Different biomechanical effects of clear aligners in closing maxillary and mandibular extraction spaces: Finite element analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Compared with fixed treatments, clear aligners (CAs) have the advantages of comfort, esthetics, and hygiene, and are popular among patients and orthodontists. However, CAs exhibit control deficiencies in extraction patients because of insufficient root control and retention effects. These deficiencies can magnify biomechanical differences in bimaxillary dentition, further causing different orthodontic requirements between maxillary and mandibular dentition. This study aimed to elaborate on the biomechanical characteristics of bimaxillary dentition in extraction space closure and

RATIONAL: Dental abnormalities can occur at any stage of tooth development. Of these abnormalities, true generalized microdontia is a rare condition in which all teeth are smaller than normal, while hypodontia is defined as the absence of 1 to 5 teeth. As far as we are aware, no article has reported a case of the non-syndromic occurrence of true generalized microdontia with hypodontia. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 9-year-old girl who had no systemic diseases presented with congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors bilaterally and small teeth involving the whole dentition. DIAGNOSES: Based on i

PTHrP Overexpression in Periosteum Promotes Alveolar Bone Formation.

Alveolar bone regions with low innate thickness are prone to dehiscence, potentially causing harmful gingival recession. In situ alveolar bone thickening via local bioagent administration has recently emerged as a promising research area. Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), encoded by the Pthlh gene, plays a pivotal role in skeletal development and bone remodeling. In this study, we developed a recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) vector overexpressing Pthlh (rAAV9-Pthlh). Using a split-mouth design, we administered rAAV9-Pthlh via a single submucosal injection into the right max

Age estimation of children and adolescents from mandibles using machine learning.

Age estimation is a crucial step in forensic identification, particularly in scenarios where dental structures may be absent. This study aimed to develop and evaluate supervised machine learning models to predict chronological age based on mandibular morphometric measurements in children and adolescents. A sample of lateral cephalometric radiographs from 401 orthodontic patients aged between 6 and 16 years was analysed. Linear and angular mandibular measurements including the total mandibular length (Co-Pog), mandibular ramus height (Co-Go), mandibular body length (Go-Gn), and the gonial angle

Minor physical anomalies including palatal rugae pattern and palatal dimensions in children with sickle cell disease: A cross-sectional analytical study.

BACKGROUND: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common hereditary hemoglobinopathy, which delays growth leading to an altered skeleton and craniofacial pattern. Palatal rugae patterning has been considered the regulator of the development of the palate. The purpose of the research work was to study the morphology of the palate, rugae pattern, and its dimensions in SCD children and compare them with healthy normal children, and to evaluate its role as minor physical anomalies (MPAs). METHODS: A cross-sectional case-control study was designed as per STROBE guidelines. The sample comprised 50

Optimal sites for mini-implant insertion into the infrazygomatic crest according to different craniofacial morphologies: A cross-sectional cone-beam computed tomography study.

INTRODUCTION: The infrazygomatic bone crest and other extraalveolar regions represent a viable option for the placement of temporary anchorage devices when distalizing the maxillary arch. This approach allows for the movement of the dentition without concern for potential collisions among dental structures. Nevertheless, it is of the utmost importance to conduct a thorough examination of the anatomy of this region before the placement of mini-implants to prevent potential injuries, such as maxillary sinus perforations. The objective of this study was to quantify the depth of the infrazygomatic
