Analysis of the risk factors regarding anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using multiple-looped semitendinosus tendon.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the risk factors regarding anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using autogenous semitendinosus tendon by subjective evaluation of the patients. We studied 63 patients who had been followed for 18 months or longer after surgery. They comprised 31 men and 32 women aged 15-45 (mean, 25.5) years. The patients were divided into two groups by subjective scores. Subjective clinical evaluation was performed using 100 mm visual analogue scale (VAS). In the high score group (group H), the VAS score was 80 mm or higher, and in the low score group (

Current development in surgical techniques, graft selection and additional procedures for anterior cruciate ligament injury: a path towards anatomic restoration and improved clinical outcomes-a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been widely used for ACL injury for a long time. However, residual rotational instability and osteoarthritic changes after ACL reconstruction have been identified as problems. Thus, anatomic reconstruction techniques, various types of grafts and additional procedures have been desired to improve the clinical outcomes and knee instability. Although clinical outcomes and knee stability are better than in the past, ipsilateral graft failures still occur in 4-17% and osteoarthritic changes are seen in about 20% of patien

Impact of Patellar Tendinopathy on Isokinetic Knee Strength and Jumps in Professional Basketball Players.

Patellar tendinopathy is characterized by tendon pain which may reduce the level of performance. This study's main aim was to compare isokinetic knee strength and jump performances at the start of the sport season between players with patellar tendinopathy and those without. Secondary aims were to assess the relationship between knee strength and jump function. Sixty-two professional basketball players were enrolled (mean age: 25.0 ± 4.0). All players performed knee isokinetic measurements, single leg countermovement jumps, and one leg hop tests. Correlations between knee strength and jump per

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous needle tenotomy (PNT) alone versus PNT plus platelet-rich plasma injection for the treatment of chronic tendinosis: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Tendinosis is a chronic degenerative condition. Current research suggests both percutaneous needle tenotomy (PNT) and leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma (LR-PRP) may be effective treatments for chronic tendinosis, but no studies have assessed the effectiveness of PNT alone versus PNT with intratendinous LR-PRP for multiple tendon types in a single study. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of PNT versus PNT + LR-PRP to treat chronic tendinosis. STUDY DESIGN: Double-blind, randomized, controlled comparative treatment study. SETTING: Primary academic institution. PARTICIPANTS: A c

Ten-year risk of graft re-rupture and contralateral anterior cruciate ligament injury after primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

IMPORTANCE: The second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury after ACL reconstruction is a well-known complication. Several studies have suggested that the risk of contralateral ACL injury is comparable to that of graft re-rupture. However, this comparison is not well established in previous reviews for studies with minimum five-year follow-up and mean ten-year outcomes. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the ten-year risk of graft re-rupture and contralateral ACL injury after primary ACL reconstruction and to assess the influence of graft type, return-to-

The prevalence of proximal hamstring pathology on MRI in the asymptomatic population.

PURPOSE: Injury to the proximal hamstring complex (PHC) is becoming more frequently diagnosed. Patients attending our tertiary referral centre demonstrated 'pathological changes' in the unaffected normal contralateral PHC on MRI. The prevalence of PHC pathology, however, has not been previously documented in the literature in asymptomatic subjects. It is the hypothesis of this study that the natural history of asymptomatic pathological change on MRI in the PHC is not clear. The aim is to quantify the natural history of PHC degeneration. METHOD: Two hundred and fifty-three consecutive patients

Transtibial versus tibial inlay techniques for posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: long-term follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: The most common technique for posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction is transtibial or tibial inlay. However, few studies have reported long-term outcome comparisons between the 2 techniques. HYPOTHESIS: Tibial inlay PCL reconstruction with patellar tendon autograft will exhibit better clinical and radiographic outcomes than transtibial PCL reconstruction with hamstring autograft. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. METHODS: A total of 66 patients (66 knees) treated with PCL reconstruction for chronic injuries constituted the study cohort. Patients were d

Does the graft source really matter in the outcome of patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction? An evaluation of autograft versus allograft reconstruction results: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Despite the large number of anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions performed each year, there remains a significant controversy regarding the effect of the graft source on the functional outcome of patients. HYPOTHESIS: There is no difference in outcomes of autograft versus allograft anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions. STUDY DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: The authors systematically identified prospective studies (Oxford level of evidence I or II only) that included autograft patients, allograft patients, or both. Objective outcomes that were reported were meta-a

[Acute anterior cruciate ligament repair with combined intra- and extra-articular reconstruction using an iliotibial band with the modified MacIntosh technique: a five-year follow-up study of 50 pivoting sport athletes].

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Comparisons have been often made between bone-tendon-bone plasty and hamstring tendon four-strand plasty. Whether a lateral tenodesis should be associated with the intra-articular reconstruction and the appropriate time between the accident and the repair remain two topics of debate. We present results obtained in a consecutive series of 50 pivoting sport atheletes reviewed retrospectively. These patients had been treated within eight days of trauma with a modified MacIntosh technique using an iliotibial band. This technique enables lateral tenodesis and reconstruction of
