A quantum resilient deepfake detection framework using enhanced resnext and post quantum cryptography defence.

Deepfakes are digital-media which may contain audio, videos or images synthesised by usage of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) with the aid of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. These deepfakes have the capability to replicate and mimic the behaviour of real people. Although deepfakes are beneficial in filmmaking and in education sector, but they can have serious implications within the other areas or fields such as in politics, social network platforms, human security and law. The deepfakes can mislead several people with false information. By creating false evidence that can be

The relation between mechanical impact parameters and most frequent bicycle related head injuries.

The most frequent head injuries resulting from bicycle accidents include skull fracture acute subdural hematoma (ASDH), cerebral contusions, and diffuse axonal injury (DAI). This review includes epidemiological studies, cadaver experiments, in vivo imaging, image processing techniques, and computer reconstructions of cycling accidents used to estimate the mechanical parameters leading to specific head injuries. The results of the head impact tests suggest the existence of an energy failure level for the skull fracture, specific for different impact regions (22-24J for the frontal site and 5-15

Study of microstructural changes in cornea under different stresses using a custom-made 100 kHz swept-source optical coherence tomography imaging system.

Swept-source optical coherence tomography (SSOCT) is a non-destructive imaging technique that provides high-resolution visualisation of tissue microstructure. This study examined corneal morphology and central corneal thickness (CCT) variations under cold (0 °C), formalin (10%), and heat (80 °C) stress using a custom-built 100 kHz SSOCT system over 72 h. Quantitative evaluation of CCT and the optical attenuation coefficient (OAC) provided depth-resolved insight into microstructural alterations, eliminating the need for layer segmentation. In controls, stromal CCT increased from 839.8 ± 39.1 μm

Intracranial needles since 14 year: diagnostic challenges and management strategies - a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Intracranial foreign bodies are rare and mostly found accidentally. These are associated with penetrating trauma or the result of surgical interventions. However, this deliberate introduction of objects like needles during infancy as an attempted infanticide is very rare. Reported cases suggest that such objects can remain asymptomatic for years or present later with seizures, neurological deficits, or sometimes with infections. Studies indicate that the management varies from conservative follow-up to surgical removal, depending on symptoms and associated complicati

Sexual dimorphism assessment through morphological analysis of the sella turcica in multislice computed tomography scans.

The sella turcica (ST) is a depression located within the sphenoid bone in the middle cranial fossa. It houses the pituitary gland and serves as a crucial cephalometric landmark for craniofacial growth assessment. Given that several studies have analyzed its dimensions using imaging, some researchers have proposed evaluating its morphology in relation to sex, considering it a potential structure for human identification in forensic anthropology. This study aimed to assess sexual dimorphism through morphological evaluation of the ST in multislice computed tomography (MSCT) scans of individuals

Fatal traumatic injury patterns in free-roaming cats: an anatomopathological study of 40 cases.

BACKGROUND: Trauma is an important cause of death in domestic cats, particularly in animals with unrestricted outdoor access. However, necropsy-based studies focusing specifically on immediately fatal trauma in free-roaming cats remain limited. This study aimed to characterize fatal traumatic injuries in free-roaming cats through a retrospective anatomopathological review of feline necropsies performed over a 10-year period at the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Brazil, based on gross findings, histopathology, and complementary imaging when available. Coronary CT angiography for the assessment of atherosclerotic plaque inflammation: postmortem proof of concept with histological validation.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the diagnostic utility of multiphase postmortem CT angiography (PMCTA) to detect plaque enhancement as a surrogate marker of inflammation, using fatal coronary plaques obtained from autopsies following sudden cardiac death. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we included 35 cases (12 women, 34%; median [IQR] age, 52 [11] years), with autopsy-proven coronary thrombosis, histological examination, and multiphase PMCTA. Two radiologists blinded towards histological findings assessed PMCTA for plaque enhancement of the culprit lesion in consensus. Two forensic pathologist

Comparative Study of Antemortem Computed Tomography (CT) Findings With Autopsy Findings in Head Injury Cases.

INTRODUCTION: Head injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and accurate assessment of traumatic head injuries is important for both clinical management and medicolegal investigations. Computed tomography (CT) is routinely used for the evaluation of head injuries in living patients, whereas medicolegal autopsy remains the standard method for postmortem assessment. This prospective comparative observational study was conducted to compare antemortem CT scan findings with autopsy findings in fatal head injury cases. METHODOLOGY: A total of 34 cases that underwent both antemo

Post-mortem computed tomography angiography using left ventricle cardiac puncture: A whole-body, angiographic approach.

Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) and PMCT angiography (PMCTA) are rapidly becoming effective and practical methods in forensic medicine. In this article, the authors introduce a whole-body PMCTA approach involving left ventricle cardiac puncture. This procedure was performed in 9 males and 3 females. PMCT was performed first. Then a biopsy core needle was used for a percutaneous puncture into the left ventricle through the intercostal area under CT guidance. 1000 mL of contrast media (diatrizoate meglumine and normal saline [0.9%] at 1:2 ratio) was injected at a rate of 50 mL/8 s, follow

The use of whole body diffusion-weighted post-mortem magnetic resonance imaging in timing of perinatal deaths.

OBJECTIVES: Diffusion-weighted MRI provides information regarding body water movement following death, which may be an imaging marker of post-mortem interval (time since death; PMI) or maceration (degree of tissue degradation during intra-uterine retention) in perinatal deaths. Our aim was to evaluate the relationship between maceration, PMI and body organ apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in a cohort of subjects across a wide gestational range. MATERIALS: Whole body post-mortem MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) sequences were performed at 1.5 T, with b values of 0, 500 and

Validation and optimization of the diatom L/D ratio as a diagnostic marker for drowning.

If a dead body is discovered in water, it nearly always raises the question about the cause of death, often associated with the persistent problem to differentiate between a drowning incident and post-mortem immersion. In numerous cases, a reliable confirmation of death by drowning is often only possible by a combination of diagnoses obtained from autopsy and additional investigations. As to the latter, the use of diatoms has been suggested (and debated) since decades. Based on the consideration that diatoms are present in almost every natural waterbody and are unavoidably incorporated when wa

Two fatal cases of lacosamide poisoning with contrasting postmortem findings: implications for forensic toxicology.

Lacosamide is a third-generation antiepileptic drug with expanding clinical use worldwide. Although generally considered safe, it has occasionally resulted in fatal intoxications; however, detailed postmortem data remain limited. Here, we describe two fatal cases of acute lacosamide poisoning with contrasting postmortem findings. In case 1, the cardiac blood concentration was extremely high (200 µg/mL). The gastric contents contained no visible solid residue at autopsy, although computed tomography images revealed hyperdense material in the stomach, extending toward the pyloric region. The car

End-to-end vs. human-defined feature extraction: comparing deep learning approaches for age classification using mandibular third molars.

Accurate age classification using mandibular third molar radiographs is crucial for legal and forensic applications. This study evaluated different methods for classifying age as under or over 18 years in a Thai population. We compared three approaches: (i) a traditional human-based method using a modified Demirjian classification adapted for mandibular third molars, (ii) an end-to-end deep learning model in which a convolutional neural network (CNN) directly predicts age group, and (iii) a human-defined feature extraction approach, where a CNN estimates tooth developmental stages that are sub

Accuracy and reproducibility of latent print decisions on comparisons from searches of an automated fingerprint identification system.

This study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of decisions made by practicing latent print examiners (LPEs) when comparing latent fingerprints to exemplars that were acquired by searches of the FBI Next Generation Identification system (NGI). This study builds on the 2009 FBI-Noblis latent print examiner black box study (1, 2), incorporating lessons learned from conducting multiple additional forensic examiner studies. Analyses are based on 14,224 responses from 156 LPEs. Each participant was assigned 100 latent-exemplar image pairs (IPs, 80 nonmated and 20 mated) out o
