Leg length discrepancy following total hip replacement (THR) can contribute to poor hip function. Abnormal gait, pain, neurological disturbance and patient dissatisfaction have all been described as a result of leg length inequality after THR. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of computer navigation in THR can improve limb length restoration and early clinical outcomes. We performed a matched-pair study comparing 48 computer-assisted THR with 48 THRs performed using a traditional freehand alignment method. The same implant with a straight non-modular femoral stem was u

Referring to 22 cases of surgery after frontobasal fractures of different origin with loss of vision, the surgical procedure is discussed with special consideration of the approach, technique and timing of the operation. We conclude that the external rhinological approach through the ethmoid sinus is the best and easiest access in cases of loss of vision with verified fracture or haematoma. A number of patients were operated using CAS (Computer Assisted Surgery)-Systems, a CT-based tool for three-dimensional orientation. It proved to be very useful for the surgeon, saving time and reducing the

Background: Achieving adequate margins in pelvic bone tumor resection remains difficult, as conventional navigation provides no direct three-dimensional margin feedback. We proposed an innovative dangerous region generation method based on 3D image resampling and anisotropic distance transform, integrated with computer-assisted navigation, to enhance surgical margin accuracy. This study aimed to evaluate its oncological safety, functional outcomes, and perioperative efficacy in pelvic tumor surgery. Methods: The study was conducted on 19 patients (8 males, 11 females) with primary pelvic bone

INTRODUCTION: Using mini implants as transitional implants (TIs) for complete arch implant-supported rehabilitations may overcome limitations associated with mucosa-supported surgical guides and facilitate immediate fixed provisionalization. This study aimed to assess the success of TIs in supporting surgical guides for implant placement and fixed provisional prostheses.
METHODS: Patients who received TIs between 2012 and 2023 for a complete arch implant-supported prosthesis were evaluated retrospectively. Patient demographic data, TI functionality in supporting a surgical guide and supportin

BACKGROUND: The Le Fort I maxillary advancement and rotational movement have been adopted to treat patients with cleft-related skeletal Class III pattern and anteromedial cheek soft tissue deficiency, but cleft-specific cheek soft tissue prediction data are insufficient. This 3D imaging-based study addressed the issue.
METHODS: 3D craniofacial soft tissue and bone models were created from 32 consecutive patients who received computer-aided two-jaw orthognathic surgery for the correction of cleft-related Class III deformity and cheek soft tissue deficiency. Using superimposed 3D models, the ch

Skeletally mature patients with cleft lip and palate commonly present with skeletofacial deformities characterized by varying degrees of intrinsic and acquired dentoskeletal and soft tissue abnormalities. These abnormalities are associated with scarring from previous surgeries and the asymmetric midline and facial contour that impose challenges for adequate reconstruction. These patients frequently require 2-jaw orthognathic surgery to improve occlusal function and for correction of facial deformities. In this article, we have detailed a 3-dimensional computer-assisted single-splint 2-jaw orth

INTRODUCTION: Syndesmotic disruption may be difficult to reduce and fix, and malreduction is associated with inferior outcomes. Intraoperative computed tomography (CT) can provide accurate assessment of syndesmotic reduction. We hypothesized that three-dimensional (3-D) computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery (CAOS) with navigation of syndesmotic reduction could avoid malreduction. Our goal was to assess feasibility and accuracy of such a technic in a cadaveric study.
METHOD: Eleven through-the-knee cadaveric specimens were used. Ankle CT as control was obtained prior to intervention. The synde

This retrospective study evaluated the effect of surgical computer-assisted navigation in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis gap arthroplasty. Eighteen patients (25 sides) with bony ankylosis who underwent surgical treatment under computer-assisted navigation (navigation group) from May 2011 to April 2013 were assessed, along with 19 such patients (25 sides) treated without computer-assisted navigation (non-navigation group) from March 2009 to April 2011. The navigation group patients underwent surgery with the preservation of ≥3mm bone thickness in the skull base and anterior wall of the

BACKGROUND: A number of trials have shown improved radiological alignment following total knee arthroplasty using computer-assisted surgery (CAS) compared with conventional surgery. Few studies, however, have looked at functional outcomes.
METHODS: We prospectively studied a cohort of 107 patients that underwent TKA by a single surgeon. Patients were randomised into 3 groups: computer-assisted surgery for both the femur and the tibia, intramedullary guides for both the femur and the tibia, and an intramedullary guide for the femur and an extramedullary guide for the tibia. Patients were follo

In this randomised controlled clinical trial, 2 homogeneous groups of patients with facial asymmetry (n=10 in each) were treated by either classic or computer-assisted orthognathic corrective surgery. Differences between the 2 groups in the alignment of the lower interincisal point (p=0.03), mandibular sagittal plane (p=0.01), and centering of the dental midlines (p=0.03) were significant, with the digital planning group being more accurate.

There may well be a shift towards 3-dimensional orthognathic surgery when virtual surgical planning can be applied clinically. We present a computer-assisted protocol that uses surgical navigation supplemented by an interactive image-guided visualisation display (IGVD) to transfer virtual maxillary planning precisely. The aim of this study was to analyse its accuracy and versatility in vivo. The protocol consists of maxillofacial imaging, diagnosis, planning of virtual treatment, and intraoperative surgical transfer using an IGV display. The advantage of the interactive IGV display is that the

Real-time surgical navigation systems (dynamic computer-aided surgery, d-CAIS) and static guided surgery (static computer-aided surgery, s-CAIS) have been shown to enhance the accuracy of zygomatic implant (ZI) placement. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate and compare the accuracy and risk of complications associated with d-CAIS and s-CAIS in ZI placement. A systematic review of published studies involving more than 4 patients was conducted to assess and compare the accuracy of d-CAIS and s-CAIS in zygomatic implant placement. Only one study included freehand ZI placement

INTRODUCTION: Accurate implant placement with Computer-Assisted Implant Surgery (CAIS) is critical to ensure long-term success. Dynamic-CAIS systems enhance surgical precision through real-time feedback, though comparative data on their accuracy and efficiency remain limited. This study evaluated how different registration methods in d-CAIS systems influence implant placement accuracy and procedural time.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this laboratory study, three registration methods were assessed: ND group, XC group, and XM group. Five experienced operators placed 25 implants per group (75 total

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes of treatment of symptomatic mal- and/or nonunion of midshaft clavicle fractures using radiographically based free-hand open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or computer-assisted 3D-planned, personalized corrective osteotomies performed using patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) and ORIF. The hypotheses were that (1) patients treated with computer-assisted planning and PSI would have a better clinical outcome, and (2) computer-assisted surgical planning would achieve a more accurate restoration of an

PURPOSE: Replacing the temporomandibular joint poses an important challenge to maxillofacial surgeons, and for certain disorders, it represents the treatment's gold standard. Computer-assisted surgery (comprising preoperative virtual planning, virtual intraoperative navigation and 3D printing) is a useful tool for this type of surgery. However, we do not know if and how much the final position of the prosthesis differs, in absolute values, from what was planned virtually in the preoperative phase. We propose a comparative result validation system for temporomandibular joint replacement METHODS

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the trueness of dental implant placement with robotic Computer-Assisted Implant Surgery (r-CAIS), compare it with non-guided and other CAIS approaches, and investigate potential differences between sites in the maxilla and mandible.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search was carried out in Scopus, MEDLINE/PubMed, and Cochrane Library to find prospective clinical studies where r-CAIS was used either as the sole procedure or compared with other CAIS approaches. Studies reporting trueness measured by means of deviation on platform, apex, and angle were i
