Longitudinal study of breastfeeding structure and women's work in the Brazilian Amazon.

It is well established that breast milk is the ideal food for infants and that breastfeeding has short- and long-term health benefits for the mother and child. However, there is variation in breastfeeding patterns between populations. Women's work is thought to influence breastfeeding patterns and timing of supplementation and it is often assumed that women in subsistence-oriented societies can more easily integrate their productive and reproductive activities. This article reports longitudinal data, collected in three rounds (resguardo [<40 days], peak [2-4 months], and late [14-16 months] la

Work role and depression in women: a comparison of workers and housewives in treatment.

Comparison of a patient population of depressed housewives with a matched group of depressed working women revealed some significant differences in social functioning in relation to work roles. The psychological benefits of outside employment have been widely discussed in relation to middle-class and upper-class women; this study indicates that, for women of lower socio-economic status, work may also have a protective psychological effect.

Hybrid office work in women and men: do directly measured physical behaviors differ between days working from home and days working at the office?

METHODS: We analyzed data collected in 2020 among 165 hybrid office workers, carrying thigh-worn accelerometers for 938 days in total. Day type (WAO, WFH, or NWD) and time in bed were identified using diaries. Time awake was exhaustively classified as non-sitting time and time sitting in short, moderate, and long bouts. Effects of day type and gender on the 24-h compositions of physical behavior

Health Challenges After a Ban on Women Working in Non-governmental Organizations in Afghanistan.

The Taliban's prohibition of women working in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has severely impacted essential health services in Afghanistan since its enactment in late 2022. This ban has led to the suspension of numerous health and nutrition teams, reduced counseling services, and closure of safe spaces for women and girls. The significant contribution of women in the healthcare sector is evidenced by their presence in various NGOs, with their absence causing a critical shortage of female health personnel. This has further exacerbated the hunger crisis in Afghanistan, putting millions a

[Fertility and reproduction in women working in beet growing and animal breeding (1943-1982)].

The article contains formulae for real fertility rate (RFR), functional and calendar-related pregnancy intervals. RFR is proposed as the criteria in the assessment of occupational factors' influence on the reproduction function in couples not using contraceptives. The simultaneous reproduction assessment with two indices involved (real fertility and birthrate) made it possible to evaluate the role of the occupational and social factors in human reproduction in the region. The agricultural female workers surveys showed that RFR remained stable at the time of examinations and births, taking acco

Oral Choline Reduced Working Memory-Related Brain Activation in Postmenopausal Women: A Pilot Study.

Background/Objectives: Choline plays an important role in maintaining normal cellular function and overall physiology. Endogenous choline availability depends on the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine via the phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT) pathway. Expression of PEMT is influenced by estrogen, as its promoter contains multiple estrogen-responsive elements that enhance enzyme activity. How a low estrogenic condition like menopause influences choline's effect on the brain is not yet fully understood. Methods: In this pilot study, 20 women participated in two study days, with 1
