THE CASE FOR AN ETHICS RESEARCH CONSORTIUM FOR EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF STEM CELL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT.

Emerging technologies have gained notoriety as a catalyst of socioeconomic progress, but have also inspired a revolution in ethics. Here, we provide an overview of ethics in stem cell-based therapies and offer a compelling argument for a need to establish an Ethics Research Consortium that will be tasked to assemble an interdisciplinary panel of experts who will apply ethical principles to analyze the social merit relative to the economic incentives of this emerging technology. Milestone studies on cell therapy in Parkinson's disease and stroke over the last two decades were the focus of this

Stem Cell Therapy for Acute/Subacute Ischemic Stroke with a Focus on Intraarterial Stem Cell Transplantation: From Basic Research to Clinical Trials.

Stem cell therapy for ischemic stroke holds great promise for the treatment of neurological impairment and has moved from the laboratory into early clinical trials. The mechanism of action of stem cell therapy includes the bystander effect and cell replacement. The bystander effect plays an important role in the acute to subacute phase, and cell replacement plays an important role in the subacute to chronic phase. Intraarterial (IA) transplantation is less invasive than intraparenchymal transplantation and can provide more cells in the affected brain region than intravenous transplantation. Ho

[Current status of intrauterine adhesion treatment and research progress in stem cell therapy].

Intrauterine adhesions (IUA) are gynecological disorders mainly characterized by menstrual abnormalities and infertility. At present, hysteroscopic adhesiolysis is the primary treatment for IUA; however, the postoperative recurrence rate remains high in patients with moderate to severe disease. In clinical practice, postoperative adjuvant therapies, including pharmacological treatment and intrauterine placement of physical barriers, are commonly applied to promote endometrial regeneration and reduce the risk of re-adhesion. These approaches show certain efficacy in patients with mild IUA, but

[Research Progress on Invasive Fungal Infection after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation --Review].

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is one of the main treatment methods for hematological malignancies. With the continuous improvement and popularization of transplantation technology, it has brought hope for prolonging the lives and improving the survival rate of patients with hematological malignancies. However, postoperative invasive fungal infection (IFI) is the most common infectious complication and the main cause of death, with difficult early diagnosis and extremely high mortality. This paper summarizes the latest research progress on the pathogenic types,

Understanding of tumourigenesis in canine mammary tumours based on cancer stem cell research.

Mammary tumours occur frequently in female dogs, where such tumours exhibit complexity when examined histologically. These tumours are composed not only of proliferative luminal epithelial cells, but also of myoepithelial cells and/or mesenchymal cells with cartilage and osseous tissues in a solitary mass. The origin of this complexed histogenesis remains speculative, but cancer stem cells (CSCs) are likely involved. CSCs possess self-renewing capacity, differentiation potential, high tumourigenicity in immunodeficient mice, and resistance to chemotherapy and radiation. These cells are at the

Translational research and therapeutic applications of stem cell transplantation in periodontal regenerative medicine.

Stem cells have received a great deal of interest from the research community as potential therapeutic "tools" for a variety of chronic debilitating diseases that lack clinically effective therapies. Stem cells are also of interest for the regeneration of tooth-supporting tissues that have been lost to periodontal disease. Indeed, substantial data have demonstrated that the exogenous administration of stem cells or their derivatives in preclinical animal models of periodontal defects can restore damaged tissues to their original form and function. As we discuss here, however, considerable hurd

Artificial Intelligence-Powered Histopathology in Stem Cell Research: Bridging Morphology, Function, and Omics.

The histopathology area is being redefined with the use of artificial intelligence (AI), providing robust tools to help bridge cellular morphology, functional assays, and multi-omics data in stem cell research. The ability of stem cells to undergo self-renewal and differentiation is key in regenerative medicine, but their research requires the careful characterization of morphological and molecular phenotypic traits. Traditional histopathology is invaluable, but its application can be limited by inter-observer variability and restricted scalability. These limitations are circumvented by AI-bas

Application and research progress in composite stem cell materials of pelvic floor reconstruction.

As an important tool for the surgical treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction, the safety of mesh must be guaranteed. Although the short-term curative effect of most synthetic mesh is satisfactory, complications often occur due to its material. Planting stem cells on mesh through specific methods may resolve the problems of mesh with poor biocompatibility or an uncontrollable rate o degradation. Based on recent research, this paper summarizes the research progress of stem cells composited with common mesh materials, such as polypropylene, polylactic acid and acellular matrix.

Functional Thyroid Organoids-Powerful Stem Cell-Derived Models in Basic and Translational Research.

Thyroid organoids, three-dimensional in vitro models derived from stem cells, have emerged as a powerful tool for studying thyroid development, function, and disease mechanisms. These organoids recapitulate the key aspects of the thyroid gland, including the follicular structure, hormone production, and response to stimuli such as to the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). Recent advances in thyroid organoid technology have established the basis for the modeling of development and thyroid diseases, including congenital hypothyroidism (CH), autoimmune conditions like Graves' disease and Hashimot

[The research progress of mesenchymal stem cell induction and differentiation into corneal tissue].

Keratopathy is one of the most important blinding eye diseases in the world. Corneal opacity caused by keratopathy can seriously damage visual function. For example, corneal ulcer can lead to perforation and even loss of the eyeball. Although corneal transplantation is a routine treatment in clinical practice, there are not only a serious shortage of corneal donors in our country, but also various complications after keratoplasty that can not be avoided. In recent years, with the rapid development of regenerative medicine, it has been found that mesenchymal stem cells can differentiate into a

Organoids from pituitary as a novel research model toward pituitary stem cell exploration.

The pituitary is the master endocrine gland, harboring stem cells of which the phenotype and role remain poorly characterized. Here, we established organoids from mouse pituitary with the aim to generate a novel research model to study pituitary stem cell biology. The organoids originated from the pituitary cells expressing the stem cell marker SOX2 were long-term expandable, displayed a stemness phenotype during expansive culture and showed specific hormonal differentiation ability, although limited, after subrenal transplantation. Application of the protocol to transgenically injured pituita

Expert Consensus on the Application of Stem Cells in Psoriasis Research and Clinical Trials.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated, chronic, relapsing, inflammatory, systemic disease induced by individual-environmental interactions, and is often lifelong because of the difficulty of treatment. In recent years, a variety of targeted therapies, including biologics, have improved the lesions and quality of life of most psoriasis patients, but they still do not address the problem of relapse and may be associated with decreased efficacy or adverse events such as infections over time. Therefore, there is an urgent need for breakthroughs in psoriasis treatment and in relapse-delaying and non-phar
