BACKGROUND: Several appliances have been used for correction of developing skeletal Class II, including different myofunctional appliances as Twin block (TB)as well as the new pre-fabricated Myobrace (MB) appliance. However, the effects of these devices on the pharyngeal airways have not been compared in the literature. Thus, the aim of this study was to compare the effects of two Class II correction appliances; TB and MB on the sagittal pharyngeal airway dimension (SPAD), including the nasopharyngeal airway area (NPAA), the oropharyngeal airway area (OPAA), and the laryngopharyngeal airway ar

This article describes the use of tooth transplantation and orthodontic tooth alignment in patients with cleft lip and palate. Due to bone defects in the maxilla, the congenital absence of teeth, especially lateral incisors, is frequently observed in patients with cleft lip and palate. As compared with orthodontic space closure or prosthodontic treatment, tooth transplantation has several advantages, including induction of alveolar growth potential during adolescence. In this study, two cleft lip and palate patients with congenitally missing teeth were treated successfully by tooth transplanta

A new modality of orthodontic treatment based on the thermoformed appliance was developed and trialled clinically. A light-cured resilient lining material commonly used for denture relining was placed locally and sequentially in thermoformed appliances to generate orthodontic forces. The new method appeared to be effective. All the presented cases showed substantial improvement in dental alignment. A number of orthodontic movements were demonstrated. Localized use of resilient lining in thermoformed orthodontic appliances appeared to be a promising alternative to other thermoformed active remo

OBJECTIVES: Mandibular anterior crowding can be treated by expanding the dental arch or by extracting teeth, usually premolars. The aim of this study was to assess long-term outcomes of extraction versus non-extraction therapies in terms of gingival recession.
METHODS: Fifty consecutive patients were selected, including 26 non-extraction and 24 extraction cases. All had been treated with fixed appliances because of well-defined comparable moderate crowding and Angle Class I malocclusion. Patient age was documented before treatment, upon debonding, and during retention, thus, allowing the calc
