Aberrant internal carotid artery (ICA) in the middle ear is a rare, dangerous vascular anomaly and conservative follow-up was usually adopted in most reported cases. Here we report the case of an 8-year-old girl with symptoms of objective pulsatile tinnitus and conductive hearing loss in the right ear. Otoscopic examination, computed tomography, and conventional angiography were performed. OBJECTIVES: Individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU) can exhibit deficits in executive functions, intelligence, attention, visual-spatial processing abilities, and efficiency stemming presumably from deficient neurotransmitter synthesis, even when the disorder is diagnosed and treated early. Basic audiological and electrophysiological evaluations were used to examine the peripheral and central auditory pathways of children with early-treated PKU, who followed adequate versus inadequate diets. BACKGROUND: The outcomes of treatment of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) are disappointing and uncertain, especially in developing countries. Because CSOM is the commonest cause of hearing impairment in children in these countries, an effective method of management that can be implemented on a wide scale is needed. We report a randomised, controlled trial of treatment of CSOM among children in Kenya; unaffected schoolchildren were taught to administer the interventions.
METHODS: We enrolled 524 children with CSOM, aged 5-15 years, from 145 primary schools in Kiambu district of Kenya.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Only a few reports describe the outcomes following endoscopic ear surgery (EES) in children for chronic ear disease. We differentiate between transcanal endoscopic ear surgery (TEES), where the case is performed with only endoscopic visualization, from non-TEES, where the endoscope is not used at all or used as an adjunct to the microscope. We hypothesize that EES is an effective approach to manage middle ear pathology using a transcanal approach in most cases, and can be incorporated into a pediatric otology practice with a neutral or positive effect on outcomes. Abnormalities of the ear and hearing are well recognized in Turner's syndrome (TS), which is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities. Presented here are the preliminary data from a UK study of the audiological features of 113 women over the age of 16 years with TS. Seventeen per cent had normal hearing. 19% had conductive or mixed loss, and 47% had sensorineural hearing loss associated with the TS. The results are discussed with reference to previously published studies and to the lack of consensus on comparative definitional terms in audiology.

CONCLUSION: The singular neurectomy as described by Gacek in 1974 is an efficient procedure to control symptoms in case of intractable benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), with an acceptable risk of postoperative sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). We postulate that this complication may not be a direct consequence of the surgical procedure but rather may be consecutive to the reactivation of the biological phenomenon that caused the BPPV.
