Toxoplasmosis is a health concern for wildlife and humans, particularly in island ecosystems. BACKGROUND: Malaria control remains a significant challenge in the Solomon Islands. Despite progress made by local malaria control agencies over the past decade, case rates remain high in some areas of the country. Prometryn, a triazine herbicide detected in near-shore waters, sorbs strongly to and persists in sediments, yet its toxicity to marine benthic organisms remains poorly characterised. We assessed acute (96-h, waterborne) and chronic (28-d, spiked-sediment microcosm) toxicity to the Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum), the nereid (Perinereis aibuhitensis) and the ghost shrimp (Callianassa japonica) using procedures adapted from OECD and U.S. EPA guidance. Experimental toxicity endpoints are based on nominal concentrations because exposure concentrations were not verified throughout the tests.

The crayfish plague pathogen Aphanomyces astaci has been implicated in a number of mass mortalities and irreversible population declines of native crayfish across Europe. Suspended particulate matter (SPM) concentration is an important biogeochemical parameter for water quality assessment and morphodynamic studies. In this study, the four recent SPM retrieval models developed for Bohai Sea were evaluated using in situ datasets, and the best performing model was selected to investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of SPM in Bohai Sea from 2011 to 2021 based on 1164 satellite imageries. From 2003 to 2007, concentrations of total mercury and methylmercury (THg and MeHg) were continuously measured in two Canadian sub-Arctic rivers (the Nelson and the Churchill) that drain into western Hudson Bay.
