The Geastrum saccatum a mushroom, native to Brazil, is produced under natural conditions in the unexplored reserve of Mata da Estrela-RN. This species has curative properties for eye infections and diseases such as asthma. The tissues of this mushroom contain carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, moisture and ashes in amounts of 42.3%, 37.05%, 9.01, 1.4% and 10.2%, respectively. INTRODUCTION: The clinical relevance and prognostic value of serum (1,3)-beta-D-glucan (BDG) in patients with intra-abdominal candidiasis (IAC) remains poorly characterized.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective single-center study (2020-2025) in adult patients with IAC who had a BDG measurement (Fujifilm Wako β-glucan test) within ±3 days of a positive culture. Demographic, clinical, and microbiological data were collected. Outcomes included end-of-treatment and 30-day mortality, and recurrence. Here, we present a case of an immunocompetent 37-year old male who developed Aspergillus fumigatus osteomyelitis 16 years after extensive chest wall reconstructive surgery for Ewing sarcoma. His treatment course was complicated by a severe adverse drug reaction to voriconazole, requiring the use of oral posaconazole therapy. Serum 1,3-beta-D glucan assay was utilized to dictate the duration of posaconazole therapy. The patient successfully completed 9 months of oral posaconazole therapy and has not had clinical recurrence for 9 months off antifungal therapy.
