For many infertile women, their inability to fulfill their aspirations and match society's expectations of motherhood may lead to mental illness. They frequently select in vitro fertilization (IVF) to achieve their wish to have children. In vitro fertilization is actually a multi-dimensional stressor. There are numerous psychological methods to assist patients decrease stress, among which mindfulness-based intervention is a prominent one. However, the effectiveness of mindfulness intervention in this group remains debatable. Therefore, our research seeks to evaluate the efficacy of mindfulness

BACKGROUND: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is among the most prevalent symptoms in cancer survivors and often co-occurs with other symptoms. However, little is known about survivors' preferences for treating CRF and associated symptoms.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine cancer survivors' interest in learning skills to manage CRF and associated symptoms and their interest in various nonpharmacologic interventions and modalities. These outcomes were compared between survivors with high and normal fatigue.
METHODS: Breast, gastrointestinal, lung, and prostate cancer survivors (N = 3

OBJECTIVE: We investigated common and dissociable neural and psychological correlates of two widely used meditation-based stress reduction programs.
METHODS: Participants were randomized to the Relaxation Response (RR; n = 18; 56% female) or the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR; n = 16; 56% female) programs. Both programs use a "bodyscan" meditation; however, the RR program explicitly emphasizes physical relaxation during this practice, whereas the MBSR program emphasizes mindful awareness with no explicit relaxation instructions. After the programs, neural activity during the respect

Abused drugs can profoundly alter mental states in ways that may motivate drug use. These effects are usually assessed with self-report, an approach that is vulnerable to biases. Analyzing speech during intoxication may present a more direct, objective measure, offering a unique 'window' into the mind. Here, we employed computational analyses of speech semantic and topological structure after ±3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA; 'ecstasy') and methamphetamine in 13 ecstasy users. In 4 sessions, participants completed a 10-min speech task after MDMA (0.75 and 1.5 mg/kg), methamphetamine (2

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common chronic hormonal condition affecting 8%-13% of women and individuals assigned female at birth. Symptoms may include subfertility, menstrual, skin, and metabolic problems, with long-term health risks including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. PCOS has a significant negative impact on mental health, quality of life, and well-being. We explored proof of concept for a web-based self-management support intervention, "Hope PCOS," designed to reduce anxiety and depression and increase positive well-being for women living with PCOS.

BACKGROUND: Clinical empathy refers to a healthcare professional's ability to understand a patient's experiences and emotions through cognitive and affective perspective taking, and to communicate that understanding through compassionate and appropriate professional behaviors. Aging simulation suits are experiential educational tools designed to replicate the sensory and physical limitations associated with aging. However, evidence regarding their effectiveness in enhancing clinical empathy among active healthcare professionals remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of an ag

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer carries a high psychosocial burden. Tobacco use, the stigma attached to the disease, and coping strategies are thought to interact and shape psychological outcomes, yet they have rarely been examined together. This review aimed to synthesise the evidence on the relationship between tobacco use, lung cancer stigma, and coping, and how these factors interact and influence patients' psychological outcomes.
METHODS: Following the PRISMA 2020 guideline, PubMed/MEDLINE and Dialnet were searched (window 2014-April 2026) for empirical studies conducted in adults with lung canc

BACKGROUND: Medical trainees frequently encounter academic, clinical, and personal setbacks, yet these experiences are often concealed due to fear of judgment and stigma. Providing a structured, psychologically safe space to share failures may help normalize setbacks, reduce shame, and foster a growth mindset. This study explored psychiatric trainees' experiences of the "Exhibition of Failure," a monthly reflective session designed to support open discussion of failure and promote personal and professional development.
METHODS: The Exhibition of Failure was held monthly over one academic year

BACKGROUND: Health care professionals are exposed to high levels of occupational stress, emotional exhaustion, and anxiety-depressive symptoms. Digital interventions using mindfulness- and acceptance-based approaches have shown promising results in improving psychological well-being in this population. The MINDxYOU program is a self-guided digital intervention designed to reduce perceived stress and enhance emotional regulation, resilience, and psychological flexibility. Although its effectiveness has been demonstrated, treatment response may vary substantially between individuals.

BACKGROUND: The burden of social stressors (discrimination, prejudice, violence, and stigmatization) is disproportionately high among LGBTIQA + (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Asexual) individuals. These stressors negatively influence the overall well-being of this population which in turn affects their health-seeking behaviours, including the disclosure of psychosocial concerns to health workers. Peer-led mental health interventions have therefore been identified as a potentially suitable and acceptable approach for this population. This protocol presents the SAATHI

INTRODUCTION: Literature has pointed the need for intervention programs specifically tailored to target the treatment needs of young offenders, as well as the need to test the efficacy of such programs through physiological indexes of emotion regulation (e.g., heart rate variability; HRV), complementing self-reports typically used as outcome measures. The PSYCHOPATHY.COMP is a 20-session individual intervention program based on Compassion Focused Therapy aiming to reduce psychopathic traits and disruptive behavior among young offenders through the development of a compassionate motivation, whi

BACKGROUND: Women anesthesiologists face unique challenges that threaten their well-being and retention. This includes high rates of imposter phenomenon, higher rates of attrition compared to male colleagues, and high rates of suicide. While group coaching is increasingly recognized as a developmental modality to foster growth in complex work environments, gaps remain in understanding how group coaching supports women who face imposter syndrome or how effective this modality is for women anesthesiologists.
AIMS: This study examines the impact of a pilot group coaching intervention that focuse

INTRODUCTION: Internationally, nurses need to learn and develop relational skills that enable them to engage therapeutically with patients. Relational skills are crucial in contexts of socioeconomic deprivation, where patients face high levels of adversity, inequality, and poor health. They are defined as the interpersonal skills needed to bring about clinical change, while also enhancing staff well-being and support. Educators continue to grapple with how best to design and deliver educational programs that enhance relational skills in the nursing workforce. We report on a realist evaluation

BackgroundPrior studies have outlined the roles and functions of palliative care nurses, yet a gap exists in understanding their lived experiences in delivering humanistic care. These nurses establish deep connections with patients and families, encountering emotional distress while witnessing their suffering. This emotional strain frequently leads to compassion fatigue and burnout. The purpose of this study was to explore humanistic nursing practices and the dilemmas faced by palliative care nurses in providing humanistic care.MethodsA descriptive phenomenological approach was employed. PURPOSE: Resilience, the ability to maintain or restore baseline function after a stressor, remains unexplored in patients with bladder cancer. Our objective was to demonstrate the feasibility of prospectively characterizing baseline resilience, related psychological resources, and frailty in patients with bladder cancer and evaluate associations with quality-of-life and mental health outcomes over time.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We enrolled patients with bladder cancer (N = 67, September 2020-July 2021) into a prospective, observational, cohort study. At intake, patients completed validated ass

BACKGROUND: Survivors of lung cancer and their partners often have complex unresolved physical, psychosocial, and behavioral needs that can negatively affect the survivors' and partners' well-being. This systematic review aimed to (1) examine the content and delivery of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) and (2) summarize and synthesize the current evidence for effectiveness of MBIs targeting survivors of lung cancer and/or one selected partner (dyads).
METHOD: Six databases were searched for interventional studies published in English between 1980 and June 2020 using three terms (lung ne

OBJECTIVE: Chronic inflammation is associated with increased morbidity and mortality for people with HIV (PWH). Psychological stress is an important contributor to this chronic inflammation. We hypothesized that a cognitively based compassion training (CBCT) approach could reduce inflammation and psychological stress in immune nonresponder PWH.
DESIGN: An attention-placebo randomized controlled trial design to evaluate the acceptability of CBCT among PWH and its effects on key aspects of stress and immune function compared with an active-attention control group (NCT02395289).
