Complete tooth extraction: a case report.

Advanced Trauma and Life Support protocol is used in trauma situations to identify life-threatening injuries, and after those are addressed, it provides a systematic approach to identify minor injuries. A 17-year-old male, who was involved in a motor vehicle accident, was treated for an open toe fracture. He also had an "avulsion injury" to his left hand and was missing a tooth. On follow-up two days later, he was found to have a tooth in his left hand after he presented with cellulitis of a hand wound. He was appropriately treated with foreign body removal, incision and drainage, and antibiot

Developmental disturbances of permanent teeth following trauma to the primary dentition.

The topographic relationship of the apices of the primary teeth to the permanent tooth germs explains the potential for possible developmental disturbances of the permanent teeth after injuries to their predecessors. The anatomical, histologic and clinical aspects of permanent tooth malformation following trauma to the primary teeth are described. One hundred and fourteen children with originally 255 traumatized primary teeth have been re-examined (with an average period of 5.1 years after the trauma) to assess any developmental disturbances of the corresponding permanent teeth. Intrusion injuries of primary incisors. Part II: Sequelae affecting the intruded primary incisors.

Luxation injuries to incisors, including intrusive displacement, occur with a high frequency in the primary dentition. Intrusion injuries are associated with damage to the pulpal and periodontal structures and possible fracture of the alveolar bone. The pulpal tissue of the intruded tooth sustains a severe shock during displacement, which may be reflected later by sequelae ranging from mild discoloration to pulpal necrosis and infection. Disintegration of pulpal tissue may result in periapical tissue inflammation, which in turn may induce developmental disturbances in the germ of the permanent

Therapeutic Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Fibrin in Delayed Replantation of an Avulsed Tooth: A Clinical Case Report on Management and Outcome Assessment.

This case report describes the successful management of a delayed replantation of an avulsed maxillary central incisor with prolonged extraoral dry time (>60 minutes). A 24-year-old patient presented with a dehydrated avulsed tooth, which underwent extraoral root canal treatment and replantation using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to enhance healing. The tooth was splinted for four weeks, and the patient was followed up for two years. The replanted tooth remained asymptomatic, stable, and showed no signs of resorption or infection. This case highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approa

Anterior tooth autotransplantation: a case series.

Tooth autotransplantation is the technique of transplanting embedded, impacted or erupted teeth from one site into another in the same individual. It is relatively common for the anterior segment of the mouth to be affected by traumatic tooth injuries, impacted and/or congenitally missing permanent teeth. Autotransplantation of teeth into the anterior dental arch can provide unrivalled biological solutions when such issues arise in this critical aesthetic zone, particularly for adolescent patients. The combination of meticulous pre-surgical assessment, synergistic interdisciplinary collaborati

The Role of Dendritic Cells during Physiological and Pathological Dentinogenesis.

The dental pulp is a soft connective tissue of ectomesenchymal origin that harbors distinct cell populations, capable of interacting with each other to maintain the vitality of the tooth. After tooth injuries, a sequence of complex biological events takes place in the pulpal tissue to restore its homeostasis. The pulpal response begins with establishing an inflammatory reaction that leads to the formation of a matrix of reactionary or reparative dentin, according to the nature of the exogenous stimuli. Using several in vivo designs, antigen-presenting cells, including macrophages and dendritic

Management of maxillary permanent central incisors with combined injuries sustaining a second dental trauma: A case report with 8-year follow-up.

Root fractures often occur in immature maxillary permanent central incisors and can be combined with other injuries, making treating more difficult and prognosis uncertain. A 10-year-old girl sustaining a second dental trauma came to our hospital. Teeth 11 and 21 experienced root fracture following the first injury 15 months earlier. The second injury resulted in lateral luxation of the coronal fragment of Tooth 11 from the original fracture site and subluxation of Tooth 21. Tooth 11 was repositioned, and both Teeth 11 and 21 were splinted for 3 months. An apical plug was applied to Tooth 21 a

Paediatric dentistry avulsion: case reports.

Children may present at a dental surgery for management of oro-facial injuries. Most general dental practitioners are able to handle straightforward cases but referral may be required for complex injuries. Successful healing following tooth avulsion depends on the amount of damage to teeth and supporting structures, emergency treatment, and follow-up treatment. All of these play a role in the long-term prognosis of avulsed teeth.

Crown-root fracture of fused primary teeth--a case report.

In the primary dentition, traumatic injuries affecting the tooth-supporting structures are common due to increased bone resilience in children. Crown-root fracture, defined as a fracture involving enamel, dentin, and cementum, is uncommon in the primary dentition, comprising only 2% of dental traumas. This article reports the treatment and follow-up of a 2-year-old boy who suffered a traumatic crown-root fracture involving a primary anterior incisor that was fused to a supernumerary tooth.

Alveolar Bone Fracture: Pathognomonic Sign for Clinical Diagnosis.

AIM: Dental injuries, especially luxation and avulsion, are common. Dental trauma can cause alveolar bone fracture that can lead to tooth loss and malocclusion. Single tooth alveolar bone fractures are difficult to identify unless it protrudes through the overlying mucosa and can be visualized. Pain, malocclusion, and tooth mobility provide signs of suspected alveolar bone fractures. Integrity of the proximate alveolar bone should be examined for fractures where avulsion, luxation, or other tooth trauma is detected. Any suggestion of alveolar fractures should be further investigated with an ap

Distant consequences of traumatic injuries to deciduous teeth--a case report.

The ever increasing number of injuries to deciduous teeth in children constitutes a serious problem in paedodontics. Among many factors that facilitate tooth injuries are malocclusions, and most specifically protrusions of upper incisors of Class II/1 according to Angle. This is a case report of a 6-year-old girl with irregularities of upper permanent incisors due to traumatic injuries to deciduous teeth. In view of the ongoing child development processes, medical check-ups following injuries to deciduous teeth should be undertaken once every two or three months. Since such injuries have an im

Matrix WaveTM System for Mandibulo-Maxillary Fixation-Just Another Variation on the MMF Theme?-Part II: In Context to Self-Made Hybrid Erich Arch Bars and Commercial Hybrid MMF Systems-Literature Review and Analysis of Design Features.

STUDY DESIGN: Trends in the utilization of Mandibulo-Maxillary Fixation (MMF) are shifting nowadays from tooth-borne devices over specialized screws to hybrid MMF devices. Hybrid MMF devices come in self-made Erich arch bar modifications and commercial hybrid MMF systems (CHMMFSs). OBJECTIVE: We survey the available technical/clinical data. Hypothetically, the risk of tooth root damage by transalveolar screws is diminished by a targeting function of the screw holes/slots. METHODS: We utilize a literature review and graphic displays to disclose parallels and dissimilarities in design and func

An unusual healing of a replanted permanent lateral incisor.

BACKGROUND: Continued development and healing of an immature permanent tooth root was reported to have occurred. The continued viability of Hertwig's root sheath was thought to be necessary and responsible. Continued development of a tooth root separate from the body of the tooth was reported, but the initiation and development associated with a replanted tooth was not observed. METHODS: A 9-year-old boy sustained an avulsion injury to his upper right lateral incisor. The tooth was replanted within 5-10 minutes of the incident and was splinted approximately 30 minutes after the injury, and th

A step-by step guide for autotransplantation of teeth.

Tooth loss is an adverse consequence of oral diseases and traumatic dental injuries. Although several treatment options exist to treat a missing or hopeless tooth, especially in young individuals, most of the existing alternatives (such as orthodontic treatment, removable or fixed partial dentures, and dental implants) impose a challenge in children due to the nature of the developing jaw bones. Tooth autotransplantation is the replacement of a tooth with another functional tooth within the patient's dentition. Autotransplantation can serve as a promising treatment alternative in cases of toot

Treatment of internal resorption with mineral trioxide aggregates: a case report.

Tooth resorption is a common sequel which follows injuries or irritation to the periodontal ligament and/or tooth pulp. The course of tooth resorption involves an elaborate interaction among inflammatory cells, resorbing cells, and hard tissue structures. The key cells which are involved in resorption are multi-nucleated giant cells. Internal root resorptions are usually non-symptomatic and they are discovered occasionally through periapical radiographs, which reveal very defined and regular outlines. Many techniques and materials have been used to fill internal resorptive defects. Among them,
