The dried leaves of Combretum and Terminalia species (Combretaceae) were extracted with acetone, hexane, dichloromethane and methanol. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) plates were developed under saturated conditions and sprayed with 0.2% 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) in methanol for antioxidant screening. Visualization of separated bands exhibiting antioxidant activities enabled the localization and the subsequent identification of the potential active compounds. The acetone and methanol extracts displayed the presence of antioxidant activity after spraying the chromatogram with DPPH.

BACKGROUND: Due to its medicinal properties, Pistacia integerrima is in high demand and is extensively used as a key ingredient in various formulations. However, its popularity has led to its inclusion on the International Union for Conservation of Nature threatened category list. In Ayurvedic texts, such as Bhaishajaya Ratnavali, Quercus infectoria is recommended as a substitute for P. integerrima in different formulations. Additionally, Yogratnakar highlights that Terminalia chebula shares similar therapeutic properties with P. integerrima.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the current study was

BACKGROUND: Plasmodium falciparum malaria is still one of the most deadly pathology worldwide. Efficient treatment is jeopardized by parasite resistance to artemisinin and its derivatives, and by poor access to treatment in endemic regions. Anti-malarial traditional remedies still offer new tracks for identifying promising antiplasmodial molecules, and a way to ensure that all people have access to care. The present study aims to validate the traditional use of Terminalia macroptera, a Malian plant used in traditional medicine.
METHODS: Terminalia macroptera was collected in Mali. Leaves (TML

Terminalia catappa fruit is a neglected red colored plant resource which can be promoted due to its promising organoleptic, nutritional and bioactive compounds. Natural deep eutectic solvents (NADESs) are efficient green solvents used for the extraction of bioactive compounds. In this work, a greener strategy for extracting betalains from T. catappa fruit was implemented using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) combined with four NADESs, including choline chloride: glycerol (CHGLY), choline chloride: ethylene glycol (CHEGLY), choline chloride: lactic acid (CHLA) and choline chloride: acetic

BACKGROUND AND INTRODUCTION: Candida auris (C. auris) is a multidrug-resistant (MDR) fungal pathogen associated with high global mortality and rapidly increasing infection rates, particularly among immunocompromised patients. This growing resistance highlights the urgent need for new antifungal agents. The bark of Terminalia arjuna (T. arjuna) is widely used for treating skin ailments such as ringworm (Tinea infection) and cutaneous candidiasis. The traditional uses of T. arjuna strongly suggest that it may have antifungal activity.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fresh fruits of T. arjuna were collec

Candidiasis, a superficial or systemic infection affecting skin, mucous membranes, and internal organs, is increasingly challenging to treat due to drug-resistant Candida albicans strains. Natural products such as Terminalia chebula (TC) have shown promising in vitro antifungal activity, yet their in vivo efficacy and mechanism of action remain underexplored. Here, homoeopathic formulations of TC were evaluated through a sequential in vitro, in vivo, and in silico approach. In vitro, TC-M exhibited a high total phenolic content (56.5 mg GAE/mL) and potent antioxidant activity (DPPH 32.5 mg GAE

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Terminalia argentea Mart. (Combretaceae), known mainly as "capitão", is a native tree, not endemic, that occurs in the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado and Atlantic Forest in Brazil. Leaf infusion is popularly mentioned by riverine communities that inhabit the microregion of Northern Araguaia (Mato Grosso, Brazil) for the treatment of gastric ulcer, bronchitis and haemorrhage. Considering the wide medicinal use, lack of studies that evaluate the safety of use and the scarcity of phytochemical studies of T. argentea leaves, this work was carried out with the objective o

Increased accumulation of heavy metal ions such as Cr6+ and Co2+ due to release from prostheses and metallic implants has been reported. These metal ions have been shown to affect both resting and activated lymphocytes. Natural remedies towards mitigating the cytotoxic effects of metal ions are clearly warranted. Polyphenolic compounds which are part of hydrolysable tannins from natural plant sources are considered effective in cheating heavy metal ions in a biological system. We have isolated and characterized a polyphenolic compound (ellagic acid) from Terminalia arjuna fruits that has been
