BACKGROUND: Radial head fractures are one of the more common fractures of the body, and the most common fractures around the elbow.
CASE REPORT: While these can present in isolation, concomitant injuries to the ulna, elbow joint and surrounding ligaments, interosseous membrane, proximal radioulnar joint, and distal radioulnar joint can also occur. It is imperative that the treating surgeon rules out any concomitant injuries when evaluating a patient with a radial head fracture as the treatment options vary greatly depending on the structures which are damaged.

We report a case of a pregnant woman with acute spinal cord injury (C5) caused by gunshot wound and discuss the respective maternal and fetal considerations. Neither decompressive surgery nor corticosteroid protocols were used. At 37 weeks, the patient delivered a normal female infant after induction of labor and epidural anesthesia, with no medical or obstetrical complications. With conservative management and rehabilitation, this patient had significant recovery of function.

Blunt pelviperineal trauma has been associated with mortality rates of 32% to 58% in recent literature. A review of our institution's experience revealed a much lower mortality rate, prompting further investigation. PURPOSE: To evaluate an evidence-based wound protocol for intravenous extravasation injuries in neonates.
SAMPLE: Nine newborns with intravenous extravasation injuries. Birth weight: 582-4,404 gm, gestational age: 24-40 weeks.
RESULTS: Five Wounds were colonized with coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species, two with diphtheroids, three with Enterococcus. There was no evidence of wound infection or systemic infection. Rates of wound healing ranged from one to six weeks.

A total of 94 patients who sustained a penetrating wound in the neck had evidence of chest penetration. Using a policy of selective management 19 were explored. All patients with important vascular injury were hypotensive on admission or had an expanding haematoma. There were no complications in the 75 patients who were managed conservatively. Penetration of the chest is not an indication for exploration in neck wounds.
