Paraganglioma of the Urinary Bladder: A Rare Cause of Hypertension and Urinary Tract Infections.

Pheochromocytoma is a neoplasm, which develops from cells of the chromaffin tissues that are derived from the ectodermic neural system and mostly situated within the adrenal medulla. Approximately 15% of pheochromocytoma cases arise from extra-adrenal chromaffin tissue. Pheochromocytoma of the bladder is rare and accounts for less than 0.06% of all bladder neoplasms and less than 1% of all pheochromocytomas. We report a case of a young woman who presented with uncontrolled hypertension, recurrent urinary tract infections and micturition attacks and was found to have a metastatic bladder paraga

Signet ring cell carcinoma in a Schistosoma-infested bladder: case report and histochemical study.

A case of signet ring cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder with concomitant Schistosoma haematobium infection is reported with a histochemical study of mucous secretion. This rare kind of tumor differentiation in Schistosoma-related neoplasms may suggest that the tumor-promoting stimuli, acting on reserve cells of bladder epithelium, do not determine the tumor differentiation pattern as strictly as currently thought.

Malignant transformation in endometriosis of the urinary bladder: case report of clear cell adenocarcinoma.

Clear cell adenocarcinoma of the urinary bladder is a very rare neoplasm. This mullerian tumor frequently arises from ovarian endometriosis. We present a case of clear cell adenocarcinoma arising from endometriosis in the bladder; this is only the third such case report in the English language literature. Endometriosis involves the bladder in only approximately 1% of patients with this disease. The patient is a 40 year-old woman who has a history of adenocarcinoma arising from endometrial tissue in the bladder. Her tumor invaded the rectum, necessitating an anterior resection of the rectum as

[Inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder diagnosed using 3D-CT cystoscopy].

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder is a rare benign entity of the submucosal stroma that can easily be mistaken for a malignant neoplasm both clinically and histologically. We report a case of an inflammatory pseudotumor of the urinary bladder in which 3D-CT cystoscopy aided in the diagnosis. A 38-year-old man presented with persistent miction pain, penile pain, and dysuria despite symptomatic treatment at another hospital. Cystoscopic examination, MRI and 3D-CT cystoscopy revealed a 3.0 X 3.0 cm wide-based nonpapillary tumor located at the anterior dome of the urinary bladder. Tr

Primary combined carcinoid and adenocarcinoma of the ileum associated with transitional carcinoma of the bladder. Single case report.

Composite neoplasms, carcinoid and adenocarcinoma have been reported to occur in several parts of the body, including the stomach, ampulla of Vater, large bowel, lung, and urinary bladder. Here we report a case of a 74-year-old male with a composite carcinoid-adenocarcinoma of the ileum associated with a transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The microscopical examination of the composite tumor showed an admixture of typical carcinoid tumor and moderately a differentiated adenocarcinoma. Immunohistochemically, the two components showed clear-cut differentiations. A review of the literatur

Influence of functional group substitutions on the carcinogenicity of anthraquinone in rats and mice: analysis of long-term bioassays by the National Cancer Institute and the National Toxicology Program.

The carcinogenic activities of anthraquinone and six derivatives were compared and contrasted. Studies included representatives of amino, alkyl, nitro, hydroxy, or halogen-containing anthraquinones, with the purpose of uncovering general structure-activity relationships. Anthraquinone, 2-aminoanthraquinone, 1-amino-2-methylanthraquinone, 2-methyl-1-nitroanthraquinone,1-amino-2,4-dibromoanthraquinone, 1,4,5,8-tetraaminoanthraquinone, and 1,3,8-trihydroxy-6-methylanthraquinone (of varying purities) were administered via feed to Fischer 344/N rats and B6C3F, mice. Eosinophilic cystitis mimicking bladder tumor: A case report.

Eosinophilic cystitis (EC) is a rare inflammatory condition characterized by eosinophilic infiltration into the bladder wall. It often presents symptoms common to urological issues such as urinary tract infections, hematuria, bladder stones, or bladder neoplasms. Here, we describe a case of a 44-year-old male veteran with a history of multiple tuberculosis episodes who presented to the Emergency Department with dysuria, suprapubic pain, and gross hematuria. Initial imaging and cystoscopy concerned bladder neoplasia; however, subsequent pathological evaluation showed EC. This case underscores t

Ultrasonographic study of feline lower urinary tract diseases: 32 cases.

The objective of the study was to describe the ultrasonographic findings of urinary bladder urolithiasis and to determine the diagnostic value of the technique in feline lower urinary tract diseases (LUTD). Physical examination of the urinary system and routine clinicopathological analysis of the blood and urine were performed on 32 cats presented with clinical symptoms of LUTD. Cystosonography was done on all of the cats, while plain radiography was performed on 8 and double contrast cystography on 2 cats. Sonography of the bladder provided the following diagnoses: urolithiasis and chronic cy

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma presenting as acute renal failure.

Lymphoma of the urinary bladder is quite rare, accounting for a small percentage of all bladder neoplasms. Here we discuss the case of a 68-year-old male patient who initially presented with acute renal failure and severe bilateral hydronephrosis on ultrasound. Cross-sectional imaging further revealed a diffusely thickened bladder wall with extensive retroperitoneal and mesenteric lymphadenopathy. Bladder biopsies ultimately led to a diagnosis of stage IV chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma (CLL/SLL). This is a rare instance of upper tract dilatation being the first sign of

Silent Threats: A Narrative Review of Urinary Bladder Cancer in Dogs and Cats-Epidemiology and Risk Factors.

Urinary bladder neoplasms are clinically relevant in dogs and cats and are also common in humans, all of which may share exposure to environmental factors that influence disease risk. In Veterinary Medicine, however, their etiological determinants remain poorly defined. Urinary bladder neoplasia range from non-invasive lesions limited to the mucosa to invasive forms that infiltrate the muscular layer, which are more aggressive and metastatic. In dogs, invasive urothelial carcinoma (UC) represents the most frequently diagnosed type, while in cats, it is less common but displays similar biologic

Bladder cavernous hemangioma after pelvic radiotherapy in a female patient: A case report and literature review.

INTRODUCTION: Hemangiomas are benign tumor formations of capillaries and blood vessels which are commonly found in various organs. However they are extremely rare in urinary bladder accounting for only 0.6% of all urinary bladder tumors. The differentiating of these benign tumors from malignant neoplasms are important since they have extremely different prognostic features as well as therapeutic strategies. Here we reported a female patient diagnosed with bladder cavernous hemangioma (BCH) after recent pelvic radiotherapy for the cervical cancer and reviewed relevant literatures. CASE PRESENT

Myeloid sarcoma of the urinary bladder and epididymis as a primary manifestation of acute myeloid leukemia with inv(16).

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) of the lower urinary tract is rare. We describe a 47-year-old man with hematuria, who was subsequently found to have MS involving bladder and epididymis. The neoplasm was composed predominantly of blasts that expressed CD68, CD117, myeloperoxidase, and lysozyme, with occasional immature eosinophils. Although blood and bone marrow examinations showed no morphologic evidence of leukemia, conventional cytogenetic studies of marrow demonstrated inv(16)(p13q22) in 4 of 20 metaphases; fluorescence in situ hybridization of the bladder neoplasm also showed inv(16). Myxoid leiomyosarcoma of the urinary bladder.

A 16-year-old male patient with hematuria was found to have a 3-cm mass on the right posterolateral wall of the urinary bladder. After a biopsy specimen disclosed a myxoid tumor, a partial cystectomy was performed. The specimen contained a gelatinous tumor that, on microscopic examination, was a myxoid leiomyosarcoma similar to the neoplasm recently described in the uterus and several other locations. This tumor, which is the first of its type (to our knowledge) reported to occur in the bladder, must be distinguished from other neoplasms and nonneoplastic lesions that occur in this organ. The

Primary Ureteral Thyroid Transcription Factor 1-Positive Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Upper urinary tract neoplasms comprise only 5% of urinary malignancies overall, the overwhelming majority showing an urothelial histology. Nonurothelial lesions represent 1.9% of upper tract neoplasms, and small cell carcinomas (SmCCs) only account for a minute fraction of them, with few cases reported in the literature to date. In the genitourinary tract, these lesions are most frequently found in the urinary bladder, where they tend to show a mixed histology with a characteristic small cell neuroendocrine component that is positive for chromogranin A, synaptophysin, and CD56 immunostains. Bladder leiomyoma presenting as uterine pedunculated leiomyoma.

Bladder leiomyoma is a rare benign mesothelial tumor that is more commonly reported in women. Most patients present with frequent urination or obstructive urinary symptoms. Here, we portray a 50-year-old woman who presented to the clinic with abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Imaging showed a lobulated mass at the posterior aspect of the urinary bladder. The pathology of the surgery demonstrated a benign mesenchymal neoplasm composed of interlacing bundles of smooth muscle fibers with a whirling pattern, which eventually confirmed bladder leiomyoma. Although this tumor is benign, it can be
