INTRODUCTION: Typical testicular epidermoid cysts (TECs) manifestate as a target sign or onion skin sign on ultrasonography and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Clinicians are increasingly aware of the imaging characteristics of typical TECs, which allow accurate diagnosis and successful treatment while preserving the testicle, but atypical TECs are likely to be misdiagnosed as a malignant intratesticular neoplasm, leading to complete testicular resection.

BACKGROUND: To determine if heroin body packing has occurred using computed tomography (CT), and to evaluate the role of CT in screening such cases.
METHODS: We collected 158 cases of suspected drug packers' imaging materials (all underwent CT, 42 cases were imaged using plain x-ray film) from September 5, 2005 to April 23, 2008. Abdominal-pelvic CT appearances (shape, size, number, location and density) and abdominal plain x-ray film manifestations were retrospectively observed for those who were finally confirmed as heroin body packers through the passing of evacuated drug packets.

This prevented parturition, with intrauterine fetal death 2 to 4 days past term and subsequent retention of dead fetuses. Motivated by the need for a convenient way to demonstrate the growth of crystals in glass plates by the lipid cubic phase method at crystallization workshops and courses, we developed a lightweight, portable, compact and inexpensive digital microscope device. The device is built around hand-held Wi-Fi and hardwired digital microscopes that are available commercially at low cost and that can use cell phones and personal computers for imaging without the need for unwieldy eyepieces. The device provides illumination from above and below the crystallization plate over a range of brightness levels.
