Vascular Access Device Infections: Current Management Practices and the Role of Multidisciplinary Teams at a Large Hospital in Northern Italy.

Introduction: Vascular access device (VAD)-associated infections, including catheter-related (CRBSI) and catheter-associated bloodstream infections (CABSI), present significant challenges in patient care. While multidisciplinary VAD teams (VATs) are equipped with protocols for managing these infections, adherence to these guidelines in real-life practice is inconsistent. This study aims to evaluate the alignment between actual VAD infection management practices and VAT-recommended protocols. Methods: We conducted a retrospective, single-center study at Luigi Sacco Hospital (May 2021-October 20

Substance use risk assessment: assessing the risk of vascular access device tampering in patients with a history of drug use.

AIM: Intravenous (IV) drug use is an increasing public health concern impacting the care of hospitalized patients. Identifying patients at risk of nonprescribed use of their vascular access device (VAD) is the first step in providing safe, effective care to these patients. Currently, as indicated by literature review, hospitals do not have a process in place to screen patients for the likelihood of misuse of their VAD. In this article, we focus on developing an assessment and work toward validating the tool. METHODS: A literature review was performed for screening tools that identify patients

Evaluation of the perceptions and cosmetic satisfaction of breast cancer patients undergoing totally implantable vascular access device (TIVAD) placement.

PURPOSE: Totally implantable vascular access devices (TIVADs) are widely used to administer chemotherapy to cancer patients. While great progress has been made with respect to breast surgical reconstruction to take into account both aesthetics and patients' perceptions of body integrity, these aspects have not been considered with regard to the impact of TIVAD. In order to address this practice gap, we have adapted our TIVAD implantation technique to improve cosmetic results. The aim of this study was to assess breast cancer patients' comfort level and aesthetic satisfaction with regard to TIV
