Bilateral Iris and Chorioretinal Colobomas in a Child With Suspected Lamb-Shaffer Syndrome.

Lamb-Shaffer syndrome (LSS) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder caused by haploin-sufficiency of the SRY-related HMB box (SOX5) gene. Most cases result from de novo variants; however, some cases follow autosomal dominant inheritance patterns. Classic features of LSS include global developmental delay, dysmorphic facial features, musculoskeletal abnormalities, and cardiac and genitourinary defects. Ophthalmic manifestations of LSS such as strabismus and optic nerve abnormalities have been described in approximately 55% of patients with LSS. We report a case of a 22-month-old boy with a histor

Two Paired Box 6 mutations identified in Chinese patients with classic congenital aniridia and cataract.

Congenital aniridia is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a variable degree of hypoplasia or absence of iris. It is frequently associated with keratopathy, cataract, juvenile‑onset glaucoma and foveal and optic nerve hypoplasia. Mutations in the Paired Box 6 (PAX6) gene on chromosome 11p13 have been demonstrated to cause aniridia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the genetic variations of PAX6 in two sporadic patients from southern China with classic congenital aniridia and cataract. Complete ophthalmic and physical examinations were performed, including best‑corrected vis

Association between retinitis pigmentosa and an increased risk of primary angle closure glaucoma: A population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the most frequent retinal hereditary dystrophy and result in blindness if progresses. Several case reports have revealed the possible association between RP and primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). We conducted a population-based study to explore whether RP significantly increased the risk of PACG development. METHODS: Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, we enrolled patients with RP into the RP group from 2001 to 2013 and included a comparison group of 1:4 age- and sex-matched individuals without RP. We performed a Cox regre

Ultrasound Biomicroscopy Diagnosis Analysis and Fine Care of Anterior Segment Injury of Traumatic Anterior Chamber Based on Intelligent Virtual Reality Technology.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The front part of the eye is exposed to the surface of the body, making it susceptible to injury. Blunt eye injuries often destroy the tissue structure in the anterior part of the eye. Often there is detachment of the iris root, separation of the ciliary body, the angle of retraction of the chamber, and complete dislocation or subluxation of the lens. Ordinary ocular ultrasound can penetrate into opaque tissue, but because of its low resolution, it can only show its outline, which is still very small for doctors in assisting diagnosis. Ultrasonic biomicroscopy is a very real-time analysis, wil

A Case of Homocystinuria Misdiagnosed as Moyamoya Disease: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Homocystinuria is a hereditary disease caused by a defect in the enzymes involved in metabolizing methionine. Homocystinuria can influence many systems and may be mistaken for other diseases, including Moyamoya disease. Here, we report the case of a 10-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of Moyamoya disease who had been monitored for that for an extended period. The patient's diagnosis was changed to homocystinuria as a result of lens subluxation and cataract findings. CASE PRESENTATION: A 10-year-old male patient presented with vomiting, headache, lethargy, muscular weakness

Inborn errors of molybdenum metabolism: combined deficiencies of sulfite oxidase and xanthine dehydrogenase in a patient lacking the molybdenum cofactor.

A patient suffering from a combined deficiency of sulfite oxidase (sulfite dehydrogenase; sulfite:ferricytochrome c oxidoreductase, EC 1.8.2.1) and xanthine dehydrogenase (xanthine:NAD+ oxidoreductase, EC 1.2.1.37) is described. The patient displays severe neurological abnormalities, dislocated ocular lenses, and mental retardation. Urinary excretion of sulfite, thiosulfate, S-sulfocysteine, taurine, hypoxanthine, and xanthine is increased in this individual, while sulfate and urate levels are drastically reduced. The metabolic defect responsible for loss of both enzyme activities appears to b

Chronic and Intermittent Angle Closure Caused by In-The-Bag Capsular Tension Ring and Intraocular Lens Dislocation in Patients With Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome.

PURPOSE: A subluxation or dislocation of the intraocular lens (IOL) is a well-known complication after cataract surgery in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX). Capsular tension rings (CTR) are frequently used to prevent postoperative complications caused by zonular weakness. Here we present a series of 7 cases, 2 with intermittent and 5 with acute angle closure caused by a combination of PEX-associated zonular weakness and a resulting unstable capsular bag-CTR-IOL complex. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We describe the typical clinical course with elevated intraocular pressure, myopic shif
