Blended Phenotype Involving FBN1 and Novel PIGL Variants of Uncertain Significance: A Prenatal Case Report.

Genetic disorders presenting during the prenatal period are often complex, with overlapping phenotypes that pose significant diagnostic challenges. The increasing use of advanced fetal imaging modalities such as targeted imaging for fetal anomalies and high-resolution ultrasonography has enabled early identification of structural anomalies suggestive of syndromic conditions. However, correlating radiological findings with underlying genetic alterations remains difficult, particularly when variants of uncertain significance (VUSs) are detected. A VUS classification means that there is insuffici

The reliability and variability of SN and PFH reference planes in cephalometric diagnosis and therapeutic planning of dentomaxillofacial malformations.

Various interpretations of clinical and cephalometric data lead to different diagnostic and surgical planning in the study of dentoskeletal malformations. Many authors have identified this discrepancy as an incorrect positioning between the skeletal structures and the Frankfurt plane (PFH)--a plane that is used routinely for the sagittal measurement of the upper and lower jaw. The aim of this study was to establish a control method to verify the correct positioning of the sella-nasion point plane (SN) and the PFH. To find a reference plane, the authors concentrated their attention on measuring

The accuracy of two-dimensional planning for routine orthognathic surgery.

Two-dimensional cephalometric planning software should be helpful for prediction of hard tissue outcome after bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) or bimaxillary osteotomy, but transferring two-dimensional data to three-dimensions (including mock operation and surgery) may result in errors. The objective of this retrospective study was to analyze deviations between predicted results and postoperative outcome using cephalometric analyses, and to evaluate this procedure for daily use. Fifty-four subjects (mean (SD) age 26 (8) years) had a BSSRO (n=21) alone or in combination with Le

3D evaluation of postoperative swelling using two different cooling methods following orthognathic surgery: a randomised observer blind prospective pilot study.

Orthognathic surgery is associated with side effects including severe postoperative swelling, pain, neurological dysfunction and trismus. The beneficial effects of localised cold treatment on postoperative swelling have been described. Topographical considerations make it difficult to quantify facial swelling. A new and promising method to measure facial swelling seems to be optical face scanning. This study aimed to evaluate the 3D optical scanner to measure soft tissue swelling following orthognathic surgery. Postoperative swelling was treated either with conventional cooling by cold packs o

Mandibulo-facial dysostosis: comparison study of a neonate with mandibulo-facial dysostosis and a normal neonate.

Mandibulo-facial dysostosis (MFD) is a malformative syndrome with autosomal dominant transmission and variable expressivity that mainly affects derivatives of the first and second branchial arches. The subsurface anatomy of this condition is still partly unexplored since there have been only four reported dissections of MFD. A detailed dissection of the head and neck of a neonate with MFD is described and compared with a normal neonate. Theories of the pathogenesis are discussed on the basis of these observations.
