Preliminary evaluation of the Polish tissue adhesive "Chirurcoll/Polfa" in urology.

During the past two years, from June 7, 1974 to August 9, 1976, the authors used the Polish tissue adhesive "Chirurcoll/Polfa" in 60 operated patients. The operations were performed on the solitary kidney, on the kidneys of staghorn calculi, in fixation of a floating kidney and, fixation and elevation of the bladder in women with urinary stress incontinence. In all cases the postoperative course was smooth and the results of operation were satisfactory. None of the patients were re-operated and histological examinations were not performed.

[Comparative studies on the breaking strength of tissue adhesives of the butylcyanoacrylate type].

Four tissue adhesives of the butylcyano-acrylate type were tested for breaking strength. The addition of dyes and stabilizers results in an increase in breaking strength. Adhesives coloured with an anthraquinone dye and stabilized with SO2 significantly surpass in breaking strength adhesives that are only coloured or stabilized. Fiomed II (coloured, stabilized with SO2) yields significantly (at P=0.001) better values than Histoacryl blue. Addition of the dye alone seems to exert a better effect on breaking strength than addition of the stabilizer alone. As evidenced by our results, the breakin

Quinone-mediated, tissue-adaptive double-network hydrogel for instant hemostasis and wet-tissue adhesion.

Rapid control of bleeding in complex wounds remains a major clinical challenge. Here, we develop a tissue-adaptive double-network hydrogel that enables instant adhesion to wet tissue and rapid hemostasis. We show that the material can be applied either as an injectable sealant for confined sites or as a conformal patch for large defects. The hydrogel is formed from interpenetrating polymer networks dynamically crosslinked to provide mechanical toughness, rapid self-healing, and shear-thinning injectability. We demonstrate that partial oxidation of catechol groups generates reactive quinone spe

Cell-cell adhesion as a double-edged sword in tissue fluidity.

Cell migration plays a fundamental role in numerous physiological processes, including embryonic development, wound healing, and cancer metastasis. While cell-cell adhesion is known to regulate motion by shaping cell morphology and intercellular force balance, its dynamic, rate-dependent contributions to tissue behavior remain poorly understood. In this study, we examine how the dissipative nature of cell-cell adhesion influences tissue dynamics and collective migration using an extended vertex model with explicit junctional viscosity. Our findings reveal a nontrivial interplay between two dis

A Hydrophilic Underwater Tissue Adhesive With Interfacial Conformity and Viscoelastic Displacement.

Adhesives that exhibit strong adhesion in wet and underwater environments are valuable in many biomedical applications. However, the presence of water substantially hinders contact between adhesives and substrates, leading to adhesion failure. In this study, a hydrophilic underwater adhesive (HUA) that can instantly adhere to wet and underwater tissues was constructed using a step-by-step photocrosslinking strategy to adjust hydrogel viscoelasticity. The HUA synergistically combined two core functional layers: adaptive fitting with interface morphology (i.e. "interface conformal") and the remo

Tissue-adhesive hydrogel optical fiber for peripheral optogenetic neuromodulation.

While hydrogel optical fibers hold promises for visceral peripheral optogenetics, their utility is limited by poor tissue adhesion, unstable light delivery, and micromisplacement under physiological motion, leading to off-target illumination. To address these challenges, we developed tissue-adhesive hydrogel optical fibers (TAHOFs) integrating a poly(HEMA) light-guiding core (ncore = 1.429 ± 0.004) with a bioadhesive cladding (ncladding = 1.343 ± 0.002), achieving dual functionality through refractive index contrast (Δn = 0.086) and robust tissue integration (11.5 ± 1.8 kPa). This architecture

Vascular access device dressing optimisation using tissue adhesive.

BACKGROUND: The care and maintenance of vascular access devices (VADs) encompass all stages from assessment and insertion to ongoing care and removal. Post-insertion, dressings protect the site, aid in haemostasis and provide securement. However, catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSIs) may occur owing to pathogen migration or contamination during dressing changes. Traditional sterile gauze dressings, which require frequent changes, may offer inadequate protection. Tissue adhesives, specifically cyanoacrylate glue, have shown promise in enhancing haemostasis, securement and offering ba

Conductive and Adhesive Granular Alginate Hydrogels for On-Tissue Writable Bioelectronics.

Conductive hydrogels are promising materials in bioelectronics that ensure a tissue-like soft modulus and re-enact the electrophysiological function of damaged tissues. However, recent approaches to fabricating conductive hydrogels have proved difficult: fixing of the conductive hydrogels on the target tissues hydrogels requires the aids from other medical glues because of their weak tissue-adhesiveness. In this study, an intrinsically conductive and tissue-adhesive granular hydrogel consisting of a PEDOT:PSS conducting polymer and an adhesive catechol-conjugated alginate polymer was fabricate

Optimization of tissue adhesive curing time for surgical wound closure.

AIMS: Tissue adhesives (TAs) are a commonly used adjunct to traditional surgical wound closures. However, TAs must be allowed to dry before application of a surgical dressing, increasing operating time and reducing intraoperative efficiency. The goal of this study is to identify a practical method for decreasing the curing time for TAs. METHODS: Six techniques were tested to determine which one resulted in the quickest drying time for 2-octyle cyanoacrylate (Dermabond) skin adhesive. These were nothing (control), fanning with a hand (Fanning), covering with a hand (Covering), bringing operati

Exploiting cell-mediated contraction and adhesion to structure tissues in vitro.

Progress in tissue engineering is now impacting beyond the field of regenerative medicine. Engineered tissues are now used as tools to evaluate the toxicity of compounds or even to enable the modelling of disease. While many of the materials that are used to facilitate tissue growth are designed to enable cell attachment, many researchers consider that the contraction and modification of these matrices by attached cells is not desirable and take measures to prevent this from occurring. Where substantial alignment of the molecules within tissues, however, is a feature of structure the process o

Remodelling of adipose tissue during experimental omental adhesion formation.

BACKGROUND: Peritoneal adhesions are fibrous bands of tissue connecting normally separated organs and frequently involve the fat-laden greater omentum. Remodelling of fibrin-rich exudate under reduced fibrinolytic conditions is thought to initiate adhesion formation following surgery. It is unclear whether adhesions that involve the omentum develop in a similar manner. To improve understanding of omental adhesion formation, adipose tissue distribution, cell proliferation and procollagen type I gene expression were investigated in a murine surgical model and in established omental adhesions fro
