Effects of varying mandibular protrusion and degrees of vertical opening on upper airway dimensions in apneic dentate subjects.

INTRODUCTION: Despite numerous studies investigating the dimensional and therapeutic effects of mandibular advancement splints (MASs), data regarding the effects of differently designed individual and non-adjustable MASs on the upper airway in fully dentate apneic subjects in the sagittal plane including comparison of these effects with a placebo device are sparse. The present study aimed to determine the dimensional changes in the sagittal plane created by differently designed MASs in the upper airway in fully dentate apneic subjects and to compare these changes with the effects of a placebo

Development and pilot validation of a three-dimensional skeletal coordinate-based system for occlusal vertical dimension assessment in elderly Korean cadavers.

BACKGROUND: Establishing an accurate occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) remains fundamental for prosthetic rehabilitation. Historically, a 40 mm vertical reference has been widely cited; however, this value was derived from dentate adult populations using cast-based measurements. This pilot study aimed to re-evaluate anatomical OVD reference values in an elderly Korean population and to develop and preliminarily validate a three-dimensional skeletal coordinate-based measurement system for occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) using CT data. As a pilot investigation, the feasibility, reproducibility

Digital jaw relation recording to evaluate a new vertical dimension of occlusion using CAD/CAM-fabricated tooth-colored splints: a case report.

Pronounced defects of the dental hard tissue can be caused by different etiologic factors. Most frequently, they are associated with changes in the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO), which may also influence the condylar positions. These defects can lead to irreversible loss of tooth structure and have dramatic functional and esthetic consequences, often requiring complex rehabilitation. In this situation, CAD/CAM-fabricated occlusal splints made of tooth-colored polycarbonate are a proven and safe pretreatment approach in terms of esthetics and function. Rebuilding lost dental hard tissue

Cephalometric evaluation of changes in vertical dimension and molar position in adult non-extraction treatment with clear aligners and traditional fixed appliances.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontists have been using clear aligners to treat malocclusions, and one potential effect of treatment with orthodontic aligners is the intrusion and/or resists extrusion of the posterior teeth. This "bite-block effect" is primarily anecdotal due to the frequent occurrence of posterior open bites in patients after clear aligner therapy. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare changes promoted by clear aligners and traditional fixed appliances in cephalometric measurements of the vertical dimension and molar position in adult patients with Class I malocclusion tre

Dimensional asymmetries in social attention: Dynamic head movements elicit opposite attentional biases in vertical versus horizontal dimensions.

When observing a person with direct gaze but a horizontally averted head posture, attention often shifts opposite to head direction (overshoot effect). We investigated whether this effect generalizes to vertical head movements and whether it depends on gaze direction information. Across four experiments, centrally presented faces shifted dynamically to averted head positions before a target appeared at a location congruent or incongruent with head direction. Vertical head movements (Experiments 1 and 2) produced head-congruency effects, which were stronger when the eyes were closed. In contras
