Recently, gram-negative bacteria isolated from a variety of marine mammals have been identified as Brucella species by conventional phenotypic analysis. This study found the 16S rRNA gene from one representative isolate was identical to the homologous sequences of Brucella abortus, B. melitensis, B. canis, and B. suis. IS711-based DNA fingerprinting of 23 isolates from marine mammals showed all the isolates differed from the classical Brucella species. In general, fingerprint patterns grouped by host species. The data suggest that the marine mammal isolates are distinct types of Brucella and n

Background Cephalometric norms are commonly used in orthodontic practice and research for guidance in diagnosis and treatment planning. They are related to race and ethnicity, thus making classical norms not applicable to all populations. Objectives The purpose of this study was to: present the cephalometric hard (HT) and soft tissue (ST) norms for adults with well-balanced faces and normal occlusion and evaluate the presence of sexual dimorphism within these measurements. Material and methods The sample consisted of pre-treatment cephalograms of 165 adult Lebanese subjects (59 males and 106 f

BACKGROUND: Mandibular retraction is the main etiological mechanism of class II malocclusion in China and the subsequent distal molar relationship can cause functional discomfort in mastication, breathing and the temporomandibular joint. The use of mandibular advancement (MA) devices has recently emerged as an adolescent mandibular retraction treatment; however, current studies regarding the effect thereof are relatively few, and there is lack of sufficient clinical support.
AIM: To investigate the clinical effect of invisalign MA on the treatment of mandibular retraction in adolescents.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior open bite malocclusion can be treated nonsurgically using fixed appliances, clear aligners, or temporary anchorage devices (TADs). Proponents of clear aligners and TADs often attribute bite closure to molar intrusion and counterclockwise rotation of the mandibular plane. These changes may be supported by superimpositions. However, the process of creating a superimposition is subjective and may be influenced by practitioner bias.
METHODS: The initial and final lateral cephalograms from 30 adult anterior patients with open bite were used in this study. Ten patients were t
