A review of the literature gives considerable evidence that there are manifestations of migraine involving the vestibular system starting in infancy and proceeding to late life. This paper deals with these manifestations in the first two decades of life. There is evidence that vestibular symptoms are probably caused by involvement at different levels of the system in different cases. Paroxysmal vestibular symptoms may occur in association with headache, temporally independent of headache, or without headache, and may at times be the chief complaint causing the patient to seek help from the oto

Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most common types of episodic vertigo. Over the last 11 years, this disorder has been studied by both neurologists and otolaryngologists. Based on the clinical symptoms and previous migraine history, the Barany Society and the International Classification of Headache Disorders have created the diagnostic criteria for VM. Unilateral and pulsatile headache, phonophobia, photophobia, auras, and a previous history of migraine have been included in these criteria. Although these symptoms are common and widely known, other symptoms not included in the Barany So

Vestibular migraine (VM) is one of the most debilitating chronic diseases that is currently underdiagnosed and undertreated. The treatment of VM is a dynamic and rapidly advancing area of research. New developments in this field have the potential to improve the diagnosis and provide more individualized treatments for this condition. In this review, we discussed the progress of evidence-based treatment of VM, including pharmacotherapy and nonmedical methods. A search of the literature was conducted up to September 2019. In order to control or cure VM, patients should follow three steps. First,

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Migrainous dizziness is one of the most frequent complaints. Dizziness associated with migraine may be the result of abnormal eye movements. Brain imaging and changes in eye movements may explain the dizziness and highlight possible pathophysiological substrates in migraine dizziness. Our aim is to evaluate eye movement using videonystagmography (VNG) and video head impulse test (vHIT) and to study the occipital lobe metabolic profile in vestibular migraine patients (VM).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: There were 2 groups enrolled in the study; the first group consisted of 2

Approximately 1% of the general population and 10% of patients with migraine suffer from vestibular migraine (VM). However, this condition remains relatively unknown; therefore, it is often underdiagnosed despite the recent adoption of international diagnostic criteria for VM. The diagnosis of VM is based on the symptoms, degree, frequency, and duration of the vestibular episodes, a history of migraine, the temporal association of migraine symptoms with vestibular episodes in at least 50% of cases, and the exclusion of other causes. Physical examination and laboratory findings are usually norm

Dizziness is a common symptom among patients in primary care, general neurology, and headache clinic practices. Vestibular migraine is conceptualized as a condition of recurrent attacks of vestibular symptoms attributed to migraine. It is now considered the most common cause of spontaneous episodic vertigo. Persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) has more recently been defined based on four previous clinical entities as a syndrome of chronic daily dizziness, unsteadiness, or nonspinning vertigo that fluctuates and is exacerbated by postural, motion, or visual factors. Although PPPD is

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to evaluate complaints in people with Ménière's disease (MD) with and without migraine and headache to study the association between MD and Vestibular Migraine (VM). We believe this will help us understand if these two disorders represent a disease continuum in that they may share a common aetiology.
METHODS: The study used a retrospective design and included data of 911 patients with MD from the Finnish Ménière Federation database. The study participants had a mean age of 60.2 years, mean duration of disease of 12.6 years, and 78.7% of the particip

Martin Luther (1483-1546) reported attacks of headache and of vertigo in his letters and in his lectures. The symptomatology of his headache attacks fulfilled, at least in part, the diagnostic semiological criteria of migraine. However, because we cannot be sure about the time pattern and the exclusion of other disorders that might explain the headache, the diagnosis of migraine is not final. The vertigo attacks sometimes fulfilled the criteria of Ménière's disease. Vertigo also occurred together with headache attacks fulfilling the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd editi

Vestibular migraine is an underdiagnosed but increasingly recognized neurological condition that causes episodic vertigo associated with other features of migraine. It is now thought to be the most common cause of spontaneous (non-positional) episodic vertigo, affecting up to 1% of the population. A meta-analysis of preventative treatments for vestibular migraine was published in 2021, but the authors were unable to establish a preferred treatment strategy due to low quality of evidence and heterogeneity of study design and outcome reporting. Therefore, there remains a clinical need for pragma

This is the first report of vestibular examinations before and after the successful treatment of vestibular migraine (VM), a common cause of recurrent vertigo, with calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor inhibitor. We evaluated a 42-year-old female with VM and concomitant probable Meniere's disease, whose headache and dizziness have improved promptly with the administration of erenumab, a CGRP receptor inhibitor. The sensorineural hearing loss in pure-tone audiometry, dysfunctions shown in vestibular examinations (cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials), and mild en
