The purpose of this study is to assess the long-term success rate and functional results of limb-sparing therapy in a group of 156 patients with soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities in the Netherlands Cancer Institute, treated according to a standard protocol of surgery and radiotherapy, if indicated. The patients (79 females and 77 males) were treated between 1977 and 1983 by an intended wide local excision with a margin of at least 2 cm. Postoperative radiotherapy was applied in 117 patients; 26 patients had surgery only, including 13 patients who had to be treated by amputation. The tota

Radiation-induced oral mucositis is a complication of head and neck cancer therapy that may persist beyond the expected timelines and become refractory to conventional management, adversely affecting patients' quality of life. Radiation therapy for infiltrative tumors can also result in soft tissue necrosis, which may complicate post-treatment recovery. There are currently no therapies approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for persistent radiation-induced soft tissue injury. Herein, we describe 2 patients with head and neck cancer with recalcitrant radiation therapy-associated oral

Background Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is widely used in the treatment of purulent-inflammatory soft tissue diseases, while negative pressure wound therapy with instillation (NPWT-i) has recently emerged as a promising approach to enhance wound healing. Methods We conducted a prospective, single-center randomized study, including 29 patients with purulent-inflammatory soft tissue infections of the trunk and extremities treated between December 2024 and June 2025. Patients were randomized to conventional NPWT (Group I, n=17) or NPWT-i with normal saline (Group II, n=12) after account

INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction of complex injuries of the extremities with full-thickness wounds is a challenging but important task. If primary closure is not feasible, more complex procedures are required, such as split-thickness skin graft or flap surgery. Recently, several studies have shown good results when combined with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and artificial dermal replacement therapy after extensive surgical debridement and NPWT administration for severe complex wounds accompanied by tendon or bone exposure. However, flap surgery remains the only treatment for wounds in wh

Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are among the most common infections worldwide. They range in severity from minor, self-limiting, superficial infections to life-threatening diseases requiring all the resources of modern medicine. Community (CA) and healthcare (HA) acquired SSTIs are most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus . They have variable presentations ranging from impetigo and folliculitis to surgical site infections (SSIs). Superficial SSTIs may lead to even more invasive infections such as bacteraemia and osteomyelitis. Here we describe the anatomical localization of the d

PURPOSE: To evaluate the influence of boost irradiation for breast conserving therapy on skin and subcutaneous tissue.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 1989 and 1995, 468 patients were treated with breast conserving surgery (quadrantectomy or wide excision with axillary dissection) followed by 50 Gy whole breast irradiation. Among them, fifty-eight patients with positive or close margins were treated with 10 Gy external beam boost irradiation. Skin and subcutaneous soft tissue changes during 5-years of follow-up were examined by inspection and palpation and evaluated using the BCT follow-up for

Co-ablation therapy is playing an increasingly important role in the comprehensive treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors. However, these tumors can originate in various sites and organs throughout the body, exhibiting numerous histological types and complex classifications. To standardize the perioperative management of co-ablation therapy for bone and soft tissue tumors at different anatomical locations, the Expert Committee on Radiological Interventional Therapy, Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO), the Expert Committee on Ablation Therapy, Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CS

Background: Statins have anti-inflammatory properties beyond their lipid-lowering effects, but their impact on skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) remains unclear. This study evaluated whether statins improve clinical outcomes in patients hospitalised with SSTIs. Methods: Adults aged ≥18 years hospitalised with SSTIs at a tertiary hospital in Australia between 1 June 2021 and 31 December 2021 were identified using the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) codes. Patients were categorised into two groups based on statin use at admission.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the leading cause of knee pain in middle-aged and older individuals. Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has been applied to treat patients with KOA to reduce pain and improve function. Patients (n = 123) diagnosed with KOA who received ESWT were selected to participate in this study, and were grouped according to their body mass index (BMI). The treatment parameters were as follows: 8000 pulses, 2.0 bar, 0.25 mJ/mm2, and 6 Hz/s once per week for 8 weeks. The visual analog scale (VAS), Lequesne index, and Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis I

Objective. This study investigated patterns of utilization of radiation therapy (RT) and correlated this with overall survival by assessing patients with well-differentiated soft tissue sarcoma of the extremity (STS-E) in the National Cancer Database (NCDB). Methods. All patients diagnosed with well-differentiated STS-E between 1998 and 2006 were identified in the NCDB. Patients were stratified by use of surgery alone versus use of adjuvant RT after surgery and analyzed using multivariate analysis, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and propensity matching. Results. 2113 patients with well-differentiated

OBJECTIVE: To explore the methods of systemic treatment of defects of skin and soft tissue on the knees after severe trauma or burn.
METHODS: Twenty patients with defects of skin and soft tissue on the knees after severe trauma or burn hospitalized in our center from January 2009 to December 2011. The injury areas on the knees ranged from 5 cm×4 cm to 30 cm×20 cm. The wounds were treated with radical debridement, vacuum sealing drainage, and douche through dripping to control infection in early stage. Then they were covered with transplantation of skin grafts plus flap or only with flap. Tota

PATIENT: Presentation of a 67-year-old female with persisting left hemifacial pain - very intense in the periorbital area, and an ipsilateral red eye. The patient had received analgesics and corticosteroids systemically, but no significant improvement was achieved. She had a history of anterior nodular scleritis in her left eye three years ago. Immunologic screening, especially for Wegener's granulomatosis, was negative. The ophthalmic evaluation revealed a left blind eye with diffuse anterior scleritis, an intercalar staphyloma nasally and superiorly, absolute angle closure glaucoma with rube

BACKGROUND: Current clinical guidelines do not support the use of manual therapy (MT) interventions for Fibromyalgia (FM) patients, despite evidence of positive biochemical, mechanical and psychological effects, and the popularity of hands-on treatments amongst patients. An optimal dose for MT has not been established; this may explain the discrepancies found within the published literature. The aim of this systematic review was to determine whether there is a dose response relationship for MT leading to improvements in core domains of FM symptomology; Pain, Mood, Sleep, Global Measure of Impa

Radiation therapy represents a vital component in the multidisciplinary management of soft tissue sarcomas. Combined with limb-preserving surgery, radiation therapy represents a standard of care treatment option for patients with high-grade sarcomas. Radiation therapy for soft tissue sarcoma continues to evolve with changes in timing, techniques, and targets. Over the past 2 decades, increasing data have supported the role of preoperative radiotherapy with the potential for lower total doses of radiation and improved long-term function coming at the cost of increased wound complications for ce
