This French National Diagnostic and Care Protocol (NDPC) includes both pediatric and adult patients with non-infectious chronic uveitis (NICU) or non-infectious recurrent uveitis (NIRU). NICU is defined as uveitis that persists for at least 3 months or with frequent relapses occurring less than 3 months after cessation of treatment. NIRU is repeated episodes of uveitis separated by periods of inactivity of at least 3 months in the absence of treatment. Some of these NICU and NIRU are isolated. Others are associated with diseases that may affect various organs, such as uveitis associated with c

PURPOSE: Mitogen-activates protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitors, particularly MEK inhibitors, have shifted the treatment paradigm for metastatic BRAF-mutant cutaneous melanoma; however, oncologists, ophthalmologists, and patients have noticed different toxicities of variable importance. This review aims to provide an update of the ocular adverse events (OAEs), especially retinal toxicity, associated with the use of MEK inhibitors.
METHODS: We conducted a scientific literature search using the PubMed database up to July 2018 with the terms "MEK inhibitors" with a "review" filter and "MEK inhibitor

Ocular involvement in sarcoidosis is present in up to one third of patients and is frequently manifested before the underlying systemic disease has been diagnosed. With a view to the therapeutic consequences an early diagnosis of the underlying disease is advantageous. In cases of visual loss early diagnostic measures include invasive procedures, such as ultrasound-guided bronchoalveolar lavage and transbronchial biopsy, if nodular conjunctival or cutaneous manifestations which would confirm the diagnosis are not present. Sufficiently sensitive biomarkers of disease activity have not yet been

BACKGROUND: Uveitis is an autoimmune disease of the eye that refers to any of a number of intraocular inflammatory conditions. Because it is a rare disease, uveitis is often overlooked, and the possible associations between uveitis and extra-ocular disease manifestations are not well known. The aim of this study was to characterize uveitis in a large sample of patients and to evaluate the relationship between uveitis and systemic diseases.
METHODS: The present study is a cross-sectional study of a cohort of patients with uveitis. Records from consecutive uveitis patients who were seen by the

BACKGROUND: The distribution of uveitis varies in different parts of the world, which is attributed to geographic, alimentary or genetic factors. Epidemiological studies in uveitis may be extremely important in an effort to better understand the etiology of the disease and the classification of its subtypes. The purpose of this study was to determine the profile and characteristics of endogenous uveitis in southern Taiwan.
METHODS: Retrospective chart review ofthe patients diagnosed and treated as endogenous uveitis in Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital from January 1991 to December 2000 was

Ocular tuberculosis (TB) presents with diverse clinical manifestations and remains a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, particularly in TB-endemic regions. In addition, antitubercular therapy (ATT), especially ethambutol and linezolid, may contribute to treatment-related optic neuropathy and visual morbidity. This case series aimed to describe the clinical manifestations of presumed ocular TB and to assess the burden of ATT-induced optic neuropathy during the study duration. Diagnosis was based on clinical features, tuberculin skin test (Mantoux test) or interferon-gamma release assay (e.g.

OBJECTIVES: Acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinopathy (ASPPC) is traditionally viewed as a uniform presentation of syphilitic posterior uveitis, though recent evidence suggests broader phenotypic variability. This study aimed to characterise ASPPC heterogeneity using multimodal imaging (MMI).
METHODS: Single-centre retrospective cohort study on patients presenting with syphilitic posterior uveitis or panuveitis. MMI included fundus autofluorescence (FAF), fluorescein angiography (FA), indocyanine green angiography (ICGA), and optical coherence tomography (OCT). Cases were classifie

INTRODUCTION: Blau syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant condition resulting from mutations in the Nucleotide Oligomerization Domain of 2 ;(NOD2) gene. The disease typically presents in early childhood with a triad of arthritis, dermatitis, and uveitis. In this report, we describe retinal vasculitis as a rare phenotype in a family affected by Blau syndrome.
METHODS: Retrospective case series of 3 family members with Blau Syndrome presenting with bilateral retinal vasculitis. The clinical presentation, systemic features, and imaging findings were reviewed.
RESULTS: Case I, a 3-year-old boy wi

The 2013-2016 Western African outbreak of the Ebola virus disease (EVD), the largest recorded outbreak since the discovery of Ebola virus (EBOV) in 1976, destabilized local health systems and left thousands of survivors at risk for post-acute sequelae, including vision-threatening uveitis. In an EVD survivor with severe panuveitis, the detection of persistent EBOV in the aqueous humor, long after clearance of acute viremia, focused clinical and research attention on the host-EBOV interaction in the unique terrain of ocular immune-privilege. Despite the recognition that uveitis is common and co
