Sympathoexcitation by oxidative stress in the brain mediates arterial pressure elevation in salt-sensitive hypertension.

Central sympathoexcitation is involved in the pathogenesis of salt-sensitive hypertension. We have suggested that oxidative stress in the brain modulates the sympathetic regulation of arterial pressure. Thus, we investigated whether oxidative stress could mediate central sympathoexcitation in salt-sensitive hypertension. Five- to 6-week-old male Dahl salt-sensitive rats and salt-resistant rats were fed with a normal (0.3%) or high- (8%) salt diet for 4 weeks. In urethane-anesthetized and artificially ventilated rats, arterial pressure, renal sympathetic nerve activity, and heart rate decreased

Membrane Proteomics Reveals the Role of Plant-Derived Smoke Solution on Wheat Under Salt Stress.

Salt stress severely limits wheat growth and seed yield; however, the mechanisms underlying plant-derived smoke (PDS)-induced salt tolerance remain unclear. The present study performs membrane proteomics to clarify how PDS solution enhances salt tolerance in wheat. Immunoblot analysis of subcellular marker proteins confirms successful enrichment of membrane fractions. Principal component analysis shows that 200 mM NaCl markedly alters membrane-protein composition in wheat roots, whereas 2000 ppm PDS solution largely restores these changes even under salt stress. At the protein level, mitochond

Auxin is involved in NtIAA17-mediated regulation of root development under salt stress in tobacco.

NtIAA17 acts as a positive regulator of salt tolerance in tobacco, which alleviates salt-repressed root growth by sustaining auxin homeostasis and antioxidant capacity. Across the globe, soil salinization severely restricts plant growth and crop yield, posing a serious threat to agricultural sustainability. While auxin is indispensable for the control of root development and abiotic stress adaptation, the precise mechanism through which this hormone modulates salt tolerance in tobacco remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that salt stress markedly inhibits root growth in tobacco, whi

Dynamic and non-additive gene regulation shapes maize responses to simultaneous salt and cold stress.

Salt and cold stresses often occur together in nature and severely impact crop productivity, yet their transcriptional regulation remains poorly understood. Here, we conducted a time-series transcriptomic analysis of maize under salt, cold, and their combination at 0, 6, 12, and 24 h. Differential expression analysis revealed dynamic, condition-specific gene responses grouped into eight distinct temporal patterns. Promoter motif analysis of genes within each pattern identified 5-39 significantly enriched motifs, with over 40% lacking known counterparts, suggesting the involvement of previously

OsPLT1 negatively regulates salt tolerance by modulating ion homeostasis and oxidative stress responses in rice.

Soil salinity represents a major abiotic constraint that limits rice development and grain production. To investigate the role of OsPLT1 in rice salt tolerance, we analyzed mutants with disrupted gene function and overexpression lines under salt stress. Under non-stress conditions, seedling growth was largely comparable among the examined genotypes. Under salt treatment, however, the osplt1 mutants exhibited significantly enhanced tolerance, whereas OsPLT1-overexpressing lines showed increased sensitivity. Compared with wild-type Nipponbare (Nip), the mutants maintained better growth vigor, ac

Salt Stress Accelerates Tyrosine Depletion by Enterococcus lactis KUST2812: Multi-Omics Insights into Metabolic Remodeling.

Enterococcus lactis KUST2812 is a halotolerant strain isolated from broad bean paste (BBP). It shows strong potential as a safe fermentation starter due to its high survival rate (98.32% in 18% NaCl), absence of hemolytic activity, and susceptibility to clinically relevant antibiotics, with resistance limited to intrinsic traits. Growth and metabolic dynamics suggest that salt stress decouples growth from tyrosine catabolism: while 6% NaCl significantly inhibited bacterial cell growth, tyrosine depletion occurred within 12 h under 6% NaCl, compared with the 96 h required under non-saline condi

The Arabidopsis thaliana mutant air1 implicates SOS3 in the regulation of anthocyanins under salt stress.

The accumulation of anthocyanins in plants exposed to salt stress has been largely documented. However, the functional link and regulatory components underlying the biosynthesis of these molecules during exposure to stress are largely unknown. In a screen of second site suppressors of the salt overly sensitive3-1 (sos3-1) mutant, we isolated the anthocyanin-impaired-response-1 (air1) mutant. air1 is unable to accumulate anthocyanins under salt stress, a key phenotype of sos3-1 under high NaCl levels (120 mM). The air1 mutant showed a defect in anthocyanin production in response to salt stress

Cell death of rice roots under salt stress may be mediated by cyanide-resistant respiration.

Treatment with solutions containing high concentrations of NaCl (200 or 300 mM) induced cell death in rice (Oryza sativa L.) roots, as well as the application of exogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Moreover, the pretreatment with dimethylthiourea (DMTU), a scavenger of H2O2, partially alleviated the root cell death induced by 200 mM NaCl. These observations suggest that the cell death of rice roots under high salt stress is linked to H2O2 accumulation in vivo. NaCl stress increased the level of cyanide-resistant respiration to some extent and enhanced the transcript levels of the alternative o

TaZFP1, a C2H2 type-ZFP gene of T. aestivum, mediates salt stress tolerance of plants by modulating diverse stress-defensive physiological processes.

Salt stress suppresses plant growth, development, and crop productivity. In this study, we characterized the role of TaZFP1, a C2H2 type-zinc finger protein family member of T. aestivum, in salt stress tolerance. TaZFP1 possesses a conserved C2H2 motif (CX2-4CX12HX3-5H) shared by plant ZFP proteins, translocates to the nucleus after endoplasmic reticulum (ER) assortment, and displays a ZF 3-D structure similar to its eukaryote homologs. The transcripts of TaZFP1 were upregulated during salt stress condition and this effect was restored under normal conditions. Compared to wild type (WT), the t

Coordinated N metabolism and NO signaling underlie allantoin-citrulline synergy in salt-stressed cucumber.

Salinity stress severely limits cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) productivity by disrupting growth, photosynthesis, and ion homeostasis. This study investigated the potential of foliar-applied allantoin (1 mM) and citrulline (1 mM) to enhance salinity tolerance in hairy cucumber, a salt-sensitive Iranian landrace. A completely randomized design factorial experiment with three replications tested salinity levels (0, 50, 100 mM NaCl) and foliar treatments (control, allantoin, citrulline, and their combination). The results showed that salinity reduced plant height, dry weight, chlorophyll content (

Effects of ectomycorrhizal fungi on the physiological and ecological characteristics of Larix gmelinii under salt stress.

Soil salinization has become a major constraint on afforestation and forest regeneration in Northeast China, limiting the growth and development of Larix gmelinii. Enhancing the salt tolerance of L. gmelinii is therefore of considerable importance, and ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) inoculation has been shown to improve plant stress resistance. However, the mechanisms by which ECMF enhance salt tolerance in L. gmelinii remain poorly understood. In this study, L. gmelinii seedlings inoculated with an ECMF consortium consisting of Boletus edulis and Chroogomphus rutilus were subjected to 120 mM Na

H2S Regulation of Metabolism in Cucumber in Response to Salt-Stress Through Transcriptome and Proteome Analysis.

In a previous study, we found that H2S alleviates salinity stress in cucumber by maintaining the Na+/K+ balance and by regulating H2S metabolism and the oxidative stress response. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms behind H2S-regulated salt-stress tolerance in cucumber. Here, an integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analysis based on RNA-seq and 2-DE was used to investigate the global mechanism underlying H2S-regulated salt-stress tolerance. In total, 11,761 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and 61 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified. Analysis of

Towards a synthetic view of potato cold and salt stress response by transcriptomic and proteomic analyses.

Potato can suffer from several abiotic stresses such as cold temperature, high soil salinity, lack of water or heavy metal exposure, to name a few. They are known to affect plant growth as well as productivity, with differential regulations at several levels. Potato response to cold and salt exposure was investigated at both transcriptomic and proteomic levels in a growth chamber experiment. Cold exposure in potato resulted in a higher number of significantly differentially regulated genes compared to salt exposure, whereas there were nearly three times more differentially regulated proteins a

Dynamic changes in the heart proteome and phosphoproteome of Pelophylax nigromaculatus during salt stress and recovery.

Salinization of freshwater ecosystems poses an escalating threat to amphibian populations worldwide, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac responses to salt stress remain poorly understood. In this study, we employed DIA-based quantitative proteomics and phosphoproteomics to systematically investigate the dynamic protein expression and phosphorylation profiles in the heart of Pelophylax nigromaculatus across low-salt, high-salt, and recovery stages. A total of 3747 proteins and 623 phosphopeptides were identified. Kinase prediction analysis revealed that ERK2, along with AGC, TKL, TK

The role of cyanoalanine synthase and alternative oxidase in promoting salt stress tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana.

BACKGROUND: Cyanide is a toxic chemical that inhibits cellular respiration. In plants, cyanide can be produced by themselves, especially under stressful conditions. Cyanoalanine synthase (CAS) is a key enzyme involved in plant cyanide detoxification. There are three genes encoding CAS in Arabidopsis thaliana, but the roles of these genes in the plant's response to stress are less studied. In addition, it is known that alternative oxidase (AOX) mediates cyanide-resistant respiration, but the relationship between CAS and AOX in regulating the plant stress response remains largely unknown. Role of Staphylococcus aureus Tet38 in Transport of Tetracycline and Its Regulation in a Salt Stress Environment.

Staphylococcus aureus Tet38 efflux pump has multiple functions, including conferring resistance to tetracycline and other compounds and enabling internalization and survival within epithelial cells. In this study, we evaluated the effects of sodium and potassium on tet38 expression. These monovalent cations are known to play a role in transport by the related S. aureus TetK and B. subtilis TetL transporters. tet38 transcription decreased with increasing sodium concentrations by means of direct repression by the salt stress-dependent KdpD/E regulator. tet38 transcription increased 20-fold and t

Stability of Metronidazole and Its Complexes with Silver(I) Salts under Various Stress Conditions.

Metronidazole is a drug widely used in the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections. Due to its possibility of the formation of stable metal complexes, it was decided to broaden its activity spectrum by introducing the silver(I) coordination compounds i.e., [Ag(MTZ)2NO3] and [(Ag(MTZ)2)2]SO4, which have significant antibacterial properties. The paper presents a description of a new qualitative and quantitative analysis of metronidazole in bulk and possible pharmaceutical preparations by thin-layer chromatography with densitometric detection. Optimal separation conditions were selected,
