As the use of leaded gasoline has ceased in the last decade, background lead exposure has generally been reduced. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of low-level lead exposure on human hearing loss. This study was conducted in a steel plant and 412 workers were recruited from all over the plant. Personal information such as demographics and work history was obtained through a questionnaire. An international survey of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) levels inside indoor ice skating facilities was conducted. One-week average NO2 concentrations were measured inside and outside of 332 ice rinks located in nine countries. Each rink manager also completed a questionnaire describing the building, the resurfacing machines, and their use patterns. A pilot scale test for a process combining in-situ chemical oxidation using H(2)O(2) solution with biodegradation was performed to remove TPH from a diesel contaminated military site. In batch experiments, when 20% H(2)O(2) solution was used for TPH contaminated soil, TPH removal efficiency was 63.5%. In this study, the efforts to reduce NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions from a diesel engine using both ethanol-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx over an Ag/Al2O3 catalyst and a biodiesel-ethanol-diesel fuel blend (BE-diesel) on an engine bench test are discussed.
