Prevalence of parasites in patients with gastroenteritis at East of Mazandaran Province, Northern Iran.

Parasitic gastrointestinal infections are one of the most important health problems in the developing countries, which lead to the onset of intestinal disease particularly diarrhoea. Due to the particular geographic situation in the Mazandaran province, individuals are infected with various intestinal parasites. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence rate of enteropathogenic parasites in the patients with gastroenteritis living at the east of Mazandaran province (Sari, Nekah and Joybar cities), northern Iran. This descriptive study was carried out from September 2009 to March 20

Epidemiological analysis of eosinophilia and elevation of immunoglobulin E as a predictable and relative risk of enteroparasitosis.

INTRODUCTION: among the intestinal parasites, the helminthiasis occupies a prominent position in Brazil, since it worsens malnutrition and the gives rise to neurovegetative disorders. Helminths like Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, hookworm, Trichuris trichiura and Strongyloides stercoralis stand out due to several factors that modulate the immune response of individuals. Among the protozoa are Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica. E. dispar. Parasitic helminth antigens are important to stimulate the production of cytokines such as interleukin-4 and interleukin-5, which act thr

Giardiasis and other intestinal parasitic infections in relation to anthropometric indicators of malnutrition: a large, population-based survey of schoolchildren in Tehran.

The morbidity of intestinal parasitic infections is greatest among children of school age and may have an adverse effect on growth. In the present, cross-sectional study, the association between previously undiagnosed intestinal parasitic infections and growth was assessed in 19,209 children attending elementary schools in Tehran. The physical growth of these children was investigated by recording body weights, heights and weight-for-age Z scores. Faecal samples were collected and each checked for intestinal parasites using four methods (the microscopical examination of a smear stained with Lu

Bridging perception and reality: Parasitic identification in delusional parasitosis.

BACKGROUND: Delusional parasitosis (DP) is a psychiatric condition in which individuals hold a fixed, false belief that they are infected with parasites. These patients frequently consult parasite clinics and submit household or biological debris, often nonparasitic in origin, for parasitological examination. Although parasitologists are not directly responsible for treating this psychiatric disorder, they play a key role in identifying or excluding parasitic infections and guiding appropriate care. Misidentification of artifacts as parasites may result in unnecessary treatment, prolonged dist

Epidemiologic Investigation of Intestinal Parasite Infection and Associated Risk Factors among Primary Schoolchildren in the Manzini and Lubombo Provinces, the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Although the deworming program has been executed since 2000, the intestinal parasitic infection (IPI) rates among primary schoolchildren (PSC) in the two provinces of the Kingdom of Eswatini investigated in 2010 remained high, reaching 32.2%. In this study, we monitored the IPI status along with the associated risk factors for PSC in two provinces-Manzini and Lubombo. After consent from their parents/guardians, a total of 316 samples collected from PSC with grades 1 to 3 from four primary schools in Manzini and Lubombo were examined by the Merthiolate-Iodine-Formaldehyde (MIF) method. Parasitological stool examination from children without the typical symptoms of parasitic disease.

Most parasitic intestinal infestations in humans are sub-clinical and, therefore, they are rarely diagnosed. A number of general, non-specific symptoms of parasitic invasions are often attributed to other diseases. A parasitological examination of feces performed as part of this study confirmed the presence of intestinal parasites in 21.6% of samples. Among the patients who reported 6 different symptoms, the percentage of parasite-positive samples reached 80%. The obtained results suggest that coproscopic tests may establish the diagnosis in unclear cases, particularly in children. Many parasi
