Tuberous sclerosis - also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) - is a rare, multi-system genetic disorder affecting cellular differentiation & proliferation, which results in hamartoma formation in many organs. The classic triad of clinical features comprises mental retardation, epilepsy & skin lesion, but these three features are not always present. Mrs. Jahanara Khatun, a 30 years old lady presented with maculo-papular skin lesions over the face, neck, shoulder since her six years of age, a lump in the right lumber region for four years, pain in the right lumber region associated with pas

Angiomyolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor of the kidney. The tumor is composed of fat, smooth muscle, and blood vessels. The same pathological entity can appear in two clinically different forms, with or without tuberous sclerosis. We present two cases of renal angiomyolipomas with unusual manifestations. One was associated with tuberous sclerosis and both had the presentation of acute abdomen. Case one presented with epilepsy, angiofibroma, subungual fibroma, periventricular calcification, and bilateral renal angiomyolipomas. Tuberous sclerosis is characterized by these findings. Both cases

BACKGROUNDAmong patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1), 80% develop duodenopancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (dpNETs), of whom 15%-25% die of metastasis. There is a need to identify biomarkers to predict aggressive disease. MEN1 genotype affords an attractive possibility as a biomarker, as it remains constant during life. Currently, patients are clinically diagnosed with MEN1 by the presence of ≥2 primary endocrine tumors (pituitary, parathyroid, and pancreas) or ≥1 primary endocrine tumor with a positive family history. From 10% to 30% of patients diagnosed clinically with ME

INTRODUCTION: Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare, multisystem genetic disorder caused by mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes, resulting in dysregulation of the mTOR pathway. Clinical manifestations include epilepsy, cutaneous lesions, and hamartomas in various organs, presenting diagnostic challenges, especially in resource-limited settings. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), barriers such as lack of access to genetic testing, advanced imaging, and targeted therapies contribute to underdiagnosis and delayed care.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a 22-year-old male from rural Ta

Deletions involving the TSC2 and PKD1 genes lead to tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which is known as TSC2-PKD1 contiguous gene deletion syndrome (PKDTS). PKDTS leads to severe symptoms and death. There are few reported cases of PKDTS, the phenotypic descriptions are poor, and detailed statistics and descriptions of the time of onset and prognosis of PKDTS are lacking. This is the first study to report on the clinical data of PKDTS patients in China. We analyzed all cases including Chinese individuals and summarized the clinical manife

The pterygopalatine fossa (PPF) is an inverted, pyramid-shaped space immediately behind the posterior wall of the maxillary sinus, and lesions arising here include juvenile angiofibromas, schwannomas, and, in exceptionally rare cases, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors.1,2 Surgical access to the PPF is challenging and has been historically achieved via an open transmaxillary approach associated with facial scaring/deformity as well as potential injury to facial and infraorbital nerve branches.3 We present the case of a 67-year-old woman with facial numbness secondary to a presumed trigem

PURPOSE: Hemangioma is a common benign vascular lesion of the head and neck region. It rarely involves the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. It should be added to the differential diagnosis of nasal cavity masses when the presenting symptoms are epistaxis or nasal obstruction.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review was conducted of a histologic diagnosis of lobular capillary hemangioma or cavernous hemangioma of the sinonasal mucous membranes treated at the Chonbuk National University Hospital from January 1995 through December 2015. There were 1,479 pat

BACKGROUND: The autosomal dominant tumor syndrome tuberous sclerosis complex is caused by the mutated TSC1 gene, hamartin, and the TSC2 gene, tuberin. Patients with this complex develop typical cutaneus symptoms such as peau chagrin or angiofibromas of the skin as well as other lesions such as astrocytomas in the brain and lymphangioleiomyomatosis in the lung. Only a few tuberous sclerosis patients have been described who showed a multifocal micronodular pneumocyte hyperplasia of the lung. Another benign tumor which often occurs together with tuberous sclerosis is the angiomyolipoma of the kid

Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare autosomal dominant hereditary cancer syndrome presented mostly by tumours of the parathyroids, endocrine pancreas and anterior pituitary, and characterised by a very high penetrance and an equal sex distribution. It occurs in approximately one in 30,000 individuals. Two different forms, sporadic and familial, have been described. The sporadic form presents with two of the three principal MEN1-related endocrine tumours (parathyroid adenomas, entero-pancreatic tumours and pituitary tumours) within a single patient, while the familial form cons

Glomangiopericytoma (sinonasal-type hemangiopericytoma) is an uncommon sinonasal neoplasm with a perivascular myoid phenotype. This tumor differs from conventional soft tissue hemangiopericytoma in location, biologic behavior, and histologic features. The proposed cell of origin is a modified perivascular glomuslike myoid cell. Glomangiopericytoma is an indolent tumor that tends to arise in the sinonasal tract of older adults and has a low malignant potential with excellent prognosis after surgical resection. Histologically, this lesion is composed of a diffuse, subepithelial proliferation of

Nasal cytology is a simple, easy, bloodless and quite reliable investigation. Although its utility was recognized as early as 1927 by Eyerman, it has not yet gained much popularity. Here, an attempt is made to assess its efficacy for the diagnosis of various inflammatory, benign and malignant conditions in 151 cases of common rhinological problems in the M.Y. Group of Hospitals, Indore MP, India. This method can be used as an adjuvant to clinical diagnosis and histopathological diagnosis as an outpatient department (OPD) procedure with the help of a nasal endoscope, as it was found to be a sim

Epithelioid sarcoma is a malignant soft tissue tumor characterized by its propensity to occur in the distal extremities as a nodular lesion and its slow and asymptomatic growth. Microscopically, the diagnosis is difficult. Therefore the interval between onset of symptoms and diagnosis averages one to three years. 10 years survival after onset are not uncommon whatever the treatment chosen. Having to treat such a tumor of a hand, 8 years after onset, we decided a local radical excision by micro-surgery instead of amputation or mutilating excision. Long standing clinical follow-up will add valua

Lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH) is a specific entity among vascular lesions of the head and neck that may be diagnosed loosely as "pyogenic granuloma". In contrast to granulation polyps and other reactive conditions, LCH is now regarded as likely a benign vascular neoplasm. Recent series assert lack of postoperative recurrence of LCH. We have observed otherwise, and to clarify this issue performed a systematic review of our institutional experience with LCH, tabulating clinicopathologic, histologic, and follow-up parameters of nasal or sinus lesions diagnosed as LCH or PG between 1989 and 2
