Impact of Tibetan ethnicity and residence altitude on complications during total knee arthroplasty and difficulties of measurement of perioperative blood loss.

PURPOSE: Tibetan patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have greater fluctuations in perioperative haemoglobin levels and blood hypercoagulability. This study was to investigate whether ethnicity and altitude affect perioperative blood loss and the risk of complications after TKA. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 1,116 patients undergoing TKA for knee osteoarthritis at our hospital between January 2016 and September 2021. We divided patients into four groups according to whether they were of Tibetan or Han ethnicity and whether they lived above or below 2500 m above sea level.

The First Case of Diarrhoea in Tibetan Sheep, Ovis aries, Caused by Balantidium coli in the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau Area, China.

This study was carried out to determine the pathogen-causing diarrhoea in sheep Ovis aries in the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau Area, China. A trophozoite was identified as species of ciliate alveolates infecting the sheep based on morphological characteristics examined by microscope. It was mostly spherical, colourless and transparent, with many vesicles. Macronucleus and contractile vacuoles could not be distinguished. Size of the trophozoite was 80-180 × 70-150 μm and its surface was covered with cilia. Molecular analysis based on sequences of 18S rRNA and ITS genes confirmed the ciliate species

Epidemiological investigation and risk factors of Echinococcus granulosus in yaks (Bos grunniens), Tibetan pigs and Tibetans on Qinghai Tibetan plateau.

Echinococcus granulosus (E. granulosus) is a diverse zoonotic parasite and causes Cystic echinococcosis (CE) disease in humans and livestock. However, scare information is available about the epidemic situation of E. granulosus infection in yaks, Tibetan pigs and native Tibetans on the Qinghai Tibetan plateau. Therefore, a study was carried out to find prevalence and risk factors of E. granulosus in yaks, Tibetan pigs and Tibetans. Serum samples from yaks (1371), Tibetan pigs (454) and Tibetans (600) were collected and assessed by commercial ELISA kits. Multivariable logistic regression model

Workplace violence, intimate partner violence, and depression in nurses: the mediating role of impostor syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Depression is a global mental health concern and demonstrates high prevalence among nurses, significantly impairing their quality of life. Previous studies have identified impostor syndrome (IS), workplace violence (WPV), and intimate partner violence (IPV) as risk factors for depression. It has been hypothesised that WPV and IPV may promote the development of IS, which in turn could lead to depression; however, these relationships have not been empirically confirmed. AIMS: This study aimed to examine the mediating role of IS in the relationships between WPV, IPV, and depression a

[Response of Soil Microbial Necromass Carbon and Community Structure to Warming and Nitrogen Addition in an Alpine Swamp Meadow].

Climate change, especially global warming and increasing atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition, has become a major driver of carbon cycle in terrestrial ecosystems. To the role of microbial residues in soil organic carbon (SOC) accumulation and identify their controlling factors under climate change scenarios, a field experiment was conducted in an alpine swamp meadow on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The experiment included four treatments: control group, warming, N addition, and combined warming with N addition. Soil microbial necromass carbon (MNC) was quantified by separately assessing fungal ne

Body mass index affects EEG microstate dynamics through blood viscosity in high-altitude environments.

High-altitude hypoxia imposes substantial challenges on cerebral oxygen delivery and brain functional regulation. Body mass index (BMI) may influence neurophysiological adaptation to such environments through metabolic and hemorheological pathways, yet its relationship with resting-state Electroencephalography (EEG) microstate dynamics remains unclear. This study examined whether blood viscosity (BV) mediates the association between BMI and EEG microstate characteristics in a high-altitude population. A total of 123 permanent residents from Lhasa, Tibet, were initially included. Because only f

Trends and spatial distribution of pulmonary tuberculosis in China: a surveillance study.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a leading infectious cause of death worldwide, and China remains a high-burden country. Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) accounts for most TB cases in China, but previous studies have been geographically limited, used short forecasting horizons, or lacked systematic model comparisons. This study aimed to assess trends, spatial dynamics, and future trajectories of PTB incidence and mortality across mainland China and identify geographical anomalies requiring targeted interventions. METHODS: Monthly PTB incidence and mortality data for 2004-2025 were obtained f

Divergent Gut Microbiota Configurations Are Associated with Contrasting Physiological Profiles in Grazing Yaks and Introduced Feedlot Holstein Cattle Under High-Altitude Conditions.

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau presents extreme environmental challenges, including hypobaric hypoxia and nutritional scarcity, to which indigenous yaks (Bos grunniens) are remarkably adapted, whereas introduced Holstein cattle (Bos taurus) often exhibit severe maladaptation. This study compared the gut microbiota of grazing yaks (n = 20) and feedlot Holstein cattle (n = 20) under high-altitude conditions using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (for community composition) and shotgun metagenomic sequencing (for direct functional profiling of CAZy, COG, and KEGG pathways), combined with in vitro fer

The effect of nine-year nitrogen addition on foliar fungal diseases of plant groups in an alpine meadow.

INTRODUCTION: Foliar fungal diseases have become one of the non-negligible drivers of accelerated grassland degradation, and global change processes such as increased nitrogen (N) deposition can significantly regulate the occurrence and development of foliar fungal diseases in meadows. However, little is known about how increased nitrogen deposition affects foliar fungal diseases in alpine meadows, and there is limited understanding of the relative importance of different plant groups in the process of N enrichment affecting plant diseases. METHODS: Here, based on a 9-year continuous nitrogen

Ecological restoration enhances biomass through a shift from R- to SR-strategy and functional richness in degraded alpine meadows on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau.

Ecological restoration of severely degraded alpine meadows often involves introducing pioneer herbaceous species, with the goal of promoting succession toward a more stable, sedge-dominated community. Understanding the mechanisms by which plant CSR strategies and functional diversity co-drive biomass accumulation during alpine meadow restoration is critical for guiding effective ecological management, yet these linkages remain poorly understood in high-altitude ecosystems. To address this gap, we established a 23-year restoration chronosequence on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau using a space-for-ti
