Objectives: We investigated the effects of allicin on nasal mucosa via an experimental study. Methods: In the study, 16 male New Zealand Albino (2.5-4.5 kg) rabbits were used. We describe a method for the synthesis of sulfonamides through the combination of an organometallic reagent, a sulfur dioxide equivalent, and an aqueous solution of an amine under oxidative conditions (bleach). This simple reaction protocol avoids the need to employ sulfonyl chloride substrates, thus removing the limitation imposed by the commercial availability of these reagents. The resultant method allows access to new chemical space, and is also tolerant of the polar functional groups needed to impart favorable physiochemical properties required for medicinal chemistry and agrochemistry. The phenomenon of the reversed diastereoselectivity in CH(2)Cl(2) and THF implied that the reaction may proceed through a chelated cyclic transition state in CH(2)Cl(2) and nonchelated acyclic transition state in THF.

We describe neurochemical abnormalities found in the brains of 2 patients with autopsy-confirmed Hallervorden-Spatz (HS) disease. A general and efficient new method for the asymmetric synthesis of alpha-amino boronate esters has been developed. The key step is the Cu(I)-catalyzed addition of bis(pinacolato)diboron to N-tert-butanesulfinyl aldimines, which proceeds in good yields (52-88%) and with very high diastereoselectivities (>96:2) for a variety of aldimine substrates. This method was applied to an efficient synthesis of bortezomib, a potent alpha-amino boronic acid inhibitor of the proteasome that is in clinical use for the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma.

A convenient and practical approach for glycosyl chloride synthesis has been developed using benzene-1,3-disulfonyl chloride as a mild and efficient chlorinating reagent. Invasive fungal (IF) diseases are a leading global cause of mortality, particularly among immunocompromised individuals. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic further exacerbated this scenario, intensifying comorbid IF infections such as mucormycoses of the nasopharynx. Mutations in the human protein DJ-1 cause early onset of Parkinson's disease.
