BACKGROUND: Thirty-one Russian patients with late complement component deficiency (LCCD) who had experienced one to five meningococcal infections were immunized with meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (A + C + W135 + Y) and were followed for 3-8 years. We investigated the potentially protective killing effect of human neutrophils (PMNL) on serogroup A and W135 meningococci.

In a retrospective study the histopathological findings of 127 laparoscopically operated unilocular anechoic smooth-walled ovarian cysts have been correlated with clinical characteristics (age, duration of observation, complaints, hormonal treatment), size by ultrasound, kind and colour of cysts content as well as cytological findings. AIM: We aimed to investigate the effect of alcohol abuse on the conjunctival flora.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cases were evaluated as two groups. The study group consisted of 55 heavy-drinking males diagnosed with alcohol abuse, while the control group consisted of 55 males without a history of alcohol abuse. Samples were taken from the inferior fornix conjunctiva with sterile cotton-tipped swabs (Amies transport medium) for culture. The samples were inoculated into blood agar, chocolate agar, eosine methylene blue agar and Saboraud-Dextrose agar (Oxoid/UK) with the dilution method.
