GRADE.
RESULTS: Six articles were included. Conventional pulpectomy was favored with respect to radiographic success frequency in the systematic review. Four

The fundamental objective of pulp treatment is to preserve the integrity and health of oral tissues. Pulp necrosis or irreversible pulpitis is the key indication for performing pulpectomy in primary teeth. It can be performed as a single-visit or multi-visit procedure using suitable obturating material. Various obturating materials can be used like zinc-oxide eugenol or metapex. A controversy reflects in literature and among experts in regard to single-visit or multi-visit endodontics. Hence, the purpose of this randomized clinical trial is to assess the incidence of postoperative pain with zi

CONTEXT: Postoperative pain and persistent microbial contamination remain significant challenges in pediatric endodontics following pulpectomy. Intracanal cryotherapy has emerged as a promising adjunct because of its anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial properties. However, its effectiveness requires further clinical evaluation.
AIM: The aim of the study was to compare the effect of intracanal cryotherapy using cold saline (2°C-4°C) with room temperature saline (25°C-30°C) on postoperative pain and antimicrobial efficacy during the pulpectomy procedure in primary teeth.

Pulpectomy is preferably more conservative treatment option than the extraction of deciduous teeth despite few undesirable consequences of obturating materials of which odontogenic cysts are one. This article aims to report a case of an 11-year-old female child having bilateral odontogenic cysts, i.e., radicular and infected dentigerous cyst followed by pulpectomy of deciduous molars using zinc oxide eugenol which was surgically enucleated and followed up to 6 months until satisfactory healing of bone was observed. The article also emphasizes on the importance of regular follow-up of the pulpe

Inferior alveolar nerve block has a high failure rate in the treatment of mandibular posterior teeth with irreversible pulpitis. The aim of this study was to compare the anesthetic efficacy of 4% articaine, 2% lidocaine and 2% mepivacaine, all in combination with 1:100,000 epinephrine, in patients with irreversible pulpitis of permanent mandibular molars during a pulpectomy procedure. Sixty-six volunteers from the Emergency Center of the School of Dentistry, University of São Paulo, randomly received 3.6 mL of local anesthetic as a conventional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB).
