Comparative evaluation of nurse-led versus traditional trauma services in plastic surgery: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Traditional trauma care often experiences significant delays in surgical readiness due to fragmented coordination between surgical and nursing teams. Nurse-Led Trauma Services (NLTS) have emerged as a collaborative alternative to optimize clinical efficiency. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of an NLTS model compared to Traditional Trauma Services (TTS) in an emergency plastic surgery department. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 248 patients (NLTS: n = 107; TTS: n = 141) admitted to a tertiary emergency center in China for plastic surgical intervention

A Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Study on Trauma-Informed Care Among Nurses Working in a Hospital in Lucknow District.

Background Trauma-informed care (TIC) is a framework that acknowledges the widespread impact of trauma and integrates knowledge about its effects into healthcare practices. As frontline caregivers, nurses frequently encounter patients with trauma histories. Their knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding TIC are crucial in ensuring compassionate, effective, and patient-centered care. However, there is limited research assessing the understanding and implementation of TIC among nurses in Indian healthcare settings, particularly in Lucknow District. Materials and methods A cross-sectiona

Racial Differences in Trauma Outcomes After a Mindfulness App Intervention in Frontline Nurses: A Secondary Data Analysis.

Empirical understanding of the effects of mindfulness-based interventions for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) across different racial groups remains limited. This secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial examined racial differences in trauma-related outcomes among U.S. frontline nurses traumatised by the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants (N = 56) were randomly assigned to either the MABSA intervention (Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Smartphone App), a mindfulness app grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or a wait-list control group. Outcomes included PTSD symptoms, e

The Role of Childhood Trauma, Bullying and Parental Bonding in Adolescent Social Phobia: A Mental Health Nursing Perspective in Indonesia.

BACKGROUND: Social phobia is prevalent in adolescence and may be shaped by early adversity and family context; Southeast Asian evidence remains limited. OBJECTIVES/AIMS/HYPOTHESES: This study aimed to examine whether childhood trauma, bullying experiences, and parental bonding predict adolescent social phobia. Demographic variables (age and gender) were also examined descriptively. We hypothesized that higher levels of trauma and bullying, as well as non-optimal parental bonding, would be associated with greater social phobia. DESIGN: Quantitative Exploratory. A QuEST for Nursing Clinical Activity Exposure: Comparison of the Military Treatment Facility and a Civilian Level I Trauma Center.

INTRODUCTION: Most military nurses work day-to-day in Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs), caring for a low volume of non-trauma patients until tasked to deploy. Military-civilian partnerships (MCPs) were established to increase opportunities for trauma exposure and high acuity patient care that are often lacking at MTFs but are essential for deployment readiness. In a near-peer conflict, deployed medical teams can expect to hold patients for days before evacuation and must be proficient in prolonged casualty care. Current Air Force nurse readiness checklists do not quantify expeditionary ski

How the Camel's Back Breaks: A Scoping Review of Cumulative Occupational Distress and the Conceptual Absence of Micro-Trauma in Nursing.

Background/Objectives: Nursing involves repeated exposure to emotionally, morally, and psychologically distressing experiences, yet the mechanisms through which low-intensity occupational stressors accumulate and contribute to psychological harm remain conceptually unclear. This scoping review examined how the nursing literature conceptualises the cumulative effects of repeated occupationally distressing experiences and identified the conceptual gap created by the absence of a unifying term such as micro-trauma. Methods: A scoping review was undertaken to map concepts used to describe cumulati

Perception of risk in massive transfusion as it relates to fetal outcomes: A survey of surgeons and nurses at one American trauma center.

BACKGROUND: The use of blood products early in the resuscitation of bleeding trauma patients is widely accepted, but made difficult by limited supplies of D- red blood cell (RBC)-containing products. Use of D+ RBC-containing products would alleviate this issue, but could lead to alloimmunization. Risk associated with transfusing D+ RBC in emergency bleeding situations is being reconsidered. The level of concern surrounding emergency transfusion as it relates to future fetal harm was surveyed among surgeons and nurses. METHODS: Faculty and staff in the Departments of Surgery and Nursing were s

"When, why, and at what cost?" Towards a trauma-informed pedagogy for learning about family violence in nurse education.

Learning how to recognise and respond to disclosures of family violence is a core component of nurse education, yet this learning often occurs in classrooms and clinical environments where some students and educators may themselves be survivors. Across nursing programs, pedagogical approaches often emphasise recognising and responding to patients affected by family violence yet give limited attention to the vulnerabilities of students and academic faculty or the potential for re-traumatisation when the topic arises in educational settings. Using a trauma-informed lens, we examine the ethical d
