Chemsex and chemsex associated substance use among men who have sex with men in Asia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of chemsex has been reported by multiple systematic reviews among men who have sex with men (MSM) focussing predominantly on the Global North. An Asian perspective with meta-analytical evidence is missing. This meta-analysis summarised the prevalence of substance use associated with chemsex, and chemsex activity among MSM and MSM sub-populations in Asia, as well as the likelihood for chemsex among MSM living with or without HIV. METHODS: We utilized PubMed, Web of Science and medRxiv to search for literature describing chemsex and its associated substance use among

Couch-Surfing and HIV Risk Behavior Among Young Adults Experiencing Homelessness.

Young adults experiencing homelessness (YAEH) are significantly more likely to engage in HIV risk-related sexual behavior relative to their stably housed peers, and their social support networks can influence their engagement in these behaviors. However, few studies have investigated HIV risk behaviors among YAEH who are "couch-surfing," a highly prevalent network-based survival strategy that involves cycling through temporary, informal housing arrangements. The current study utilizes survey data collected from 461 YAEH accessing drop-in center services in Los Angeles, California, between Sept

Mpox among people reporting being unhoused or engaging in transactional sex within a multijurisdictional case-control study of sexually and gender minoritized individuals- United States, August 2022-March 2024.

BACKGROUND: Since May 2022, a clade II multinational mpox outbreak has disproportionately affected certain sexually and gender minoritized individuals (SGM). Beyond infectious disease risks, SGM populations face social and structural inequities that may increase their likelihood of experiencing homelessness or engaging in transactional sex (TS). Research on the impact of homelessness and TS on risk of mpox is limited, especially among SGM. This study examined the risk of mpox among people who reported homelessness and/or TS from a survey of SGM participants. METHODS: We conducted a secondary

The role of food security in increasing adolescent girls' agency towards sexual risk taking: qualitative findings from an income generating agricultural intervention in southwestern Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Food insecurity is an important underlying driver of HIV risk and vulnerability among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa. In this region, adolescents account for 80% of all new HIV infections. The primary purpose of this analysis is to understand perceived mechanisms for how a multisectoral agricultural intervention influenced sexual risk taking among HIV-affected adolescents in southwestern Kenya. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured, individual interviews with 34 adolescent-caregiver dyads who were participants in Adolescent Shamba Maisha (NCT03741634), a sub-study of adolescent

Recovery Experiences from Childhood Sexual Abuse among Black Men: Historical/Sociocultural Interrelationships.

Childhood sexual abuse (CSA) can result in devastating and long lasting consequences. Differences in the nature of the abuse differ for males and females and this difference potentially influences recovery. However, studies of recovery from CSA, especially among men, are relatively few, especially for ethnic minority men. The study explored the lived experience of recovery from CSA among African-Caribbean Black male survivors of CSA living in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. The theoretical framework was the transactional model of stress and coping, which proposes that stress

Patterns of Sexual Behaviors and Sexual Partner Characteristics as Predictors of Perceived HIV Risk and HIV Status Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Kenya.

Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Kenya remain at disproportionate risk of HIV acquisition. While individual risk factors are well-documented, fewer studies examine how these factors co-occur in distinct profiles or how such profiles relate to perceived HIV risk and HIV status. We analyzed data from 2,810 AGYW (aged 15-24) reporting ≥ 1 male sex partner in the prior 12 months in the 2018 Kenya Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (KENPHIA). Latent class analysis identified patterns of condom use, transactional sex, alcohol use, partner type, age disparity, and partner HIV status. As

What are nurse practice assessors' priorities when assessing student mental health nurses? A qualitative content analysis.

BACKGROUND: UK healthcare policy has observed over a decade of changes that has focussed on healthcare staffs' professional values as a marker for safe, high-quality care In 2018 the regulatory body for nursing and midwifery introduced several new proficiencies, with an emphasis on physical health assessment. However, a global debate has since surfaced regarding the generification of nurse education, which has been thought to have eroded field specific skills in mental health nursing. AIM: To explore the priorities of practice assessors, articulated within the open comments written within onl

Preventing violence against refugee adolescent girls: findings from a cluster randomised controlled trial in Ethiopia.

INTRODUCTION: Interpersonal violence is a critical public health concern in humanitarian contexts, but evidence of effective violence prevention programmes targeting adolescent girls is lacking. We investigated the efficacy of a life skills and safe spaces programme to reduce adolescent girls' experiences of interpersonal violence in a refugee setting. METHODS: In this two-arm, single-blinded, cluster randomised controlled trial, we recruited 919 Sudanese and South Sudanese girls ages 13-19 years residing in refugee camps in Ethiopia. Girls were divided into 31 clusters, with 457 and 462 part

Hydrogen-driven digital transactions market under carbon oracles and green transportation in energy sustainable societies under social stakeholders.

The decarbonization of urban energy communities increasingly requires coordinated integration of hydrogen, electricity, heat, and mobility under market-regulated environments. This study develops a hydrogen-driven digital transactions market embedded within a clustered, integrated energy hub architecture, where digital transactions markets, such as carbon emission trading (CET) and green certificate trading (GCT) mechanisms, are endogenously incorporated into operational scheduling. The framework coordinates hydrogen-diversified utilization, dual electric-hydrogen transportation systems, multi

Associations Between Extreme Weather Events, Resource Insecurities, and HIV Vulnerabilities Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Kenya: Latent Profile Analysis Findings.

Extreme weather events (EWE) may elevate HIV risk across Sub-Saharan Africa by worsening resource insecurities, yet limited research has included adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). We examined associations between EWE exposure, resource insecurities, and HIV vulnerabilities among AGYW in Kenya. We conducted a community-based cross-sectional survey with a purposive sample of AGYW aged 16-24 in Nairobi and Kisumu. We used latent profile analysis (LPA) to identify resource insecurity profiles based on food, water, and sanitation access; multinomial logistic regression to assess associations

Impact of Interprofessional Teamwork on Aligning Intensive Care Unit Care with Patient Goals: A Qualitative Study of Transactive Memory Systems.

Rationale: Although aligning care with patient goals is fundamental to critical care, this process is often delayed and leads to conflict among patients, families, and intensive care unit (ICU) teams. Interprofessional collaboration within ICU teams is an opportunity to improve goal-aligned care, yet this collaboration is poorly understood. A better understanding of how ICU team members work together to provide goal-aligned care may identify new strategies for improvement. Objectives: Transactive memory systems is a theory of group mind that explains how high-performing teams use a shared memo
