Influence of apical patency and filling material on healing process of dogs' teeth with vital pulp after root canal therapy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the periapical healing process of dogs' teeth with or without apical patency and after root canal filling with two types of sealers. Forty roots of premolars and incisors were utilized. The root canals were over-instrumented and dressed with a corticosteroid-antibiotic solution for 7 days to obtain ingrowth of periapical connective tissue into the canals. After this period, the tissue was removed in half of the specimens (groups with patency) and preserved in the other half (groups without patency). Canals were filled by lateral condensation techniq

The Effectiveness of Full Pulpotomy Versus Root Canal Therapy for Mature Teeth With Irreversible Pulpitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Full pulpotomy preserves the radicular pulp and may reduce the procedural burden of root canal therapy (RCT), but comparative randomized evidence in mature teeth with irreversible pulpitis remains limited. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing the two procedures. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched from inception through February 2026. Five trials comprising 832 participants were eligible. The primary outcome was pain at seven days after treatment; secondary outcomes were pain at one day, time to pain relief,

ICG-mediated photothermal antimicrobial therapy against Candida albicans biofilms in the root canal system: in vitro antimicrobial activity and oxidative stress.

Fungi are strongly associated with persistent endodontic infections, with Candida albicans being the most frequently isolated species, which justifies the investigation of adjunctive therapies to conventional root canal disinfection. This study evaluated the antimicrobial, biofilm metabolic activity and oxidative effects of indocyanine green (ICG)-mediated photothermal antimicrobial therapy compared to antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) protocols against C. albicans biofilms. Biofilms were established on standardized bovine incisors distributed into five groups: methylene blue (MB) acti

Rare spontaneous formation of a dentin bridge post-dental trauma: A cone beam computed tomography-based case report with root canal therapy.

Spontaneous dentin bridge formation in mature teeth without pulp exposure or therapeutic intervention is an exceedingly rare phenomenon. This case report describes a 54-year-old male patient presenting with gray discoloration of the right maxillary central incisor (tooth #11) following dental trauma in 2019. Clinical examination indicated coronal pulp necrosis, while periapical radiography and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) confirmed internal resorption in the coronal pulp chamber with a thick, regular dentin bridge formed spontaneously beneath the resorbed area. The dentin bridge preser

Exploring different photosensitizers to optimize elimination of planktonic and biofilm forms of Enterococcus faecalis from infected root canal during antimicrobial photodynamic therapy.

BACKGROUND: Despite the high success rate of endodontic treatment, failure may occur in some cases. In this case, Enterococcus faecalis is the most common species in endodontic treatment failure and post-treatment apical periodontitis. Therefore, a new adjunctive strategy is needed for the prevention of endodontic infections due to E. faecalis. The aim of the present study was to compare the antimicrobial and anti-biofilm activities of different common photosensitizers (PSs) for use in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) against E. faecalis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: E. faecalis strain ATC

[Early loss of primary molar and permanent tooth germ caused by the use of devitalizer during primary molar root canal therapy: Two cases report].

Devitalization has been widely used in the root canal therapy of primary and permanent teeth in China more than ten years ago. With the development of local anesthetic drugs and injection technologies, this treatment method with high potential risks has been gradually abandoned. However, a questionnaire survey targeted all the participants at the 2018 China Pediatric Dentistry Conference showed that the devitalizer utilization proportion was still as high as 38.1% (383/1 005), even though the ratio was much lower than 75.5% (105/139) in 2003.
