Simultaneous Preparation of Salidroside and p-Tyrosol from Rhodiola crenulata by DIAION HP-20 Macroporous Resin Chromatography Combined with Silica Gel Chromatography.

The Rhodiola species have a long history of utilization in traditional medicine and have been considered as a source of adaptation to environmental challenges; salidroside and p-tyrosol are the major responsible compounds. Here we propose a novel UPLC-guided two-step method consisting of a DIAION HP-20 adsorption and silica gel column chromatographies, which can simultaneously prepare high purities of salidroside and p-tyrosol with noticeable yields from the rhizome of Rhodiola crenulata. Results demonstrated that DIAION HP-20 could successfully remove all impurities except crenulatin during a

Exercise Combined with Rhodiola sacra Supplementation Improves Exercise Capacity and Ameliorates Exhaustive Exercise-Induced Muscle Damage through Enhancement of Mitochondrial Quality Control.

Mounting evidence has firmly established that increased exercise capacity (EC) is associated with considerable improvements in the survival of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and that antistress capacity is a prognostic predictor of adverse cardiovascular events in patients with CVD. Previous studies have indicated that aerobic exercise (AE) and supplementation with Rhodiola sacra (RS), a natural plant pharmaceutical, improve EC and enable resistance to stress; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study explored the ability of AE and RS, alone or combined, to impr

Rapid Lipidomics Analysis of Oxidised Phosphatidylcholines in Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Acute Hepatic Injury in Mice and Their Regulation by Rhodiola crenulata Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins.

RATIONALE: Acute hepatic injury (AHI) is a severe liver disorder that can be aggravated by oxidative stress and inflammatory responses. Oxidative stress initiates lipid peroxidation, generating a spectrum of oxidised phosphatidylcholines (oxPCs). OxPCs are commonly identified by their positional and isomeric variations. However, their structural diversity and chemical reactivity make their identification challenging. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) are bioactive metabolites of Rhodiola crenulata, well-known for their potential therapeutic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. However,

Two chromosome-level genome assemblies of Rhodiola shed new light on genome evolution in rapid radiation and evolution of the biosynthetic pathway of salidroside.

Rhodiola L. is a genus that has undergone rapid radiation in the mid-Miocene and may represent a typic case of adaptive radiation. Many species of Rhodiola have also been widely used as an important adaptogen in traditional medicines for centuries. However, a lack of high-quality chromosome-level genomes hinders in-depth study of its evolution and biosynthetic pathway of secondary metabolites. Here, we assembled two chromosome-level genomes for two Rhodiola species with different chromosome number and sexual system. The assembled genome size of R. chrysanthemifolia (2n = 14; hermaphrodite) and

Effect of Rhodiola rosea Rhizome and Punica granatum Fruit Peel on the Metabolic Processes and Physiological Activity of Rats Fed with Excessively Fat Diet.

RESEARCH BACKGROUND: Rhodiola rosea (golden root) and Punica granatum (pomegranate), as well as a number of other species of medicinal plants, exert an array of biological effects: adaptogenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. However, there are not enough contemporary studies of their influence on metabolic processes, especially in cases of imbalanced diet. Lipid dysregulation is the main reason for many diseases, including obesity, cardiovascular disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, atherosclerosis and insulin resistance. Recently, a growing amount of evidence has su

Citrus aurantium and Rhodiola rosea in combination reduce visceral white adipose tissue and increase hypothalamic norepinephrine in a rat model of diet-induced obesity.

Extracts from the immature fruit of Citrus aurantium are often used for weight loss but are reported to produce adverse cardiovascular effects. Root extracts of Rhodiola rosea have notable antistress properties. The hypothesis of these studies was that C aurantium (6% synephrine) and R rosea (3% rosavins, 1% salidroside) in combination would improve diet-induced obesity alterations in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. In normal-weight animals fed standard chow, acute administration of C aurantium (1-10 mg/kg) or R rosea (2-20 mg/kg) alone did not reduce deprivation-induced food intake, but C aur
