Clinical Importance of Autoantibodies to SOX10 and Lamin A/C as Potential Biomarkers in Sera From Vitiligo Patients.

BACKGROUND: Diarrhea has been the second leading cause of death among children under the age of five, and the rapid and accurate pathogen diagnosis in patients with diarrhea is crucial for reducing morbidity and mortality. A newly developed one-step multiplex real-time PCR assay, the Allplex GI-Virus Assay, was evaluated for its ability to detect six diarrhea-causing viruses (rotavirus, norovirus genogroup I (GI) and genogroup II (GII), enteric adenovirus, astrovirus, and sapovirus) in stool samples. METHODS: The performance of the Allplex assay was compared with those of another multiplex PC

Multicenter Clinical Validation of the Molecular BD Max Enteric Viral Panel for Detection of Enteric Pathogens.

The conventional methodology for gastrointestinal pathogen detection remains time-consuming, expensive, and of limited sensitivity. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of the BD Max enteric viral panel (Max EVP) assay for identification of viral pathogens in stool specimens from individuals with symptoms of acute gastroenteritis, enteritis, or colitis. Prospective and archival stool specimens from adult and pediatric patients with diarrhea were collected in Cary-Blair medium or unpreserved containers. The results for specimens tested by the Max EVP (on the BD Max platfo

Viral gastroenteritis in children in Colorado 2006-2009.

Acute gastroenteritis accounts for a significant burden of medically attended illness in children under the age of five. For this study, four multiplex reverse transcription PCR assays were used to determine the incidence of adenovirus, astrovirus, coronavirus, norovirus GI and GII, rotavirus, and sapovirus in stool samples submitted for viral electron microscopy (EM) to the Children's Hospital Colorado. Of 1105 stool samples available, viral RNA/DNA was detected in 247 (26.2%) of 941 pediatric samples (median age = 2.97 years, 54% male) with 28 (3.0%) positive for more than one virus. Adenovi

High Prevalence and Diversity of Caliciviruses in a Community Setting Determined by a Metagenomic Approach.

We recently carried out a metagenomic study to determine the fecal virome of infants during their first year of life in a semirural community in Mexico. A total of 97 stool samples from nine children were collected starting 2 weeks after birth and monthly thereafter until 12 months of age. In this work, we describe the prevalence and incidence of caliciviruses in this birth cohort. We found that 54 (56%) and 24 (25%) of the samples were positive for norovirus and sapovirus sequence reads detected by next-generation sequencing, respectively. Potential infections were arbitrarily considered when
