Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy with Granulomatous Uveitis Unmasking Crohn's Disease.

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy (APMPPE) revealing Crohn's disease in an adolescent, and to discuss potential immunopathological links between these two inflammatory conditions. METHODS: Case-Report. RESULTS: A 16-year-old boy presented with a rapidly progressive bilateral central vision blurring. Examination revealed bilateral granulomatous hypertensive anterior uveitis, mild vitritis, and multifocal placoid lesions involving posterior poles. Multimodal imaging demonstrated active choriocapillaritis mimicking atypical APMPPE, with

CRB1-associated retinal dystrophy presenting as self-resolving opsoclonus and posterior uveitis.

PURPOSE: To describe the unusual case of inflammatory CRB1-associated retinal dystrophy that initially presented with self-resolving opsoclonus. OBSERVATIONS: We report the case of a now 2-year-old female who developed opsoclonus without myoclonus at the age of 4 months. An extensive workup for neuroblastoma and other systemic diseases was unremarkable, and all unusual eye movements self-resolved at age 10 months. Twenty-one months after initial presentation, she began having reduced visual behaviors, and comprehensive ophthalmic exam at that time revealed recurrent saccadic intrusions as wel

Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy and granulomatous uveitis following influenza vaccination.

PURPOSE: To report a case of acute placoid multifocal posterior pigment epitheliopathy (APMPPE) following influenza vaccination. The patient exhibited granulomatous uveitis during the recovery phase. OBSERVATIONS: A woman in her thirties developed flu-like symptoms seven days after receiving an influenza vaccination. Approximately 2 weeks later, the patient reported with conjunctival injection, blurred vision, and pain in her left eye. She was examined in our clinic, and the best-corrected visual acuity was 20/15 OD and 20/20 OS. Multiple whitish spots were observed bilaterally in the deep re

Posterior uveitis: an under-recognized adverse effect of pamidronate: 2 case reports.

Ocular adverse effects of pamidronic acid are rare but well documented. Pamidronate, an inhibitor of bone resorption used primarily in the management of tumor-induced hypercalcemia and Paget's disease, is reported to cause conjunctivitis, anterior uveitis, and infrequently episcleritis and scleritis. It is hypothesized that an allergic or immunologic phenomenon caused by drug-indued immune complex formation is at fault. The reason why the uvea is a target organ is unclear. The acute inflammatory response seems unrelated to the dose of the drug, the way of administration, or the activity of Pag

Posterior Vitrectomy in Uveitis: Experience from a Tertiary Referral Center in Colombia.

PURPOSE: To describe the outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in patients with uveitis, including changes in visual acuity, inflammatory control, and macular edema status, in a sample from Colombia. METHODS: A retrospective observational study was conducted on 27 eyes from 27 patients with uveitis who underwent PPV at a tertiary referral center. PPV was not performed as primary treatment for active uveitis; instead, it was undertaken only when postponement posed a risk of irreversible visual loss due to structural complications or when diagnostic clarification was urgently required. Development of Posterior Uveitis in Behçet Syndrome Patients with Vitreous Cells at Baseline.

PURPOSE: The prognostic importance of vitreous cells (VC) in patients with Behçet syndrome (BS) is unknown. We aimed to determine the frequency of developing posterior uveitis (PU) and any additional risk factors associated with the development of PU in BS patients with VC at diagnosis. METHODS: The charts of 572 consecutive BS patients who were registered between 2010 and 2012 were reviewed. Among the patients with a follow-up of ≥2 years, we included 110 patients with VC in one or both eyes and 147 patients without any eye findings in both eyes at baseline and compared them for the developm

Cataract extraction in uveitis: comparison of aphakia and posterior chamber lens implantation.

We reviewed the charts of 39 patients (45 eyes) with uveitis who underwent cataract extraction (intracapsular or extracapsular) with or without implantation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, between 1981 and 1990. The nine eyes with Fuchs' iridocyclitis in which an IOL was implanted had good visual results and few postoperative complications. The 18 eyes with uveitis other than Fuchs' iridocyclitis that received an IOL did not show a greater risk of postoperative complications than those left aphakic (n = 17), and the postoperative visual a

[Uveitis, glaucoma and hemorrhage syndrome caused by hard lenses in the posterior chamber].

A study was made of twelve cases with uveitis, glaucoma and hyphema (UGH) caused by rigid intraocular posterior chamber implants. Three of these patients were female and nine were males. The syndrome started in 75% of the cases two years after having been operated. The patients were followed for an average time of 42 months. Four patients responded to medical treatment. Eight patients required surgery. This syndrome is caused by the irritation and escoriation of the ciliary body at the inferior point which supports the hard lens. Serious complications arise from the removal of the lens. The au
