Primary ovarian CIC-rearranged sarcoma in a child: a rare case report and review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: CIC-rearranged sarcoma (CRS) is a rare type of high-grade undifferentiated small round cell sarcoma characterized by a range of possible CIC gene rearrangements. It develops predominantly in the deep soft tissues of the limbs and trunk in young individuals (total range, 0.5-83 years; mean, 27-37 years; median, 24.5-33 years), and less commonly in bone and viscera. The occurrence of this sarcoma in the female reproductive tract is very rare, and it has not yet been described in the ovary. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a CRS case that arose from the left ovary in a 5-year-old girl.

Duration of posaconazole therapy for Aspergillus fumigatus osteomyelitis dictated by serial monitoring of 1,3-beta-D glucan.

Here, we present a case of an immunocompetent 37-year old male who developed Aspergillus fumigatus osteomyelitis 16 years after extensive chest wall reconstructive surgery for Ewing sarcoma. His treatment course was complicated by a severe adverse drug reaction to voriconazole, requiring the use of oral posaconazole therapy. Serum 1,3-beta-D glucan assay was utilized to dictate the duration of posaconazole therapy. The patient successfully completed 9 months of oral posaconazole therapy and has not had clinical recurrence for 9 months off antifungal therapy.

Molecular Cytogenetic Analysis of JAZF1, PHF1, and YWHAE in Endometrial Stromal Tumors: Discovery of Genetic Complexity by Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization.

Diagnosis of endometrial stromal tumors (ESTs) can be challenging, particularly endometrial stromal sarcomas (ESSs) because of variable histologic appearance, long latency to recurrence, frequent metastases with unknown primary, and overlap with endometrial stromal nodules and undifferentiated uterine sarcomas. To enhance EST diagnosis, a break-apart strategy fluorescence in situ hybridization panel to detect JAZF1, PHF1, and YWHAE rearrangements was applied to a cohort of primary or metastatic endometrial stromal nodules, ESSs, or undifferentiated uterine sarcomas (36 cases for JAZF1, 24 of w

A Rare Case of CIC-DUX4 Sarcoma in a Mediastinal Lymph Node Diagnosed by Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology.

CIC-rearranged sarcomas (CDS) are rare, aggressive undifferentiated small round cell tumors recently classified as a distinct entity by the World Health Organization. These tumors are defined by CIC gene fusions, most commonly CIC::DUX4, and are associated with poor prognoses and diagnostic challenges, particularly in limited cytological samples. We report the case of a 37-year-old male who presented with respiratory symptoms and was found to have mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of a right paratracheal lymph node revealed hypercellular smears of dyscohesive tumor cell

[Immunohistochemical studies of recessive oncogene p53 and N-myc oncogene expression in 7, 12 dimethylbenz (a) anthracene-induced rat ovarian tumors].

In the present study, the expressions of p53 and N-myc gene were analyzed immunohistochemically in rat ovarian tumors induced by 7,12 dimethylbenz (a) anthracene (DMBA). 1) p53 could be seen in the nucleolei of tumor cells. The positive rates were: adenomas 17%, adenocarcinomas 37%, sarcomas 0%, mixed müllerian tumor 0% and epidermal cysts 100%. Neither the serial-allografted tumor nor DMBA-OC-1 was positive. 2) N-myc could be seen in the cytoplasm and perinuclear cytoplasm of tumor cells. The positive rates were: adenomas 33%, adenocarcinomas 77%, sarcomas 100%, mixed müllerian tumors 100% an

Leg amputation and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa: A case report with 15 years of follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is a rare disease characterized by widespread blistering of the skin and mucous membranes, which may ultimately prompt limb amputation. In this context, the outcome of fitting a prosthesis to a chronically wounded stump is not well known. Our patient's experience (with 15 years of follow-up) should contribute to better knowledge of this topic. CASE REPORT: A 37-year-old man presented with severe dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Recurrent skin carcinoma had led to an amputation below the knee. Despite incessant development of blisters on the stump a

Primary Ewing's sarcoma of vulva: a case report and a review of the literature.

Ewing sarcomas/peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors (ES/pPNET) are extremely rare in the vulva. A review of the literature reveals only 14 previously reported possible cases. Here we reported a case of primary extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma (EES) of the vulva in a 37-year-old woman. Characteristic histologic features of ES/pPNET were present in this case, including a monomorphic population of small round blue cells with cytoplasmic glycogen confirmed by periodic acid-Schiff, membrane staining with CD99 and nuclear staining with FLI-1. After surgery, the patient was found to have pulmonar

Multicenter Phase II Clinical Trial of Isolated Lung Perfusion in Patients With Lung Metastases.

BACKGROUND: Up to 66% of patients show local pulmonary disease progression after pulmonary metastasectomy. Regional treatment with isolated lung perfusion (ILuP) may improve local control with minimal systemic adverse effects. The aims of this study were to evaluate local and distant control after ILuP, determine the effect on overall survival compared with historical controls, and confirm the safety and feasibility of ILuP. METHODS: A total of 107 patients with resectable pulmonary metastases of colorectal carcinoma, osteosarcoma, and soft-tissue sarcoma were included in a prospective phase

Extranodal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma of the pharyngeal region: a potential diagnostic pitfall, with literature review.

Extranodal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) of the pharyngeal region is a rare malignant tumor recognized in recent years, with approximately 37 cases so far reported in the literature. It is often not considered at the initial evaluation and may be misdiagnosed in a small biopsy specimen. We report 4 cases of extranodal FDCS, 2 cases in the nasopharynx that were diagnosed as undifferentiated carcinomas because they were characterized by syncytial epithelial cells with sheet or nest-like distribution and 2 cases in the tonsil and soft palate that were characterized by vaguely concentri

Percutaneous Uterine Needle Biopsy with Microscopic and Array-CGH Analyses for Preoperative Sarcoma Diagnosis in Patients with Suspicious Myometrial Tumors on MRI: A Prospective Pilot Study (SARCGYN).

BACKGROUND: Unlike for soft tissue sarcomas, percutaneous biopsy is not validated for uterine myometrial tumors, leading to leiomyosarcoma inadvertent morcellation and overtreatment in childbearing patients. This study aimed to evaluate preoperative percutaneous uterine needle biopsy (PUB) with microscopic examination (M-PUB) and array-comparative genomic hybridization (MCGH-PUB). METHODS: This was a prospective single-center cohort study including all consecutive patients who were candidates for hysterectomy because of suspected uterine leiomyosarcoma on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) who

Immunohistochemical study of childhood rhabdomyosarcomas and related neoplasms. Results of an Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma study project.

The authors assessed a panel of immunohistochemical stains against 109 pediatric solid tumors, primarily rhabdomyosarcomas, under the auspices of the Intergroup Rhabdomyosarcoma Study. Fresh tumor tissue received from participating organizations was divided into portions that were either frozen or fixed in formalin, alcohol, or B5. Immunostaining was performed by the avidin-biotin complex method using monoclonal antibodies to desmin, neurofilaments, vimentin, cytokeratin, and leukocyte common antigen on cryostat sections. Identifying Patterns of Failure and Risk Factors for Recurrence in Patients of Paratesticular Sarcomas: Protocol of a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Para testicular sarcomas are rare mesenchymal tumors that affect patients of all ages. Unlike other sites of sarcoma, they tend to be of lower grade and have a higher propensity for lymphatic spread. Management is hampered by the small number of patients who differ in terms of tumor grade and histology. Current treatment approaches are based on case reports, small case series and literature reviews, resulting in a number of unresolved issues. The consensus on the type of surgery and adjuvant treatment is yet to be determined. The local relapse rates in the scrotum and groin after

Utility of ADC Values for Differentiating Uterine Sarcomas From Leiomyomas: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND. Uterine sarcomas are rare; however, they display imaging features that overlap those of leiomyomas. The potential for undetected uterine sarcomas is clinically relevant because minimally invasive treatment of leiomyomas may lead to cancer dissemination. ADC values have shown potential for differentiating benign from malignant uterine masses. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to perform a systematic review of the diagnostic performance of ADC values in differentiating uterine sarcomas from leiomyomas. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION. Kaleidoscopic Chloroma: An Unusual Case of Myeloid Sarcoma.

We report a 37-year-old male patient who had nonbilious vomiting, no passage of flatus, and recurring abdominal pain. This patient had de novo intestinal myeloid sarcoma (MS), a rare and chameleonic presentation of acute leukemia of myeloid origin. The initial diagnostic evaluation suggested Koch's abdomen, and surgical excision of the bowel was performed with a clinical suspicion of Koch's or lymphoma. However, following extensive evaluation, it was diagnosed as chloroma. The rarity of intestinal MS without a pre-existing hematolymphoid malignancy presents a substantial diagnostic challenge,
