Efficacy and Safety of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil for Acne-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Acne vulgaris is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder that begins in adolescents and often persists into adulthood, with substantial psychosocial impact. Tea tree oil (TTO) has been explored as a topical treatment for acne, but clinical evidence for its efficacy and safety remain limited and inconsistent. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizes available clinical data to evaluate TTO's therapeutic effects and safety profile in acne management. PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were systematically searched for clinical studies published up to August 2025 that evaluated TTO

Spreading Allergic Contact Dermatitis to Tea Tree Oil in an Over-the-Counter Product Applied on a Wart.

Tea tree oil is an essential oil obtained by distillation from the leaves and terminal branchlets of Melaleuca alternifolia and is now present in numerous products for body care and self-medication. We report a case of allergic contact dermatitis to tea tree oil in a young man who was applying a lotion containing tea tree oil on a wart localized on the plantar aspect of the right big toe, which had previously been treated with cryotherapy. He developed a severe eczematous eruption on the right foot and the right leg, with subsequent id reactions affecting the right thigh, the contralateral low

Phytotherapy of chronic dermatitis and pruritus of dogs with a topical preparation containing tea tree oil (Bogaskin).

Localised dermatitis, for example unspecific eczema or skinfold pyoderma, is a very common diagnosis in dogs. Typical and impressive complaints are pruritus, erythema, erosion and oozing surface. With respect to the underlying disease dermatological treatment is indicated, usually based on antimicrobial and antipruriginous active substances, it can include transient glucocorticoids. An effective and safe alternative might be a phytotherapeutic topical preparation containing tea tree oil. Tea tree oil exerts both antimicrobial and antipruriginous effects. In an open multicenter study efficacy a

Tea tree oil in inhibiting oral cariogenic bacterial growth an in vivo study for managing dental caries.

Dental caries is considered a major health burden, and preventive strategies are needed to improve oral health. It is suggested that natural essential oils possess anti-plaque formation properties and exhibit strong antimicrobial activity; however, in vivo studies to support these concepts are scarce. We evaluated the effects of tea tree oil (TTO) on caries initiation and progression in vivo to generate supportive data for clinical studies in patients at high risk of caries. We first assessed TTO in vitro against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus, two of the most common oral bact

Antiparasitic Activity of Tea Tree Oil (TTO) and Its Components against Medically Important Ectoparasites: A Systematic Review.

Ectoparasites are pathogens that can infect the skin and cause immense pain, discomfort, and disease. They are typically managed with insecticides. However, the fast-emerging antimicrobial resistance and the slow rate of development of new bio-actives combined with environmental and health concerns over the continued use of neurotoxic insecticides warrant newer and alternative methods of control. Tea tree oil (TTO), as an alternative agent, has shown remarkable promise against ectoparasites in recent studies. To our knowledge, this is the first systematic review to assess preclinical and clini

Fibrous palygorskite clays as versatile nanocarriers for skin delivery of tea tree oils in efficient acne therapy.

This paper presents a facile approach to develop palygorskite (Pal), a fibrous clay mineral, as a delivery system of tea tree oil (TTO) for topical acne therapy. The obtained TTO-Pal composite showed an efficient loading of TTO (27.4%) with a selective accumulation of terpine-4-ol and 1,8-cineole (two major antimicrobial TTO constituents), sustained release of TTO at skin physiological conditions (pH5.4, 32 °C) and superior skin sebum (2.2 g/g) absorbability. In vitro toxicological assessments showed that the Pal incorporation strategy significantly reduced the acute contact toxicity of TTO. T

Effects of gelatin/tea tree oil composite coating on postharvest quality and volatile flavor regulation in strawberry fruits.

Strawberries are highly susceptible to postharvest microbial infection, leading to rapid quality loss. This study developed a gelatin-based film containing tea tree essential oil. The film showed increased opacity, improved mechanical strength, and enhanced barrier properties. Strawberries were stored at 20 ± 1 °C and 85-95% RH for 8 days. The coating reduced decay, maintained firmness, and limited weight loss. It suppressed the accumulation of reactive oxygen species, including superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide, as well as malondialdehyde, delayed the decline of ascorbic acid and total p

Tea tree oil infused Pluronic copolymer/Xanthan scaffolds: Biomarkers profiling and bactericidal impact in simulated wound healing environments.

The human skin, a dynamic defense shield for intricate organs, must heal promptly in the event of injury to safeguard delicate internal organs from infection and environmental stress. The infiltration of microbes into open wounds may exacerbate complications and prolong the healing process. Oral, intravenous, or topical administration of antibiotics are commonly practiced conventional methods, which generally face challenges like optimal dosage, delivery at site of infection, repeated administration, and antibiotic. Therefore, three dimensional (3D) printed scaffolds with sustained degradation
