Transurethral En Bloc Resection Versus Standard Resection of Bladder Tumour: A Randomised, Multicentre, Phase 3 Trial.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Conventionally, standard resection (SR) is performed by resecting the bladder tumour in a piecemeal manner. En bloc resection of the bladder tumour (ERBT) has been proposed as an alternative technique in treating non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The objective of this study is to investigate whether ERBT could improve the 1-yr recurrence rate of NMIBC, as compared with SR. METHODS: A multicentre, randomised, phase 3 trial was conducted in Hong Kong. Adults with bladder tumour(s) of ≤ 3cm were enrolled from April 2017 to December 2020, and followed up until

Comparison of thulium laser en bloc resection of bladder tumor and transurethral resection of bladder tumor on catheter-related bladder discomfort- a single center experience.

OBJECTIVE: To Compare the effects between thulium laser en bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) and conventional transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) on catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) in patients with bladder cancer. METHODS: Between January 2022 and December 2024, we retrospectively collected the demographic and clinical data for patients with bladder cancer. A total of 79 patients in the conventional TURBT group and 58 patients in the thulium laser ERBT group completed the study. Both demographic and outcome variables were recorded; and we compared the incidence an

[Initial Experience of Photodynamic Diagnosis-Assisted Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (PDD-TURBT)].

Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) using 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) is expected to be useful in preventing oversight of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and in reducing the intravesical recurrence rate after transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). We report our initial experience with28 cases of PDD-assisted TURBT (122 samples) performed at our hospital from February 2018 to April 2019. The median age of the patients was 74.5 years, and 18 of the 28 were primary cases. Each patient underwent TURBT with oral administration of 5-ALA 20 mg/kg 3 hours before endoscopic examination

[Perioperative complications of transurethral resection of bladder tumor in patients receiving antithrombotic therapy].

We examined perioperative complications of transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) in patients receiving antithrombotic therapy. We retrospectively studied 276 patients who underwent TURBT in our institute from January 2007 to March 2013. The study group consisted of 105 patients (38%) who were receiving antithrombotic agents, and the other 171 patients (62%) without antithrombotic agents were assigned to the control group. The period of discontinuation of antithrombotic agents complied with our institutional rule. The most frequently used agent was aspirin (69 patients : 66%), follow

Implementation challenges of single-instillation intravesical chemotherapy following transurethral resection of bladder tumor.

INTRODUCTION: Despite strong evidence supporting its effectiveness, single, immediate instillation of intravesical chemotherapy (SI-IVC) following transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) remains vastly underutilized in managing low- and intermediate-risk non - non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). This review addresses the gap between evidence and practice in adopting this cost-effective, recurrence-reducing intervention and offers potential solutions through an implementation science approach. AREAS COVERED: We examined the clinical benefits of SI-IVC based on landmark trials

Systemic amyloid A amyloidosis of the bladder after transurethral resection of urothelial carcinoma.

INTRODUCTION: Amyloid A amyloidosis of the bladder is not a major disease. We report a patient with systemic amyloid A amyloidosis of the bladder after transurethral resection of urothelial carcinoma. CASE PRESENTATION: An 87-year-old Japanese man had bladder carcinoma. He was followed up regularly with cystoscopy. Cystoscopy revealed multiple polypoid tumors 6 months after the first transurethral resection of urothelial carcinoma. Pathologic specimens contained the amyloid A component. He had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, valvular disorders, and arrhythmias. His cardiac disease may have resul

The risk factors of urinary tract infection after transurethral resection of bladder tumors.

PURPOSE: Few studies mention the necessity of antimicrobial prophylaxis (AMP) for transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and the risk factors for postoperative urinary tract infections (UTIs) after TURBT. To evaluate the necessity of AMP and to detect the risk of UTIs, we examined the perioperative clinical factors. METHODS: 687 patients who underwent TURBT between 2006 and 2017 at Hiroshima Prefectural Hospital were examined retrospectively. We defined the postoperative UTIs as febrile UTIs (≥ 38 °C). The AMP for the TURBT that we used was mostly cephalosporin generation 1. The ass

Conservative Management of Intraperitoneal Bladder Injury During the Transurethral Resection of a Bladder Tumor: A Case Report.

Bladder injury can be intraperitoneal or extraperitoneal due to multiple mechanisms, with surgical repair as the mainstream management in intraperitoneal injuries. We present a case of iatrogenic intraperitoneal bladder injury during transurethral resection of a bladder tumor located in the superior bladder wall. Many cases reported the role of conservative management of intraperitoneal injuries that included intraperitoneal drain, urethral catheterization, and continued monitoring of vital signs and serial abdominal examination. Still, conservative management of intraperitoneal bladder injury

[Low pressure resection--a new method for prevention of complications in transurethral resection of bladder neck adenoma].

The advanced age and resulting polymorbidity of our patients are a great risk in the post-operative treatment of adenomas of the vesical cervix. TUR with low-pressure irrigation is clearly superior to the continuous-rinse resectoscope due to the greater reliability of its suction and is a good method of operative therapy for these old patients due to the low stress it places on them, and can thus clearly improve the quality of their lives.

Recurrent inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) of bladder managed with transurethral resection; case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Bladder IMTs are uncommon subtypes of sarcoma arising from mucosal epithelium and mesentery. They can occur various organs like eyes, nose, mouth, digestive tract, lungs, and genital and urinary tracts [1]. Typically benign, these tumors can occasionally exhibit local aggression. Diagnosis challenging due to its pathology confusion with bladder sarcomas, immunohistochemical analysis may be necessary to differentiate [6]. Here we report a 52 years old lady with recurrent bladder IMT who was treated with transurethral resection of bladder tumor(TURBT). This case repo

Blue versus white light for transurethral resection of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

RATIONALE: Disease recurrence and progression remain major challenges in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Blue light-enhanced transurethral resection of bladder cancer (TURBT) is an approach to improve staging and achieve a complete resection of NMIBC. Since the first version of this review was published in 2021, new evidence on this topic has become available. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of blue light-enhanced TURBT compared to white light-based TURBT in the treatment of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. SEARCH METHODS: We searched several medical literat

Bladder Amyloidosis With Pulmonary Lesions: A Case of Spontaneous Remission After Transurethral Resection.

INTRODUCTION: Bladder amyloidosis is a rare condition characterized by amyloid fibril deposition in the bladder, often mimicking bladder cancer. Diagnosis requires histological analysis of the examination, and treatment typically involves transurethral resection. CASE PRESENTATION: An 80-year-old male presented with gross hematuria. Computed tomography suggested bladder cancer with pulmonary metastases. However, due to the extent of the bladder tumor, complete resection was not feasible, and only a limited transurethral resection was performed for diagnostic purposes. Pathological examination

Surgeon experience in second-look transurethral resection of bladder cancer - a prospective study.

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) is crucial in the treatment of bladder tumors and when incorrectly performed can cause staging mistakes. To avoid these errors, a second resection is recommended in selected cases. The aim of this study is to evaluate the surgeon's ability to predict histologically complete primary resection of newly diagnosed bladder tumors avoiding the need for a second TURBT. METHODS: This is a prospective, observational study involving 47 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed bladder tumors who had previously undergone prima
