UNLABELLED: The performance of 99mTc Stealth liposomes was investigated in various rat models.
METHODS: Preformed polyethyleneglycol-containing liposomes with encapsulated reduced glutathione, were radiolabeled using the lipophilic 99mTc-HMPAO. The labeled liposomes were intravenously administered to rats with focal S. aureus or E. coli infection, or turpentine-induced inflammation. For comparison, Tc-99m-nanocolloid- and 99mTc-labeled nonspecific IgG were tested. In rats with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP), Tc-99m-liposomes were directly compared to In-111 labeled nonspecific IgG.

An initial attempt to superimpose in-111-labeled platelet SPECT over CT/MRI in two patients with intracardiac thrombus is presented. Fifty patients with suspected intra-abdominal abscess were investigated prospectively with ultrasound and with 99mTc-hexamethylpropylene-amine oxime (HMPAO) isotope labelled mixed leucocytes, using 111-In tropolonate granulocyte scanning as the reference standard. Twenty patients with the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma were studied from January 1990 to January 1998. Nineteen patients had a pathologic investigation performed. UNLABELLED: Somatostatin and gastrin receptors are overexpressed in medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) cells; hence, both of them are potential targets for peptide receptor scintigraphy and radiotherapy. UNLABELLED: Gastric carcinoids are of increasing clinical concern because they may develop in hypergastrinemic states, especially with the increased chronic use of potent acid suppressants that can cause hypergastrinemia.
